10th International Mariachi Women's Festival

The Mariachi Women's Foundation presented the 10th International Mariachi Women's Festival on September 23, 2023. Featured performers included mariachi and jarocho harpist, Natsumi Imamura, from Tokyo, Japan accompanied by Grupo Bella, Mariachi Innovación Mexicana from Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico, Mariachi Rosas Divinas from Dallas, Texas and headliners, two-time Grammy winning Mariachi Divas. The festival was all about "Canciones del Corazon" or songs of the heart. Six Los Angeles Unified School District mariachi programs were key audience members at the festival. Students, families and community members entered the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse to immerse themselves in the artistic performances of professional all-female mariachi groups. The event was hosted by Claudia Garcia, Composer and Founder of Harvard University's Mariachi Veritas. A pre-concert workshop was held earlier in the year for the LAUSD students. This festival was made possible primarily through a California Arts Council - Arts Education - Exposure grant. Additional support was provided by the Eastside Arts Initiative and National Endowment for the Arts.
