Introduction to Vibration and Dynamics

- Structural vibration is both fascinating and infuriating. Whether you’re watching the wings of an aircraft or the blades of a wind turbine as they flex to absorb turbulence, you have to admire the elegant engineering that discriminates between a structure’s ability to absorb loads against its desire to resonate and shake itself to pieces.
Of course we remember learning about vibration at University. We mostly remember hours spent solving differential equations and matrices, and the look of joy on a young academic’s face as he or she finally proves the natural frequencies of a drum skin or the volumetric modes of a cup of coffee. It can’t be denied the mathematics of vibration are wonderfully elegant and perhaps even beautiful, so that when we finally master all the techniques we can genuinely take pride that we are part of that top 1% of the world’s population who actually understands such stuff. However, in the course of our careers we often forget this knowledge and the sheer thought of revising all that maths is particularly daunting. So that’s the purpose of this short webinar: to introduce (or revise) the principle concepts of structural vibration and dynamics without all the equations. The video is divided in three parts: Part 1 introduces the principle concepts of structural vibration applied to a trivially simple structure, while parts 2 & 3 extends these concepts to more complex examples.
Part 1 - Structural dynamics What is the Dynamic Equilibrium and Natural Frequency? What is the ‘Frequency Response Function (FRF)’ of a vibrating structure? What's the effect of Damping? What is meant by ‘quasi-static’ response? What are 'linear' and 'non-linear' structures?
Part 2 - Vibration loading & structural response What is Power Spectral Density (PSD) How do I calculate structural response using PSD and FRF?
Part 3 - Vibration and Dynamics of real structures - Multi-degree of freedom systems What are ‘Modal frequencies’, ‘Mode Shapes’, ‘nodes’ and ‘anti-nodes’? How to calculate the Frequency Response Function (FRF) of a multi-modal structure What is anti-resonance? What is modal damping and how do we estimate it using: Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) Operational Modal Analysis (OMA)

This presentation is simply perfect to understand how structural dynamics works, specially in Wind Turbines, thank you so much for sharing :)
Perfect presentation! It's my first time to understand this thoroughly like that! Thanks
Wonderful! Well structured, to the point, simplified lecture.
Thank you so much for such an informative and clear session. Keep up the great work 👍👏👏
Excellent presentation. Concise and intuitive.
Oh, my God
I have been searching a lot for the true meaning of dynamics... and all I find are the mathematical equations in ouruniversity
thank you very much
Thanks a lot for sharing!. It really helped me to grasp some of the difficult concepts.
One of the best video to understand vibrations!
Extremely clear transfer of information!
You are superb , beautifully explained , Great.
Good and simple explanation.
Great introduction, easy to understand the basic concepts.
Thank you so much
Oh my God! I finally got it. Beautiful explanation.
Very glad to hear that! Thanks for watching.
lovely useful clip! thank you
Thank you very much for an interesting and clear lecture.
We're glad you found this presentation useful, thank you for taking the time to watch!
Awesome clear explanation, thanks for the effort and congrats for the didatics
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome program to refresh my mind after being a few years out of uni. Thank you!
thank you
Thank you very much ..❤
Amazing 👏 .thanks for your efforts
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
Great lesson. could you tell me what is the lowest acceptable natural frequency of tall building to resist only wind load and what's the acceptable acceleration.
great information
This is excelent! I hope that youwill keep up great work like this!
Thank you for sharing this positive feedback!
Amazing
Thank a lot
Thanks for the video . Very helpful. On the minute 40:01 of the video you mention that there are slides with more math included for the calculation of PSD. Could you please share that ?
Please request them at www.reliasoft.com/about/contact-us. Thank you for watching!
thank you very much from china
Excellent lecture sir.
Thank you so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!
In the mass matrix, Ip must be devised by 2 for the node 1 too, I think ?
hi, any chance to get this lecture pdf file .
thanks
It's amazing presentation sir! Thank you for sharing!
Sir, can I get the slides please?
Please request them at www.reliasoft.com/about/contact-us. Thank you for watching!
This the video makes my life suffer less from being hard stuck
Glad we could help!
on 54:17 a statement is made that for each resonance there should be an anti resonance. I think this does not hold for every FRF, only for a driving point FRF (the excitation and measurement location are the same). Can somebody confirm or deny this please. I am very curious

Nice reference! :) Thanks for watching!
@@Ncode yes, it was the first thing on my mind when i heard you introduction.
@@Ncode really good explanation btw.
@@_Wai_Wai_ Thank you so much!
I’m a novice and I understood the theories clearly thank you
We are so glad to hear that! Thank you for watching.
I'm studying a rotating structure and for the first time of my life i see, when i pplot my Campbell Diagram, i see that my forward curve crosses my backward curve and it's a sawtooth curve. Can someone help me to undrstand it please?
Hi Zedd. If you would like further assistance, please provide us your contact information via www.ncode.com/about/contact-us
Hi can any one help me in vibration equation please?
Excellent!!! Thank you
Can I have the slides, please?
Glad you enjoyed it! Please reach out to www.ncode.com/about/contact-us, and one of our representatives will be happy to help you!
pure physics explained without mathematics!!
NVH cant be explained simpler than this
Thank you so much! We're glad you enjoyed this.
