I think they were just surprised that the difference was perceptible, you know? The speed of sound in atmosphere works out to well over 1,000 feet per second.... So being that close, one would think the two events would be essentially simultaneous. This just shows how awesome the human brain is.

For those expecting them to actually be firing the A-turret (what they called the forward-most turret on a warship), I'm fairly certain this was done using pyrotechnics. The firing of a 5-inch naval rifle would have produced a noticeable recoil and a bigger bang.

Can we just as a society decide that if it’s not on an 18th century ship of the line, it’s a GUN, not a cannon. Cannons are on wheels, are muzzle-loaded, and roll back when fired. Guns are breech-loaded and don’t have to be cleaned out after every shot.
TLDR: If it doesn’t fire a CANNONball, it shouldn’t be called at cannon

    Some fun facts for ya.
The kidd was the only the only ship for some time allowed to fly a skull and crossbones flag, yeah, they were pirates. The kidd was also one of a very few battleships with an ice cream machine, this was a luxury at the time reserved mostly for aircraft carriers. So in order to get the ingredients for their ice cream they would hold supplies and personnel hostage during a transfer ship to ship on the open ocean. Hence the pirate name and flag.
I may or may not have really enjoyed this place during field trips, and subsequent trips.
