- Brendan Bowyer (12th October 1938 - 28th May 2020) was an Irish singer best known for fronting the Royal Showband and The Big Eight, and who had five number one hits in Ireland. He was also renowned for having The Beatles open for the Royal Showband at a concert on the 2nd April 1962 at the Pavilion Theatre, Liverpool, some six months before the release of The Beatles first single "Love Me Do" in October 1962. Bowyer was regarded as one of the first headlining Elvis impersonators. Elvis Presley himself was a big fan of Bowyer's performances and would often attend Bowyer's concerts in the Stardust Resort & Casino, Las Vegas during the 1970s. At one of these concert's Presley heard Bower sing 'You gave me a mountain' and asked him who wroye it and if he would mind if he also were to record it.

I met brendan about 10 years ago in the gleneagle Hotel in killarney,what a lovely gentleman had plenty time for everyone, no graces at him.just think what he achieved in his career, went to the UK had the beetles as a relief band then went to Vegas became friends with Elvis actually gave him this fantastic song,there should definitely have been a film made about his life before his passing hopefully in the near future as this is a remarkable story.Rip Brenda you are up there with the best.john Vaughan kerry Ireland 🇮🇪 ♥
HI JOHN ACTUALLY IT WS BRENDAN RECORDED YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN FIRST ELVIS WENT TO SEE BRENDAN AND THE FAMOUS FANTASTIC ROYAL SHOWBAND WATERFORD CITY IN CONCERT IN THE STARDUST HOTEL LAS VEGAS HE LOVED BRENDAN SINGING YOU GAVE ME A MOUNTAIN HE LATER ASKED BRENDAN WHO WROTE THIS SONG BRENDAN TOLD HIM IT WAS A MARTY ROBBINS SONG ELVIS LOVED IT SO MUCH HE LATER SANG IT ON THE WORLDWIDE TRANSMISSION OF HIS LIVE CONCERT IN 1973 IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT A BILLION PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD WATCHED THE CONCERT BRENDAN BOWYER OCTOBER 12TH 1938 T0 MAY 28TH 2020 AND ELVIS AND ALL DECEASED MEMBERS OF THE FAMOUS FANTASTIC ROYAL SHOWBAND R I P AMEN ❤

In the sixtys . Us kids and teens danced to the hucklebuck . . .a few months earlier going to there film the ..one nighters..and of course ..the beatles ...a hard .days night ..went twice in one week. .to see.it.differant world for the youth today.but us .who grew up in the 60/70s will always listen to the music we grew yp with ....

Beautyfull voice .i was only elevin /twelve when first heard breandan bower.. .when i was 13 .went to the film . .the one nighters n the regant .cimema in kilkenny..
