The way that Doughty performed Screenwriter's Blues tho 😳….SO HOT! Speaking to and touching the audience hands! MY GOD. That man! 😍 Love that performance ❤️🔥🔥
I partied in the 80's with boys who knew them from college. We drank our do, and my friend said. "i have friends playing CBGB's tonight. It was during a snow storm in NYC, some would call "Blizzard! We saw them at CBGB's, partied after in the East Village! It may have been their first show at cbgb's , The CB's gig was awesome!
Wow! This has to be the best recording of them that I have ever seen and heard. I was a huge fan and seen all 3 album tours. Thank you so much for sharing this!
I was definitely at this show. It's great to be brought back to that time and place. Mpls listeners were so weirdly aligned with Doughty & Co. Mary Lucia brought them out, of course, but all us young Minneapolitans were also very down for it. Thanks to the editing crew of this one. I'd prefer hearing Mark De Gli Antoni more present in the mix but sometimes you get what you get!
How did I miss this video!? I thought there were no professionally shot full performances of SC, and they even played Don't Go Wreck The Car!!!! What a jackpot this find is. Thank you so much!
@@pocketcrocodile763 i know bro . I had the blessing to live 70 Miles maximum from the best Concert Halls in Belgium or summer alternative festivals ( and there are so many in this small country ) to see them anytime they would play live . They were having so much fun with the public - so each time they would come , the hall was fully heated before they even started the first song . What a decade of incredible alternative bands the 90's was . Its unfortunate that after their 3D album + tours , they were done . Mr Daughty would than play solo ...thats how i could see him in 2,000 + The Tindersticks + the Walkabouts in the same day .
@@BlueHopi144 Sounds incredible! There is a video on Doughtys UA-cam page where he and Steinberg play couple of SC tunes. And it was this year! It was really nice to see
Such an underrated band and so friggin original. I know this phrase gets tossed around a lot BUT these WERE ahead of their time and it's a damn crying shame that they broke up. I wish I had a time machine to go back to the late 90's and see them all over again but I can't, and that sucks so I'm trying to quench my thirst by watching UA-cam videos. THANK YOU for uploading a good quality concert of SC. Seriously, thanks man
The refrain of "don't go wreck the car" which got repurposed to "Don't fall through the stars" on "Grey Ghost" is what Mike is telling himself nodding out on a dock very high on heroin looking at the reflection of the sky in the water, thinking he'll drown if he falls in. Even in the original, getting lost in the parking lot and slipping the knot are reference to his habit. Soooo much of Soul Coughings lyrics are about drugs if you understand the slang, which he sometimes creates on the spot. "Gotta bump around for a while" "White girl" "I'm gonna give you most of mine. I'm gonna give it if I don't slip you. " If you never realized this go back and listen with that POV.

What did the guy do that inspired Mike to ask the crowd to kick his ass after "Lazybones" (~43:40)? I must have missed something. I know people were throwing popcorn or something earlier in the show, but I missed whatever really pissed him off.
looks like someone might have thrown something on stage at him but missed. right before he calls him out he picks something up and throws it behind him. probably some trash or something
Why does the soul coughing at the Quaker goes deaf show have the comments turned off and another thing whenever I swipe down to scroll through my home screen while the video is playing it says you can’t do that with kid’s content
U guys are lucky to see them back . Hopefully , they come back to Europe as well . Belgium is waiting for them anytime . Thats where i saw them so many times back in their super prime years .

That’s because Mike f’ed a model too
Soft serve and lazybones are two of the most beautiful written songs in the 90's

The keyboardist and the rest of the band are so underestimated!

Great footage!!! I have watched this a hundred times over already!!!!
Me too!!! 🤣 I’ve rewatched the screenwriter’s blues 10 times a day
YOU'RE A HERO! Best quality recording of soul coughing live and there's not a whole lot to compare to. Thank you so much for sharing.
yes it is the best quality of the live shows. I just found it. converting RIGHT NOW!!!!
Still can’t hear the bass. Hope they paid him half for half the volume he puts out!

Saw those guys 4 times at least in their prime + Daughty in 2,000 back in Belgium . Each show was Epic & unique .

This is the only time i’ve seen Mike and Yuval interact on stage, or really at all. What a shame.
I forgot how incredible SC are in concert
