After being moored at this spot for more than forty years the USS KIDD was towed to a shipyard for some much needed repairs. She should be back in about a year.
That isn’t a destroyer. And the gun didn’t actually fire. If it did it would’ve been much more than a puff of smoke and a pop. And if it did actually fire, which I doubt, but if it did, they probably used a blank shell with less gun powder
For those expecting them to actually be firing the A-turret (what they called the forward-most turret on a warship), I'm fairly certain this was done using pyrotechnics. The firing of a 5-inch naval rifle would have produced a noticeable recoil and a bigger bang.
My friend, I think that you might be a little bit misinformed about The US Navy. The USS Iowa is the lead ship in the Iowa class fast battleships. Los Angeles class boats are a class of nuclear ballistic missile submarines.
Weak, I want to hear a Fast Battleship fire off a 16" blank

Nice to realise that Iowas, NC class and couple other BB classes had nearly 10 of those guns per each side

Louisiana needs more attention 😢😢
How does the whistle blowers work to make it so loud
For a while the 51 mount would fire a blank at noon to announce "its lunch time" for the workers in downtown.
BTW, that's the USS Kidd. It's a fletcher class ship
Now lets try it with USS New Jersey
Dont do that you'll get the gun lover to vote to get one,

And thats a blank. Imagine the sound when a shell is actually fired.
Small black powder charge and no projectile. If it was a real full charge and projectile the folks on the focsle would be bleeding from their ears.
Imagine the Yamato still existed and they did a test fire

Wow. And I’ve been on this ship many times. I pass on the bridge every month. I would’ve never thought it could still fire. Awesome!
wait till the USS Grandpa fires
Cannon? That's a 127mm gun
Imagine if it was the Los Angeles class USS Iowa doing a test fire... that deck would be deserted.
