This selection of tutorials has to be, in my opinion, the best I've seen. Tamsin's experience and tuition has helped me to continue to keep on learning to play the low d whistle. It was great to hear her say she had the same troubles with producing the notes that I'm having now and with perseverance, practice, using the technics that she has described in her video, you will get better at producing the notes. All ready this is beginning to work. Keep up the great work Tamsin!
Thanks for the video, still very useful after 5 years. I have just started to learn the tin whistle, but my real goal is the Irish low whistle. My hands are almost too big for the tin whistle, but I want to learn to play it properly first. So I thought I'd start with that.
Thank you Tamsin, your video is really encouraging to beginners, extremely well done. I only bought my low D whistle and nearly gave up, thinking it was totally impossible to do that stretch, but you have definitely given me that little push to go ahead with the practice. Many Thanks. J
Super helpful! I just got my first low D and I’ve been like “how am I supposed to grip this thing?!” And your video was the most helpful for sure thank you!!
Lovely! I recently purchased a JDM low whistle after playing the high whistle for just some weeks (a small Feadog one) and my biggest struggle is actually the air flow 🤣Can't play fast tunes yet mostly because of this.
Great stuff Tamsin, great video, I've got the opposite problem, I've got enormous hands so find low whistle a breeze but really need to think about it what I'm doing on the High Whistle!
Tamsin here; thanks for the feedback! I'm still working on the next tutorial, it'll be out very soon! I'll let you know here when it's published, or you can subscribe the channel above. Cheers!x
Good video. Thanks. I am finding the wrist on my lower arm hurts when holding / playing using the pipers’s grip. I must somehow have the angle wrong. Guess I’ll just need to persevere.
I'm new to this whistle and the pipers grip do I have to use my left at the top of can switch it round and have my right hand at the top? Just feels more comfortable tbh
I know this video is really old but do you know what's the name of the song you were playing? It sounds like "ocean" but I can't understand well because I'm not that good in English 😅

Brilliant! I used your pipers grip technique on my new low D whistle and now I'm playing music. Thanks for this.
I think I will subscribe.
That's great to hear - glad I managed to explain it ok!
2:55 yeeeesssssss! Finally, an instrument where my fat sausage fingers are not a disadvantage 🤪

That's crazy, although I kind of get it as I struggle a bit when I play high whistle after playing low for ages... they're so tiny!!
Very useful exlanations and tips for handling the unusual flute for me as piper! Thanks a lot!👍❤️
Thank you for sharing this encouragement & experience.
Excellent advice, thanks for this - worked for me (with a few days' practice!)

Have you tried a Carbony Low D Close finger whistle.

Guys, help me, I still can't reach the 6th hole with my ring finger, I can't even do full scales because of that 😢😢 how to stretch it?
