On September 23, 1998, the game was released for the Sony PlayStation under the Greatest Hits banner as The Lost World: Jurassic Park - Special Edition. Unlike most Greatest Hits releases, this was not a straight repackaging of the original game. Instead, Special Edition features several modifications to the gameplay designed to address concerns raised by critics on the game's initial release. Several of the game's mechanics that were modified included the difficulty level with mid level checkpoints, stronger player characters, and the inclusion of level select codes in the manual. Special Edition also features an additional level that allows players to play as the T. rex much earlier than before. (Source: Wikipedia)

My first ever PS game, this same special edition. My old man bought me and my kid brother the ps1 back in 98' this was the first game we played. Such good memories with my pa.

Despite being so much linear, the game is well made. The soundtrack is also a masterpiece
This game was so much fun! but the thing that irks me so much is that you gotta start all over again once you run out of lives.

The soundtrack in this game will always be my favorite aspect.
I remember playing this as a kid, was insanely difficult for me even on easy mode, so eventually I gave up. Wonder if I could beat this game now.

What's being played in the video is the special edition, which I believe had improved mechanics. I'm sure it's still plenty hard, but the controls were absolute garbage in the original.
It has noticeably less input lag and you don't take as brutal an amount of damage with each hit, but it's still a bit janky and you still get blocked every 2 steps by anything in front of you (and behind you as T-Rex).
Amazing that Michael Giacchino went from scoring a Jurassic Park game to scoring the Jurassic World movies
Apparently Spielberg wanted to meet him after watching a demo of the game, and called him a 'young John Williams' which is a pretty wicked compliment.
Most frustrating things in no particular order ;-
- Dimorphodons when you're human hunter
- Every level when you're Compy
- Humans when you're T-rex
- Geothermal level when you're human hunter
- Forest burning levels as raptor
- DNA in raptor level 1
- Starting over from the beginning if you run out of lives or don't memorise the password for the bext character.
Nonetheless, my favourite game as a kid.
The PS loading screen and sounds, ah so good to hear again.

I love how universal this game was for us as kids. Like, most of us dont even remember how we got it, it just appeared in our home and left a permanent memory in our brain lol
I rented it from the video store and my uncle copied it to a disc for me. I loved my modded ps1.
I remember how it appeared in my home. Mom bought it for me in april 97 at Moscow bazaar called Mitino Tech Market

This game.was so awesome as a kid. The soundtrack is magical, and all the cutscenes were great and really added to the atmosphere. It was just so freaking hard. I loved the raptor levels but could barely beat the compy levels to get to them lol

I used to love this game. The raptor levels were the best, unlike the human levels (which were just boring) and the t-rex level (which was fun at parts but the raptors meant I never got far...)

The designers who worked for DreamWorks Interactive and Appalossa Interactive should've also given the Velociraptors the skin patterns that were given to the female Velociraptors of the first film too.
I'd like to see the people who work for Frontier Developments remake this game with the more realistic 3D models and backgrounds that were used for Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Evolution 2.

Iirc, there's five "chapters", each comprising of several levels. The three dinosaur chapters, you can play as a Compy, a Raptor and the iconic T-rex (which was surprisingly hard to play, due to the raptor enemies), but there's two chapters where you play as humans. Those are, without a doubt, the worst chapters.
I know what I just saw with my own eyes but I refuse to believe that anyone has ever finished this game.

I love that the whole game is just you avoiding and preventing the other dinosaurs from eating your ass, and once you outmaneuver them you murder them and then proceed to eat out their asses to regain HP. Like that T-Rex ate 62 velociraptors, that’s gotta be at least 62 daily servings of raptor. And all the velociraptors were jumping on his butt trying to take a bite out of his asshole the entire time
He is getting healed when he eats, is there a button for that? I just die first level every time, no health regeneration at all

What does the eye represent?
I don't remember exactly, but I think it was like a power meter type deal? Like, the redder it got, the more damage you'd do.

@@charondusk5608 yep, that was it. If you grab the talon item, you get a temporary damage buff. The eye goes red and the pupil is narrow, but the color slowly shifts back to green and pupil widens. The buff is over once it gets back to its default appearance.

They give you a code at the end of the chapters so that you can skip them when you play again, but that's the closest thing to a "save" it has. I remember several PS1 games like that. Dunno why, since the system had memory cards 🤷

this fucking game. luckily i had the manual with the codes to skip to the later parts, because the compsognatus platforming sections SUCK.

Game was a bit annoying on release lol looks easy but definitely was a bit difficult. It wasn't awful and had good graphics but def was outshined by many games that released alongside it.
