Sugar Ray Robinson's idol, and one of the greatest pressure fighters in boxing history. Henry Armstrong was one of the finest boxers to ever step foot in the ring. Once Robinson & Joe Louis were in a room with a boxing promoter when Henry Armstrong knocked on the door, the promoter told Robinson & Louis to be quiet until he had gone away and explained Armstrong was looking to borrow $500. Henry Armstrong had fallen on hard times and resorted to asking friends to lend him money. Robinson couldn't believe how disrespectful this boxing promoter was to his idol. Some time later the young Robinson agreed to fight the out of retirement Armstrong and ensure him a big enough pay day to live comfortably for the rest of his years. The fight went to a judges decision as Robinson let Armstrong clinch when his legs faltered. After the fight he announced his retirement and Robinson went on to be P4P one of the greatest fighters alongside his idol. Thanks for making these amazing videos Rez, since I first saw your Robinson video I've been in awe. G.O.A.T!
Jamie Lee awesome story bro litrally made me think, same with Ali and Floyd Patterson they were acc good friends, the reason why Ali and Patterson fought a second time because the IRS and other tax companies were coming after him, When Ali notified the press Patterson was next alot of people includinh corsell were against it but once Ali had told them including Corsell they were all on board💯
One of Armstrong’s sayings was, “the best defense, is all offense”. Number one in my book. Became a preacher later in life. Thank you again for this rare footage.
Not as much bob and weaving as the Great "Smokin" Joe Frazier many years after, but I'm sure Armstrong was a great influence on Joe's boxing ways. What a fighter Armstrong was. A true legend of the Ring. Great víd. Amazing.
This man was the probably the best all time, pound for pound. 15 round championship rounds, and non title defenses, one world champ in those days and 19 successful consecutive defenses of the welterweight title. He separated the men from the boys. I don't believe any of today's contenders and champions would have stood a chance against Armstrong. Thank you for the post and memories.
Reznick, you never cease to amaze me. The footage you collect, the music you choose, the editing you make, and the boxing knowledge you display are all phenomenal. Each highlight video tells a story (not just a montage of big hits like most channels). Keep doing what you do - I'll be watching 'til the end.
Great video on a great "fighter". The man held 3 REAL world titles at the same time in 1938...feather...light...& welter. He got robbed fighting for the middleweight title against Ceferino Garcia in 1940. Fought from 1931 to 1945. 150 wins 101 KO's...passed away in 1988 at the age of 78...
Jim I love all your comments on Reznick's channel, but the one that impressed me the most was the one on Rocky Marciano's highlights video..maybe it was the longest one too
I love your videos. I was trying to relax and chill after work and I couldn't figure out if I wanted to listen to "Down" or watch your video. I chose to watch the video because it's about Henry Armstrong. Then low and behold I ended up getting two for one. Get out of my head... Lol.
It's weird one of the most gentlemanly boxers ever (in and out of the ring) has one of the most brutal and aggressive fighting styles (with defense built in) ever.
Bro your videos are masterpiece you have a gift bro, your best video will always be sugar ray robinsons, if he seen that it would have gave him a smile thats for sure😂
Rez, bro.. you got the best boxing videos hands down. Music and everything. It’s like watching a trailer or mini movie about their life. Love it. Keep it up bro!
_"The greatest Boxer who ever lived."_ -Teddy Atlas. _"My hero."_ -Sugar Ray Robinson. _"One of the top three fighters I've ever seen."_ -Bert Sugar. Yep. Henry's highly rated it seems!
I think this is hands down one of the best highlights videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. Music works perfectly with the video, and you really capture the historical significance and character of the fighters. Wish I could make videos like this! Lol great video 👍🏻
Take note of how very many body punches Armstrong throws; it is so obviously the correct way to box. Punches to the head can be slipped and blocked, punches to the head are much harder to land than are punches thrown to body. The long lost art of body punching. Wear down and beat up the opponent over and over and over by going downstairs to the body. Also makes it easier to land punches to opponent's head when you beat up his body. What a pleasure it is to watch this fellow fight.
Body punches wear down an opponent. Take away strength and endurance, stamina. Duran, Robinson, Armstrong, Marciano, etc. There are great boxers with styles who dont use body punches in their arsenal all that much, but it is very rare for a great boxer not to throw body punches regularly. Body punching is an extremely effective way to attack an opponent and win the fight.
@@nycinstyle Exactly. Also if you look at greats like Marciano, Frazier, Armstrong etc they worked the body very successful. Also not only the body, but the arms as well as shoulders are very fragile and exposed for punches. Broken arms, ribs, damaged nerfs and vessels were no rarity.
you my friend are the greatest in youtube and i’m not disappointed my favorite fighter has no attention like the others but would be cool if people realized how great this man is
Matthew 12:36-37 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.
Great video, thank you. A wonderful example of the head as a point of defense. From writer A.J. Liebling's masterpiece "Ahab and Nemesis" on Archie Moore vs. Rocky Marciano: "...As every beginner learns, 'the head is the hardest part of the human body,' and a boxer will only break his hands on it. Many boxers make the systematic presentation of the cranium part of their defensive scheme."
My Father who knew his boxing inside out always called him ''Homicide Henry or Hank'' or ''Hurricane Hank'' i never heard him ever calling him ''Hammerin''
Sad to see how much facial damage those tiny gloves caused old-time boxers. Glad that the sport has evolved to protect fighters a lot more in the modern era (maybe a little too much at times lol).
Little Samson...hard to believe how far you can go, even if you start out waiting for drunk guys at closing time for a fight. Often outweighed but rarely outworked, Henry Armstrong is one of the greatest ever!
Can you imagine if you can alter time and create the ultimate fantasy match? I would put Aaron Pryor vs Henry Armstrong in their primes against each other.
From a time when boxing was the greatest sport in the world , best fought the best and everyone got paid , of course they were prize fighters but seemingly the most important prize was been recognised as number 1 .... Oh how times have changed for the worse

Jamie Lee thanks for posting this great little known story behind Armstrong and Sugar Ray Robinson 👍
The beauty of boxing
Thanks for sharing that story!
Read Sugar Ray Robinson's autobiography called Sugar Ray; it is really good (as are most of the boxing books I have read).
One of Armstrong’s sayings was, “the best defense, is all offense”.
Number one in my book.

Thanks man
Reznick Boxing bra why I can't watch it here in Russia?
So true, Reznick is a hero, really resurrected some of those legend their careers through a highlight video.
EPIC stuff! Really brought out his character and the era into the vid, rather than just the fighter himself. Love it
Great to see you here! :)
Good job Rez, Henry Armstrong was definitely one of the greatest fighters ever to step in the ring and I know he would approve of this good video.
he is back , and much better. your videos are fabulous seriously. best boxing highlights are made by you !

Another masterpiece Rez! Like the track selection and man he was a swarmer! Reminds me of Joe Frazier!
Chad LeGlue ,Joe used to watch henry on movie reels and admired him so much he tried to emulate henrys style, keep punching 'till they drop
This man defended the welterweight title 19 times a record for that division
5 times in 1 month!!!

Everybody gets tunnel vision on what does the most raw damage
It’s not about raw damage it’s about knowledge is lost.
Hopefully some coaches will restore their knowledge about what’s effective and what’s not.
