In the summer of 1956 I commuted from Speonk to Sayville to correct deficiency in algebra at summer school. The high school in those days was a block from the station. After school, I could catch an RDC to Patchogue and hang out at the PD tower waiting for the next eastbound. It was a different railroad with small stations all over the place, including Bayport, Blue Point, Brookhaven, Mastic, Center and East Moriches and Eastport. And everybody was friendly.
Good Evening Tim!! Great video!! I think that the town of Bellport used to be the home of the Goochy Fireworks family. Am I right? I know that in one of your Cab Ride videos from the 1990's you said that. Please correct me though if I am wrong. Thanks!! Have a wonderful weekend!!
Lot more exciting then Holmesburg Junction. When ya get down to Philly again, I hope get some video the abandoned Reading New Town Line from Rhawn Street North. AKA R 8
Excellent picturesque journey. Thanks very much. Back in the summer of 1949 I rode a couple of steam powered trains to and from the Brookhaven station. I also have some personal photos of the last steam engine excursion train in November 1967 taking on water from a fire truck at the Bellport station siding. You might want to check the dates for the final abandonment and track removal of the Manorville/Eastport spur. While any passenger service using this route was apparently ended by 1949, it still had to be used for freight purposes for a while longer, as I recall seeing freight box cars sitting on the track just north of Montauk Highway as late as the mid 1950s. Also in the opinion of many of us in Center Moriches there really was no legitimate reason to close the Center Moriches station in 1998. In our collective opinions, "Low Ridership" was merely a lame excuse given by the cheapskate LIRR president of the time to avoid spending the money to construct at a minimum a one or two car raised platform for the C3's, ala Bellport. A reopened CM station would certainly be of great use today for the burgeoning populations of the greater Center Moriches/East Moriches/Manorville communities.
Who knows. They may revive it. The Moriches’s is a nice area. Much better than Mastic-Shirley area. I try to avoid that as much as possible. My granddaughter and I had ice cream at the Carvel on Montauk highway a couple of months ago.
@@3985uprr I avoid using Mastic-Shirley station like the plague. Always use Speonk station even though it is 15 minutes driving time from home vs. 7 minutes to Mastic-Shirley, plus adding 16 minutes rail time each direction. There was a petition drive a year or two ago to reopen CM station submitted to MTA/LIRR, but nothing ever came of it. Most likely it was merely tossed into a circular file. Interestingly, the published run times between Mastic-Shirley and Speonk still include time for stops at Center Moriches.
@@jkrspecnetto bad center Moriches closed, you can even see the remenants of the parking lot, old platform, & siding. In my opinion Bayport, Center Moriches, Quogue and Wainscott should be restored as stations
Thank you a very nice tour. We also went John Ducks Restaurant as a family in the late 50s and early 60s. I think one of my first railroad rides was with my father and brother on a budd car. My mother drove the family car racing ahead to us up after a couple of stations
Hey Tim hope your doing great, Go maple 🍁 leafs, Question why don't the M1,M3,M7 electric units do not sound bells arriving at stations yet locomotive push or pull trains do Amtrak, freight, etc. Thanks
hi Tim I'm virtually new to youtube channel and I virtually see some of your videos and you do very exelent but very well compare to other railfanners alike. I from judging to past v,ideos I see how u communicate conductors & train engineers like MCR conductor like paul that you are very nice to him compare to LIRR engineer flying yankee. so Tim I want to know if possible if you can do either side view or front view on an M-7A or a M3A from grand central to southeast NY. take care.
Tim, is there a cover or a device of some sort for your mic that would cut down on the wind noise? At times, it's so loud and annoying that it's difficult to hear your narration. Thanks.......
I live on Bay Ave 3rd crossing from PD
Beautiful to see this section from the ground. Learned a few things for sure. 😊

On the day before Thanksgiving 2022, I saw a Bald Eagle eating a fish on the tracks near Westport.
The Montauk branch is gorgeous.
Interesting video. Nice scenery. Thanks Tim😀💚

Yes it is. Forgot to mention that. It’s also a town that was often mentioned on leave it to Beaver.

The Swezey Fuel Co. at Rider Avenue crossing certainly LOOKS as if it could've accommodated a spur siding...
Nice video
Such a tranquil stretch in the Brookhaven Area!!!
