I just went there yesterday, and can confirm that it is indeed a monster score level pie. A 9.3 is totally justified. I would go 9.5. It's the style I like, and it's one of the best of that style I've ever had.

Best pizza I've had yet. Very sweet fresh tomato sauce. It's thin, crispy, and you can actually taste the yeast in the crust. I think it just barely beats John's of bleekers by a millimeter.

Finally had Lucali today, excellent pizza. It was definitely better than John Bleekers Pizza. The basil that they serve is so damn fresh and minty. The Pizza does live up to the hype but it's not because of the Pizza by itself but also how fancy the restaurant is. You should also get the Calzone as well. The cheese on the calzone is super fresh. I also do recommend only eating at the restaurant because cold pizza never taste good when you take it out.

as a teacher, I think Dave should create a rubric. that way, you can compare pizza places and all of their reviews. If I have a good essay from two years ago, I can compare it with an essay from this year, using the same rubric. It's not fool-proof, but it's as close to fair and transparent as it gets. some suggested categories: sauce, cheese, crust, taste, price/value, ambiance, etc., and even other categories like ambiance, or 'other menu items'. from the episodes I've watched, it seems Dave likes his crust very thin and crispy, with not too much sauce. if this is true, then the rubric would have these as his 'exceeds the standard' definitions. As most know, the lower ratings would be defined as, 'meets', 'approaching', 'does not meet', and either 'fails to meet' or 'does not attempt'. perhaps the show would lose some of the casual appeal, but you could 'officially' score the pizza later, and put it into a spreadsheet for all to see....
