Problem with your example is women don’t even have an avenue to earn high salaries at the highest level because WNBA is the biggest stage for them but the pay is not even $100k. Men at least can give it a shot and dedicate their life to their craft so they can become a millionaire. I’m sure the mediocre pay made a lot women not want to pursue a career even if they’re capable of doing so because they need to prioritize their time and energy towards earning good money.
The WNBA season is only four months long. $76,500 for only four months work is a dream job for most Americans.

Didn’t even know that their season was shorter. In that case it’s decent pay but I believe the higher pay would incentivize women to compete harder. When the reward is higher people compete harder. If women made $1M in max salary then their players will compete harder to cement their talent as a max contract caliber talent. Otherwise if the pay between min to max is too low they won’t compete that hard

Last year WNBA brought in $200 Million. The NBA brought in just over $10 Billion… I guess I’m missing something…
I think they a still misleading. 200 million doesn’t pay all their bills with out the nba subsidising. To really keep the lights on without the nba these girls would be paying 70k year to play.
The WNBA never brought in $200 million, that is apparently the prediction for next year, but it smells like baloney to me (like the supposed $1 billion valuation of the league suggested by the recent capital raise of $75 million). Some sources claim that the NBA brought in $102 million last year but most sources cite only $60 million, I have not seen any credible sources.
Whatever the real figures, $200 million would be at least a 100% increase in revenue that I doubt has ever been accomplished by any professional league. Perhaps some of that increase is already in the bank if they have sold TV rights, I really do not care enough to check.

If you want all WNBA players to earn more then all those women who are complaining should start showing up to WNBA games and encouraging all their family and friends to show up as well. Sports salaries are attendance driven. More people showing up means higher salary. Look at the Oakland A's. One of the lowest attendance in baseball. Are the players making big bucks compared to other teams.
The WNBA is subsidized by the NBA. Secondly, if women could make it to the NBA they would be paid just like other players. Different league different pay.
Ladies let me break this down for you. You're paid what you're worth. The viewership for the WNBA is exponentially less than it is for the NBA and the salaries of the players reflect this. Men should not be forced to watch the WNBA. If you want player salaries to increase then women need to step up and start tuning into the WNBA games. Increased viewership = increased revenue = increased player salaries. That's how this all works in the real world....
They always want to place a higher value on themselves than what they are worth, if the NBA generated less money than the WNBA and the men said there is a pay gap they would be told that they are paid what they are worth and the media would not make an issue out of it. That's an incredible salary for playing in a league that nobody watches. The reality is that professional adult womens basketball should be a weekend hobby league where they play for fun considering the WNBA can't turn a profit, thankfully the NBA subsidizes their pay for them but instead of being grateful for that kind gesture some of them whine and complain they deserve more pay(to be fair I have yet to hear Caitlin complain about her salary so this is not directed at her)

There is a REVENUE gap - there is an attendance GAP and there is a pay gap between female athletes and female reality TV celebs.

Haven't we heard this argument time and time again. Have you seen any WNBA games? The performance level is just plain embarrassing. Playing in basically empty stadiums. They don't produce any revenue. Nobody can even name 5 players from the league.
338K in 4 years is 120K more than the average American will make in that same time. Second, it would take me 12 years to make that equal amount. Also, the WNBA does not make a profit, it is run at a loss by the NBA.

Stop comparing the men. It's not inequality. The NBA has been around for over 70 years. Guys were taking the bus and fighting Wars while playing basketball. Women need to support the women's games, then the money will come. No women are complaining about baseball, hockey or NFL salaries because those sports won't even start a league for women. The NBA didn't have to even start a league for women. You're not going to force them to pay more when no women attend the games. Hopefully it changes but stop blaming the men's game. It took decades for the men to make this money. Go attack the other major sports as well.

Christine Brennan said something that i agree with and also disagree with. When talking about wnba players earning more money, she is correct that the way that happens is by players like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and others bringing more eyes to the game which in turn will bring more fans and more revenue so that players can be paid more. I disagree that wnba players have been underpaid. They have been paid based on the revenue the wnba generates each year. 200 million a year split among not only players but coaches, general managers, trainers, stadium expenses, employees, etc. That's really not a lot of money, especially when the nba is subsidizing the wnba 10 million every season

There's no new information to share. The salary gap isn't an issue here. She's a WNBA player, not in the NBA, so her earnings should be compared within the WNBA. In essence, there's nothing of note to discuss. Move on. Also, the columnist they brought in, who initially raised concerns about unequal pay, paradoxically argues for the low salaries, stating, "It's all about capitalism. For a generation, people haven't been buying tickets, WATCHED or bought WNBA products advertised on TV." Exactly! This is why their salaries are low-it's not about equal pay!

Her WNBA contract is actually similar to Michael Jordan initial contract with the Bulls, he was making like 40 million a year in endorsements and wasn't even the highest paid player on his own team. Those TV deals mean everything for players salaries.

Well there are pay gaps for NBA players and other basketball players who plays overseas such as in Europe or in Aia, or even those playing in the G League. No one is complaining about how the NBA makes many times the salary of those players. They are all basketball players are they not?

I side with the female basketball players on this. They definitely should get a lot less than male athletes but the salaries need to be $150k minimum and max salaries as $1M. Otherwise the competition level will remain trash. If they bring more attractive salaries then more women will want to compete. Same way people become doctors and go through 10 years of medical school/college to earn $300-600k. If they made $75k too nobody in their right mind would want to become doctors or the doctors we end up with are gonna be trash
Do the people mad about this think that sports revenue come from the magic revenue fairy? When the sport makes more money - the players will be paid according to the value owners place on them. In the case of the big-4 US sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL) this works out really well for the players. It also works out pretty well in other sports like Soccer, Cricket, Golf and Tennis for some players. It even works out really well for women in sports where the women's division sees a lot of revenue like Tennis and MMA.
The owners WANT to make money -- so they'll reward those players who help them bring revenue to the sport. But they have to do so _at a level that is sustainable_ based on the total amount of revenue the sport brings in. Compare an NBA stadium packed with fanatic fans who will pay hundreds of dollars for seat for every game to an WNBA game that is half-empty even when they are practically giving tickets away.
Don't like the disparity? Go to the games. Spend money on the merchandise. There isn't a magic revenue fairy -- YOU are the revenue that determines how much these players will make.
1- The NBA subsidizes the league anywhere from 12-16 million a year for 27 years or she would not have a job at all.
2- The woman receive a higher percentage of total revenue then the men receive and that is not disputed.
3- There are 12 teams and 40 games a year in a league where last season 1 team was profitable.
4- There are millions of employees working for profitable companies for 40 hours a week all year long that make less.
5- There are more women then men in the united states so if woman want the league to be popular and profitable they are perfectly able to do the heavy lifting and spend their money and time to ensure it succeeds.
6. If the wnba was a men's league they would have disbanded 20+ years ago. THe fact that the WNBA still operates is in fact a charity largely done to promote womens sports even when losing money horribly for over a quarter of a century.
When you take into account the above ilsted facts , not only are Women being treated better then men they are given special treatment and grace that no men's league would ever receive.
STOP DISTORTING THE FACTS IN AN ATTEMPT TO PAINT SOCIETY AS A TYRANNICAL PATRIARCHY HOLDING WOMEN BACK OR TREATING THEM POORLY WHEN THE ENTIRE LEAGUE IS A GIFT FROM MOSTLY THE MALE NBA OWNERS TO EVEN GIVE THEM A PLATFORM
