The Real Reasons why Images from Space Look Fake.

  • Dear World,
It is easy to tell if something looks fake, isn´t it? Our eyes are very good in noticing if something does not look right. But what makes something look fake anyway? Sometimes it is hard to tell.
Like professional magicians are best in debunking tricksters, people who create artificial images know best how to spot fake images. But they also realize that a fake looking image can be very real, if there is just no other way it could look like.

Well, morn's English is far from idiomatic. For instance, no native speaker would say "what are the features to make you say" ("features that make you" would be the standard locution). As far as enjoyment of his excellent videos goes, it does not matter at all - we understand what he is trying to say, but if you wish to learn idiomatic English, you do need to focus on native speakers.
I am responding because you are not the first speaker of a slavic language to prefer poor English over the real thing. I do understand the sentiment - the rhythms and turns of phrase may seem more familiar or accessible. But how would you feel if I preferred defective Russian over true Russian?

    • @Ezullof
      @Ezullof 3 роки тому +5

People say dumb things because it makes them feel smart, and they often feel like they become part of a community by doing so. They don't care about the real world or knowledge, they only care about themselves.
And really, quite often it's actually hard to blame them, because too many people are treated like shit, expected to know stuff without taking the time to learn them. If you aren't raised in a safe environment, if you aren't taught a sense of the importance of scientific method and critical judgment, those are things that are extremely hard to acquire.
If we treat people better (so they don't struggle to survive or to form their opinions without being hurt), if knowledge and experimentation are easily accessible (that means not being told "you're not very smart and you can't handle complex things"), then dumb people will disappear.

    • @morn1415

I think it is because of being interconnected. Any person who has any crazy idea on the planet will find the few others who have the same. The more people there are celebrating this wrong idea, the more people will be convinced there is something to it. That´s why it is important to learn how to evaluate information. Should be an important part of education. Not specific information. Just how to think in a rational way. Children are natural scientists, but often the environment makes them ignorant.

    Good video.
But, I think there is another aspect to this and that is a person's understanding of the physical world and what they are looking at in an image. Photos of celestial objects and videos of activities on the ISS or other spacecraft have never looked fake to me because I understood what I was looking at and why it looked the way it did, but, CGI, even as good as it is today, still looks fake to me to at least some degree. For the most part I can ignore it and enjoy the movie or TV show, but, the second the thought that it's CGI enters my head I have to pause and get that thought out my head or I won't be able to continue watching.

Excellent run down and visuals. I think it is a feature of flat eartthers and science-deniers that they try to relate everything to their own little parochial space. So, if it's unfamiliar to their everyday experience it is by definition "fake". The simplistic term for it is "small minded". They can't handle the size, complexity and beauty of the universe sometimes because it conflicts with their religious belief/teachings and being presented with it makes them feel small and insignificant. I feel sorry for them - some of the time - when I'm not laughing at them! Life is cruel.

One thing I found disappointing about space images of Earth was that 99.999% of them always show Earth with the Sinai peninsula . . as if no other part of Earth was presentable. Also, why no shots of earth from way, way out where, surely, there are satellites with cameras. How about a half lit Earth with half lit moon in same shot. Etc. There is a lot of competition for fame and money. Scientific popularization is still often perceived as a secondary goal at best, but more usually as a waste of time and ressource for professors who already struggle to do science, teach science and have a life.

Their motto is "Complain instead of explain, distract and dislike." If they are unable to understand explanations (especially as complicated as here), let them do the explanation.
In my video "Why flat earth failed" I showed a simple thing observable in the sky for everybody.
      ua-cam.com/video/ZMtx5jVLUaU/v-deo.html
Two celestial poles. One visible from north of the equator, one visible from south of the equator. One rotating clockwise, one counter clockwise. On the flat earth the equator is just an arbitrary circle without meaning. I requested to have that explained with the flat earth model.
Nobody could or even tried in 15000 comments.
Make them aware that the flat earth model does not work by never stopping asking them. Don´t let yourself be diverted with distraction techniques. Flat earth is not able to explain the real world. As simple as that.

@Lacey Rowe Then you believe in the "fact" that nothing can be believed. This is really sad because it means that no one will ever be able to help you. If I am wrong about something, it is always possible to convince me with a better argument or derivation. But you will never be able to believe anything other than nothing, because something has deprived you of the opportunity to argue out of anything other than uncertainty.

    • @kalziferk9932
      @kalziferk9932 3 роки тому

@Lacey Rowe You can't even measure your range of vision with your eyes. Your hearing spectrum with your ears. Your sensitivity with your hands and smell and taste are the most subjective of all.
In your science there is no knowledge that you can share with others, because whether other people perceive the same thing as I do, I cannot measure with my senses. The fact that there is a tree in front of my house would only be proven when everyone has seen it and itentified it as a tree. Whether everyone understands the same thing about a tree cannot be verified.
Is a 5 cm line, because I draw with a ruler, only 5 cm long for me? Or does it even have a defined length because I used something other than my eyes.
To argue in your favor: For you, the human senses are your religion and you give them godlike power that they don't even have.
A pig has 5 times more taste buds than a human. A bat can hear ultrasound. Most insects can see UV light and polarized light and 'feel' magnetic field lines. A dog can smell 100 times better. The list goes on and on. Do these beings understand more about the world than we do? No. Why not? Perhaps because there are more ways of explaining reality than through the primary faculties of the senses. I can't see the 1 + 1 = 2 either. I can understand it though. And if I could see it, I could understand it without having to see it.
A few weeks ago I lost my sense of smell for a few days. However, the milk in my fridge was spoiled even though I couldn't smell it ... Your God let me down at this point. It's a shame I couldn't see the microorganisms in my milk. They are just too small, but they exist.

These images look fine, the issue is w the absence of hundreds of shaky videos made by astronauts showing the earth and sun and moon - like “Hi honey, I miss you. Daddy will be back soon. Look at this view.” It’s the dog that didn’t bark. The absence of these videos about space is as suspicious as a lack of videos of tourists that just came back from the Grand Canyon. Also notice you have never seen any space debris (of which they always show tons of in simulated videos) in any of the space walk or space station or launch videos you’ve ever seen. There are continuity problems that are less sophisticated than the lighting of a 3D object in a 2D image.

The blue pill is totally fine but if you’re really gonna ask the tough questions, you gotta look at the big picture. Ignore the conspiracy theories and debunking their logical fallacies. It’s endless and fruitless. You gotta ask the good questions yourself.

@@FRNKNSTNmusic Most conspiracy theories originate from a lack of logical deduction and wanting to look at the "big picture" (which is mostly a preconception).
Conspiracy theories are is born here.
After a while new information is only viewed at in the framework of the conspiracy.
In principle these are valid questions you asked. So if you care what is true you have to think. That´s the cumbersome task, there is no way around that.
Lets look at what you miss:
“Hi honey, I miss you. Daddy will be back soon. Look at this view.”
      Questions to ask:
      - Is there cellphone reception in the ISS?
      - If these videos exist (though direct channels by the space agency) whom are they directed at? Is there a reason they are private?
      - There are lots of shaky video recordings from the ISS and the Apollo program, but hardly a view outside, because there are hardly windows, is there a reason?
      - How much time do Astronauts have anyway?
I conclude the question section with this nice image of somebody posing Star Trek style in front of the cupola, a window that cost 20 million Euros.
      twitter.com/esa/status/773816518895398913/photo/1
While looking at the big picture, people forget to look at other pictures.
Nobody wants to investigate evidence against their case.

There is another reason images from space are often too perfect. They are selected of course for the nice ones (Like everybody does for Instagram...).
But huge databases exist. I looked through 15000 once for bad ones. :)

I don't understand the comparison? Majority of humans use senses as tools to determine what's reality right? So if Majority of humans can only prove that planets are real by sight and the rest is left to word of mouth how can you claim it to be real? So if i seen a tree from 1,000,000 miles away is it a possibility it might just be a bush? So if trees are real then all mythical trees, fictional trees in entertainment, and stories of trees are all real? So if a grandfather tell his son stay away from the woods there are walking killer trees in there and the son grows up and tells you did you know there are killer trees? So because trees are real thats proves killer walking trees are real? It seems like both sides have many of the same questions memorized. No im not a flat earther.

    • @morn1415
      @morn1415  3 роки тому +1

@@atroxarmy870 What makes people think space is fake? Good question. To my experience there are lots of factors:
      - Ignorance
      - Lack of education
      - Lazyness in reseaching information
      - Inability of combining information
      But the most important factor:
      - Tribalism in connection with Social Media
      (Recent Phenomenon)
If somebody has a random belief, through modern networks he can find easily all other people on the planet having the same belief. The more people belive things, the more people will think there is something to it. People want to belong to a group and rarely just care about what is true.
Example: Somebody believes in Fairies. When checking online, he will easily find all people believing in Fairies. They will talk, come together and confirm each other. Other people will see this and think there must be something to it and also become Fairy believers. So the community grows.
While it is impossible to check if Fairies exist, it is easy to check if space is fake.
But some people ignore this information because they are not satisfied with their life and are looking for somebody to blame. So they say the government is lying and taking their money.
The people in power on the other hand (who are really lying) are very happy about people thinking space is fake, because these are the people having no idea what is going on and where their money really goes.
      That´s the short version. :)

it's all composite images stitched together, and probably touched up a little.
I don't know why it's impossible to just photograph an entire planet with a single shot, and not mash together other photos into it.
if the planet is to big to photograph then take the picture from farther away.

You should NOT lump all "conspiracy theorists" into one group. Although I'm not one who thinks the pictures are fake at all, I do understand. However, you decided to go the low road and played out the simplest strawman. Now you conflate the least intelligent thoughts like planets being fake, with what people really talk about. Which is how fake and over-processed deep sky images are. There is no standard for colors and contrast. It becomes fanciful art with no explanation, often times. This is what people call fake. I guess anyone with any question at all....it's just easier to lump them all together. If I believe there is a nefarious group that caused a particular unnatural catastrophe then I guess that means I believe Bigfoot did it? You stereotyped very hard here.
BTW - We are tiny, but not insignificant. We may not be special. But we might be. Some of your videos have a strain of nihilism in it. Whether overused cliche or trying to impart your own philosophy, it just doesn't fit anymore. As an agnostic I find atheists to be just about as arrogant as any theist.
    Other than that....absolutely great work.
