What a wonderful surprise! 💞💓💞 I loved this awesome video. Great job as always❣ Wait for it..... The ending made me laugh out loud & rewind.... So much love & blessings for a great 2025🎉🎊🎉
Person, person! As a die hard Remington Steele fan, I need to tell you (perhaps remind you) that Remington Steele was the first rom/com dramedy on TV, and in fact one of the creators of Moonlighting was a writer on Remington Steele who got tired of having his ideas shot down. Also, Pierce Brosnan as Remington Steele does appear in Moonlighting.
I also seem to recall a Die Hard video game that released during the Playstation 1 era and featured an original story involving John McClain and his Daughter who in this continuity was a Rookie Police Officer.
Nothing Lasts Forever is a very good book. I like to think of it as an Elseworlds Die Hard. And the fact that Frank Sinatra played Joe Leland is icing on the cake.
Okay being literally named after this character, not getting a film titled “McClane” upset me to my core lmao BUT I gotta say, I didn’t know it ever had the possible title of “Old Habits Die Hard” and that’s quite possibly the greatest sequel title of anything I’ve ever heard
Wow. I didn’t know that the diehard franchise has links all the way back to 1968 with “ The Detective.” Starring the great Frank Sinatra. It’s too bad that Sinatra couldn’t have made a cameo or have been part of Die Hard in 1988. Having two of the greats, “ The Chairman of the Board “ & “Bruno” in the same movie.
I enjoy the films but so glad you touch on the video games that was based off the IP. SEGA knock it out the park with Die Hard Arcade & help sparked the dying “ Beat ‘em Up” genre during that time.
Great video! Very well researched.. However, a few things were left out: 1. Die Hard 2 was originally pitched as a Commando 2 but Arnie turned it down, then it became a Die Hard 2... the Commando sequel makes sense as to why the villian was a Rogue Military Colonel... 2. The Simon Says script that became Die Hard with a Vengeance retained about 80% of the original story, only a little bit of it needed to be changed to turn it into a Die Hard movie. 3. Live Free or Die Hard got an R rated release on DVD and Bluray that put back all the F-bombs and you hear his signature phrase clearly, it also did not have all the PG-13 cuts in the actions sequences so they were a bit more violent and bloody. 4. A Good Day to Die Hard was the first movie in the franchise to be written as a Die Hard movie and not a previously written story where John McClane was added into it to become a Die Hard movie.
2 things you didn't include for the first movie. Television is introduced for the first time as a protagonist in thrillers and action movies, which later became fashionable. It is probably the only movie ever made where every scene has an impact on some future scene. Things that make it very significant for movie history
8:39 Not only did John McClane get hurt in the movie, Bruce Willis lost a good chunk of his hearing because of scenes like this - the gunshots made such a loud noise.
Wow i never that!!! I love Larry Fishbourne hes dope. But i can't imagine "ANY1"else besides Sam Jackson playing JULES in Pulp Fictiom....le royale with cheese 😂😂
Die Hard 2 screenwriter Doug Richardson actually wrote a draft of Die Hard 4 where John McClain teams up with his son who is a computer hacker to battle some cyber terrorists. The script was completely different than the film they ended up making and in my opinion a million times better. Sadly, Willis said no to it. At the time, he wanted McClain to protect his daughter not team up with his son.
You never mentioned the abundance that magically appeared out of know where in the back of the truck lol. Apparently what was said the audience would be so caught up in the story they wouldn't even notice 😂😂😂😂
Die hard correct ranking: Die Hard Live Free or Die Hard Die Hard: With a Vengeance Die Hard 2 . . . . . . . . . . . (A few million more dots) . . Die Hard 5
@@mcclanesjolund4813 2 is my fave one, and I watch 1/2 every xmas. So I'm not sure what you're trying to say. 4 is mostly meh, being a sanitized DH. Adding digitalized blood and off screen curses doesn't make it better.
Ryan, I’m surprised you got this one point wrong. “Die Harder” was the tagline of “Die Hard 2”, not its subtitle. But the marketing was confusing and everyone assuming it was part of the name, much like people confused the title of “Edge of Tomorrow” with its tag line “Live, Die, Repeat” (which the director wanted as its title-it’s so confusing). In the movie itself, only the title “Die Hard 2” appears (much like “Raiders of the Lost Ark” never includes “Indiana Jones and the” in the movie, so that’s not its not part of its official name despite what might be on the DVD cover).
Great synopsis. Never saw the 3rd movie, and didn't know there was a 5th movie. I must be the only person in the country who enjoyed the 3rd movie, but I live in my own world. lol
Great breakdown. Although, I only consider the first three Die Hard movies as canon....just like the original Indiana Jones trilogy. After the third installments, I check-out. 😎
Is the original Die Hard a Christmas movie, or just an action film? I think Ryan explains it best here 42:58. Lots of Hallmark movie plots, just with a LOT less action.
One of those films that the Directorial changes made the film as well as casting Bruce was a stroke of luck as he does come across perfectly as an everyday man.
Actually knew about Frank Sinatra in The Detective before this video. I listen to Now Playing Podcast. It is a great movie review podcast where they review various film series. In depth discussions with plot summary, discussion, and recommendations or not. Been doing it for 15 years and I have been an avid listener for over 10 years. A long while back they did each of the Die Hard films. They started with The Detective. High recommend for the podcast. They got tons of stuff like everything Marvel.. from Hulk tv movies to Howard the Duck to Kraven the Hunter. DC stuff from Superman vs the Mole Men to Batman '66 to Justice League to Black Adam. Movies based on video games, movies baed on Stephen King novels stories.. even all 10+ Children of the Corn films. Reviews can't get hilarious at times. Lots of fun. Free shows every tuesday. No sponsors so no commercials. They rely on donors like me. Been donating for 10 years. Plus on fridays donors get bonus shows. Right now I am relistening to their donor series of M Night Shamylan films. Pure gold. Give the free shows a listen.
Sad how the franchise ended w/ that god awful Good Day entry. My personal fave will always be 2...loved the little self referential moments it had...it had the bad ass seat ejector scene, and the arguably established Yippie ki yay (also my fave use of Yippie ki yay)....as the final FU to the bad guys. in DH 1 it was a passing line, in DH2 it was the finale!
1 is a classic, 2 really good, 3 a lot of fun, 4 is an odd one I enjoyed but should have been its own thing and 5 I can bring myself to watch to not leave on a bad note 😂 and had thought about 6 being called Too Old to DieHard and it's the kids saving John and Holly who are being held hostage in Nakatomi at a retirement anniversary celebration or something. But wanted to mention one other tidbit of another potential shared universe that never came to be: DieHard/Lethal Weapon. Al Powell was potentially going to cameo or have Riggs/Murtaugh pass a desk and the camera linger on the desk of John McClane to tease a crossover after another LW film. But I believe the Mel Gibson meltdown made that impossible so it never came to be...
"Old Habits Die Hard" is a fantastic title for the sixth and final movie we'll probably never see.
A Die Hard video? A Surprise, to be sure, but a welcomed one.
Somehow Diehard Returned
What is this, some kind of Die Hard video?
I love the first three Die Hards, but holy shizz, I adore Die Hard With a Vengeance. For me, it's absolutely the highlight of that trilogy.
A 44 minutes video with no invasive Ads?
I tip my hat to you, guys.
Happy New Year.
The way you said Schwarzenegger in the beginning of the video was hilarious
and at the end lol
Doug at the end saying “Yippee-ki-yay moth…” and getting cut off made me laugh out loud here in the office. 😅😅😅😅
Loved this! Would love to see other classic deep dives!
Excellent video. Actually learned a few things I didn't know. Thank you sir.
What a wonderful surprise! 💞💓💞 I loved this awesome video. Great job as always❣ Wait for it.....
The ending made me laugh out loud & rewind.... So much love & blessings for a great 2025🎉🎊🎉
this was really awesome to watch. great to see the old series summarized. i'd watch more.
I really enjoyed this one! Thank you for your work on this!
Die Hard is one the iconic movie ever 🎉
I love this channel a lot, and this video has given me even more to love! All the best in the new year Screen Crush
This video arrived a week late 😭
Thank you for this excellent video we needed!! And for giving me several movies to watch 😊
I loved that you gave me soo many movies to watch 🙌🏽
My boyfriend and I watched all the movie recommendations this weekend! It was super fun! Thanks 😊

I had no idea that the DH2 villain also played the Reaper in Bill & Ted--thanks as always!
Awesome! Loved this! Thanks for putting it together!
Die Hard with a Vengeance is my personal favorite of the franchise!
Really nice stuff, thanks!
I just wanted all the Die Hards for Christmas! Good timing!
1 and 3 are the best and the Johnny comes marching home tune is epic. Jesus line is hilarious
36:51 Doug got me here.
I can’t believe you didn’t mention the Die Hard The Musical from Bob’s Burgers. Work Hard or Die Trying Girl!
I love these film game references.
Have you thought of doing any game film videos? Star Wars has some great games.
No mention of Jake Peralta & Brooklyn 99 :(
For real he’s a fan for a reason!
That was literally my reasons for clicking on this video
I love Kiefer Sutherland's 24, I wish they actually went on that route. It could've been a good movie for both franchise.
The best christmas movie ever made!
Die Hard 4 does have an R-Rated version, easy to track down
Oh please, it’s **barely** R-rated.
And us middle-aged guys remember him as the sheriff of Nottingham in Robinhood prince of thieves
Oh yes, I remember watching that when I went to the movies when I went to Odessa, Texas to see my family. I forgot all about that.
The fourth movie was indeed released as Die Hard 4.0 in Asia and Europe
In Australia it was called Die Hard 4.0 and not Live Free and Die Hard.
Great video; thanks 👍
I also seem to recall a Die Hard video game that released during the Playstation 1 era and featured an original story involving John McClain and his Daughter who in this continuity was a Rookie Police Officer.
Yes , it was originally a great arcade shooter , and one of the first really popular 1st person shooters
Just saw your “feud” with Heavy Spoilers!!! Hilarious!!🤣
Yeah
Damn, I didn´t know there were more issues of the comic book! I´ve got the first one when I went do the US years ago... gotta grab the others now
I saw masterminds before I saw die hard. It's such a an awesome movie. Patrick Stewart is having so much fun.
16 blocks reminds me of a Clint Eastwood movie the gauntlet
Nothing Lasts Forever is a very good book. I like to think of it as an Elseworlds Die Hard. And the fact that Frank Sinatra played Joe Leland is icing on the cake.
I speedran that Die Hard game in my Sega Saturn so much back in the day! :')

Thanks for the breakdown
What a great video.
I’ve always wondered if naming the villain HANS gruber was a meta Christmas tie-in nod to Franz Gruber, the German lyricist of Silent Night
the Bruno cartoon too😍
Argyle helped out aswell by crashing the limo
HERE FOR DIE HARD ARCADE! 🕹🙌
Doug..
with the “rain man” comment… 💀
I enjoy the films but so glad you touch on the video games that was based off the IP. SEGA knock it out the park with Die Hard Arcade & help sparked the dying “ Beat ‘em Up” genre during that time.
Wow...a crossover with 24, that would've been something.
Trying to save two ruined franchises lol
@sanchise06 I agree they were ruined, but well written...
Great video! Very well researched.. However, a few things were left out:
1. Die Hard 2 was originally pitched as a Commando 2 but Arnie turned it down, then it became a Die Hard 2... the Commando sequel makes sense as to why the villian was a Rogue Military Colonel...

When do we get the t-shirt of Doug as Bruce Willis saying Yippee-Kaya off Naktomi Tower?
You got a thumbs up just for putting this video out
Christmas Movie!!!
Great job guys!!!
Die hard 2 is underrated
What makes Die Hard a Christmas Movie but not Lethal Weapon?
That new Netflix movie called "Carry On" has the Die Hard 2 vibe all over it, just from the trailers anyway
It very much is an (inferior, but still watchable) addition to the series.
What a way to end the video 😂😂
"ACAB does not include John Mcclane" lol
16 blocks is really good

The comic book Die Hard: Year One from 2010 was really good. It's the story of McClane's rookie year in 1976. It would make a great movie.
8:39 Not only did John McClane get hurt in the movie, Bruce Willis lost a good chunk of his hearing because of scenes like this - the gunshots made such a loud noise.
It's just been confirmed to me I'm living in the wrong timeine...we could of had a die hard/24 crossover smh
Wow i never that!!! I love Larry Fishbourne hes dope. But i can't imagine "ANY1"else besides Sam Jackson playing JULES in Pulp Fictiom....le royale with cheese 😂😂

Die Hard should get the Indiana Jones game treatment
It was an arcade shooter and then on original Playstation if I recall. One of the oldest 1st person shooters I can think of.
Welcome to the party pal!
I was hoping the editor was going to cut in Michael Scott clip from the office when Ryan was talking about Die Hard 4.

Yes I’m a little biased with 4 but I do think it’s better than 2 and 5 by a lot - I could easily put 3 above it
4 as the second best? Naaaaah. 4 is the 4th best. First 3 DH's are the best.
Agreed!!! 💯💯💯

Welp, looks like I'll be adding Ricochet to my future Die Hard franchise marathons.
I'm so here for this video, thank you ScreenCrush!
I saw Die Hard 3 first, then Die Hard 1, then Die Hard 2.....all years apart...😂😂😂 I had to put the whole story together myself.

I will support this video till the day I die if it leaves out the fifth movie
A prequel Die Hard should star Joseph Gordon-Levitt. its right there.

The new Daisy Ridley movie Cleaner is HEAVILY inspired by Die Hard. The classic still has its impact to this very day!
Die Hard and 24 teamup would have been so very interesting. Willis and Sutherland.. yez.
With the amount of aspirin he takes in the 3rd movie for a single day it should've clinically been his last MF headache.... like ever lol
RIP Bruce Willis
except he's not dead?.... what are you achieving by achieving by posting that?

Fox Plaza was also used for AIRHEADS years later
For anyone too young to know that was Phil Hartman's impersonation of Frank Sinatra on Saturday night live
