Land of Talk - Quarry Hymns from Cloak and Cipher Order: bit.ly/2lRXY9G Directed by Joseph Yarmush and Produced by Petros Kolyvas. #landoftalk #saddlecreek
I remember being extremely depressed after a break up and being stuck in isolation for 23 days in a hotel. I spent my birthday, Christmas and new years alone in my hotel room sick. And i discovered this band through this song. Im alive because of it. And this song will forever play a mayor part in my life.
Heard this song about a month or two ago in a Crate & Barrel strangely before a bad snowstorm. There was something about the drumming along with the total mix that made me had to soundhound this. Glad I did. This group has such a unique and genuine sound. Wish more bands sounded like this. Reminds me of the Canadian compliment of the Scottish band, Camera Obsucra with a bit of a NoCal vibe or something. Truly groovy sounds. Wish y'all weren't on hiatus!
they're back! on tour in the US this summer. (and I completely agree with you about their music. I've played that record so many times-it's an all time favorite.)
Leave it on the hottest day To sink this quarry under What the murder on the pride would bring Lion, crow, your kingdom Loaded in the stone heart I couldn't keep the woods in you You had to learn about the hardest things The softest side would leave you How deep is this soul I feel I'm in? Seen a lot of light and done a lot with it How deep is this hole I feel I'm in? Seen a lot of light and done a lot with it In the least of the lighted Eyes was on a roll And the deep and the sweet hearth Couldn't keep the word in you You can draw it in and draw it back Pull the past behind you You wanna leave I got it back You can draw it in and draw it back How deep is this soul I feel I'm in? Seen a lot of light and done a lot with it How deep is this hole I feel I'm in? Seen a lot of light and done a lot with it Lately little love could call And get in my way Maybe we could draw this out Of our dark display How deep is this soul I feel I'm in? Seen a lot of light and done a lot with it How deep is this hole I feel I'm in? Seen a lot of light and done a lot with it
Normally if a song has a lot of views I write it off, I hate 99% things that are popular according to the critics... But I am quite pleased that this is getting known... People deserve good music :)
@doomslang Touche! I've loved them for years, finally got a chance to see them live at the Independent in San Francisco last year, had to circle the block for over an hour to find parking but SO worth it.. Liz's voice, wow!! And she's absolutely beautiful in person.
As you hear Elizabeth Powell sing the opening stanzas in that quavery, plaintive voice, you feel like giving her the world's biggest bear hug and telling her everything's going to be all right - only to find, as she ascends to those beatific, shimmering choruses ("How deep is this soul..."), that she's turned the tables in having found a hard-won consolation on her own - and is now telling *you* it's going to be all right... Check out the longer 5:45 versions at UA-cam and CBC Radio 3.
@johnfactorial Fantastic. Great stage presence. They've gotten better than any of their live clips you see on youtube. I met Elizabeth Powell and gave her one of my CDs :D
Theres a connection. I guess it is an opinion though, If you like this you might like Bright Eyes too by Saddle Creek records. I think Conor Oberst is actually the founder of Saddle Creek, hes the singer in Bright Eyes. What a voice! The guy knows how to sing/say a poem.
Eleven years later I rediscover this gem.. 💎💎!!!
always perfect timing , just happened to me too, now i'm relieving all their records, what a band, what a singer
Land of Talk forever, all of their songs have such a lasting quality.
honesty.
This band is so underrated it's unbelievable that this kind of talent can go unnoticed.
I agree 100%
Good thing Liz just loves to make music!

I could listen to this song every day. Thank you, Lizzie.
Put this song in a mixtape for some guy 10 years ago. Hope he's fine.
same.
You probably changed his life

Summer’ 16 you showed me this song on a night I no longer wanted to live. You may never ever know, but you saved my life. Thank you, Carlton

Their best song... Subjectively...
What a gorgeous song!!
thank god for Saddle Creek and all the perfection they expose me to.
