Say what you want about Jalen Hurts but he's a winner first. His contract is nothing like any top 10 QB, it's extremely team friendly and allowed them to spend on valuable positions.

A couple of reasons for this.
Mahomes is taking less than he could be demanding, to help the team retain more talent.
Mahomes earns far more in endorsements.
He's basically following Tom Brady's example, although Tom was also fortunate enough to have a wife for most of his career, that earned significantly more than Tom did.
You don’t need an elite WR to win a SB. Get yourself 2 solid WR’s and elite o line with a QB, and you’re all set.

Well, defenses win superbowls. If you don't have it, Trent Dilfer never wins! Tom Brady might have a Super Bowl win, Peyton Manning doesn't win 2 Superbowls, Aaron Rodgers, Chicago, Raiders, Ravens, and so on! Your defense has to be middle of the pack or better depending on your offense. Nobody walks into the Superbowl with an all madden team! The cap kills that opportunity, and taking pay cuts is key. The Bengals, without fantastic drafting and extreme luck, are destined to miss the Superbowl throughout the remainder of Joe's carrier!

Not really. A QB needs to pick between money or winning. Pat Mahomes made his choice when he signed a 10 year contract, which is unprecedented.
The Bengals have the cap space and cash available to sign everyone. They had really bad drafts in 2021 and 2022 (the two classes coming up for free agency and extensions) and their 2023 draft isn't looking so hot either. So they don't have all that many players to re-sign and a lot of space and cash to spend.
Videos like this one are based on false assumptions and not having an in-depth understanding of the Bengals cap situation.
With that said, our front office is incompetent, so I won't rule out the possibility that they miss this lay up of an off season.

It always amazes me that these ESPN analysts can't do math and don't understand economics. They always push the QBs, & everyone else, to sign the maximum amount they can get on their contracts every time. @reddwyd yeah it's a silly thing to think it's bad. Manning played in the same system his whole career. He brought most of his favorite concepts to the Broncos to Kubiak. Brees played his best football in Sean Paytons system. That's how you get crazy consistency by building a good system around your QB. If you don't have a system, you're probably not lasting as an OC. And if you don't know how to adapt it to your QB you're definitely not going to last.

You can't pay $60 million to 2 WR's and expect to continue to build. Sign Chase to a 4 year deal, draft Mathew Golden to replace Tee Higgins on a rookie scale contract. Use all other cap space and picks to address all other holes.
It's tough but as an NFL gm, you have to make quick decisions on the players you're going to keep around and extend them as soon as possible.
Look at Mahomes, his contract is now a basic quality QB contract now... In a few years as the salary cap goes up and then you'll have enough money to keep your other guys, but you can't wait to extend like my niners have started doing or you start running into real roster problems.

Each team has the same TV money which pays them most of their income for players, staff, operations and a cut of the owners. The difference is how you manage your 'cap' space. I do wish that there was some way for teams to get out of bad contracts, to have guarantees caps and limits obligated to pay for them as well as some budget set aside as bonus monies for lower paid free agents and low draft picks to more fairly comp them. Cleveland should have never given Deshawn Watson the huge contract and it full guarantees especially with his highly troubled personal history and I believe they should have a 'out' due to poor performance and potential future non-availability.

It’s not the players job to manage the cap. That’s the GM’s job. Now if they went to Joe and asked him to make a Mahomes type deal and Burrow turned it down that’d be a different story, but we don’t know if it happened that way.
Looking at Cincinnati's contracts and cap situation. They can definitely afford to resign them. Just they will have to cut kappa, Hendrickson, and Rankins. All three of those individuals dramatically under performed. Rankin's barely touched the field, do to an undisclosed illness. Those cuts will give them what they need to dip into free agency, and sign some players as well.

I believe you have to have like 125% or something like that of the tag number to do that. That money would be tied up until a deal is done. There is a reason teams rarely do it.
