Volcano Eruption Power Comparison
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 лис 2017
- In this 4th episode, we compare the scale, power and size of several infamous volcanoes and how they compare in size to others. From VEI index 1 to 8, we compare the power of eruptions of volcanoes from Stromboli (VEI 1) to Eyjafjallajökull (VEI 4) to Krakatoa (VEI 6) and even to super volcanoes such as Yellowstone (VEI 8) and even "hyper-volcanoes"!
Note:
Mt Tambora (VEI 7) has wrong plume height and tephra released, the correct one should be: Plume Height: 40km/25mi, Tephra released: 160km3.
Rinjini is spelled wrongly, it should be Rinjani
Additionally, "Hyper-Volcano" is not a real word and does not exist! But it sounds amazing!

So of the VEI 8 explosions, the super-eruptions, one happened in Indonesia (Toba Lake in Sumatra), one happened in New Zealand (Mt. Taupo in North Island) and TWO happened in the U.S. (Yellowstone in Wyoming and La Garita in southwestern Colorado). This makes me feel real good about living in North America...

Mount Merapi is a volcano in the central part of Java Island and is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia
So basically, to solve our global warming crisis we need one of these super volcano eruptions? Great
Most definitely not.
if that happens, i think we would suffocate because of the ash in the air. Not really sure but without research and only with stock knowledge.
Kate Smirnova it might not help us humans but it will definitely benefit the Earth
Ash blocks the sun, so think about what happens to plants...
Actually it helps solve global warming not because of the immediate temp decrease, but because of wiping-out of humans or at least putting humans near-extinction
I am an Indonesian citizen, and I just want to give a little information to you, ancient krakatoa mountain only has a height of 2000 meters with an explosion that was so terrible. but to date, Indonesia has the highest volcano that has never erupted. that is, Mount Kerinci with an altitude of 3,801 meters, I believe ... if this volcano erupts, half the island of Sumatra will split! and

Edit: the likes are not as much as my subscribe
Yeah, supervolcanoes usually takes the shape of very large calderas, so that's not surprising.
Toba is still active by the way
@Vincent Shelton actually Krakatoa is active
@Vincent Shelton the time span between 1883 and present is like a few seconds in a volcanoes life
@Vincent Shelton it erupted in 2020
Krakatoa's eruption in 2020 was about VEI 2. 1883 was VEI 6. There could be a possibility if a Supervolcano would only erupt in VEI 3.
Most active “Super Volacano” are past the caldera stage and have active Strato Volcano vents relieving pressure. Only a few like Yellowstone don’t but they can produce much smaller eruptions. The last eruption of any sort at Yellowstone was a non explosive simple basaltic lava flow 70 000 years and the last proper explosive was a VEI 7 174 000 years ago at the West Thumb Caldera part that lies within the last VEI 8 created caldera from 640 000 years ago
@@filledwithvariousknowledge2747 a question, couldn't humans relieve the pressure in advance via digging?
Ontake = Yellowstone
The eruption of Krakatoa in 2020 was far below that of 1883. The eruption in 1883 destroyed the mountain, reducing its height below sea level. The mighty eruption of the supervolcano in its prime formed an extremely large caldera. After such a powerful eruption, the volcanic activity could decrease.

@maciejl20 water vapor accounts for 95% of greenhouse effect. Human CO2 influence is extremely minimal
@maciejl20 Just google CO2 graph vs time and look at it and if you think that the giant unprecedented spike at our time is just a coincidence then you sir are blind to the facts that the entire scientific community accepts. Just think for a second here. Humans are contributing 7% of the total CO2 output per year. That's 7% higher than the background rate which is pretty much in equilibrium without people. That's a huge amount of CO2 over time compounding year after year just building up in the atmosphere.
