    My list would be:
The lower door trim lists that gathers rust
The breakshields for how hard they are to replace if they rust out as they tend to do.
The facelift E39 like mirrors for being ugly
The carpetning is very nice and sound isolating, but if water leak into the car, it takes forever to get the water out and the floor can rust a while before you even notice the carpet is humid!
The moonroof on some touring models, caused me loads of headaches in the past
The drainage for the sunroof/moonroofs, it does make jacking points a maintenance item in colder climates with salting.
Also I don't like the later years from the huge increase they had in wiring.
Also the 92/93 and later I hate the central looking system on, as they tended to need to get locked twice as they go bad and start going up and down.
And very last, not too related to the cars themselves, but more to the experience of buying them, its hard, as most E34s quickly can not he worth buying today, from how many people have treated them, not only through abuse of the drivetrain, but through poor jacking, lack of rust control and just not having cared well enough for them. Have to he said E34s at this point has in general had a lot of shitty, and most the time, younger owners, thats just ruined them.
Good E34s are getting very rare.
Have 2 early nice ones, and they are going no where.

I experienced every single thing you spoke about lol, I swapped mine to black interior, and came across many with the leaning seat! Oh and as someone else stated in the comments, the central locking system is weak. I kinda like having the battery in the trunk vs it being under the back seat. Beautiful cars though, timeless design IMO! Great VIdeo!

All US models came with the HiFi option. If you think it's trash, then you should listen to a European base model. I recently swapped in the HiFi option in my car, along with a decent head unit and a subwoofer it definitely satisfies all my needs.
Fold down rear seats is a rare option, I've seen it a few times in an E34. Maybe it's a European option, no idea.
I agree about the interior - I swapped my gray leather interior for a black one with sports seats. It looks so dope, all I'm missing is the black headliner.
I've had my E34 for over 5 years now, only thing that bothers me is that every year it's getting older and parts are slowly getting more expensive.

5:35 I have seen around three E34s with fold down seats in sedans, I know one were a later 93-95 model. Saw them in Norway, but could also been German import cars, as German cars are decently common to see here
Edit: biggest boxes I've fit in my normal E34 sedan is 180x30x15cm in the cabin laying on the flat driver seat and 70x60x40cm in the trunk, both were however a little tricky getting in and out

You're absolutely right about how shit the market is for these things these days. I can barely find them to begin with on FB marketplace, and when I do, it's a rusty parchment auto 525i with 250k miles. Finding a black interior or a touring is like hitting the jackpot. I've never even seen a 540i e34 on marketplace.

I'd like to make a little note/correction. You could order a sedan e34 with fold down rear seats. It is rare but an existing option. Trust me, it is a pain to have a fold down seat, because it is rare. The car is heavier, not as comfortable in the rear, if something breaks it is really hard to get stuff for it. All in all, yes you could have a rear fold down seat in an e34. Does it worth it!? No, because it is not a mass produced equipment. If it was more common then yes.

  • @vfrmaverick

My list after owning an e34 since 2007
    door rusting
Difficulty of finding parts, both stock and aftermarket. This wasn't the case in the past as junkyards were full of them but now they're gone.
Non adjustable rear alignment. Yea there's aftermarket solutions (I use one of them) but damn that job sucks. If you don't have the space to drop the rear end its even worse.
non low friendly, and even if its laying frame the body lines make it seem like its not as low as it is. plus the whole spindle coiler thing
Backing up sucks. visibility isn't great and the distance from glass to the end of the bumper is huge.
weird seat brackets. means you have to drop big bucks for rails on aftermarket seats. And lets be real the normal seats suck if you like corners. and these are surprisingly capable cars on track. especially for drifting.

I am the original owner of an Icelandic green with gray interior 1990 manual transmission E34 525-purchased in Germany through the Canadian PX when I was stationed there. I recently had a rebuilt engine installed at 298,000 miles. My nitnoys include: console gauges going crazy in cold weather (I eventually found a place in Atlanta that repairs instrument clusters) and door panels delaminating (had them recovered in leather and repaired locally). The door trim did rust, but not the doors. I love the car as my late wife and I had a blast driving it in Germany: top speed is 135 mph, and if one drives sane speeds, gets over 30 mpg. Didn’t have to, but just put $8,000 into it as I will probably drive the car until my end. I plan to put a turbo in it-would be fun. I installed a series of Kenwood stereo systems in it as technology changed and added a few amps to the ten speaker system. I think it sounds great, especially in 1990. With my wife driving, made 500 miles in five hours with one gas stop (autobahn). She was a hoot! At that speed, the quality of the car shown through: rock solid, great handling, minimal wind noise so could listen to the stereo at a reasonable volume.

Get a sump guard, aftermarket ones are available for not much (the factory versions can't be found), worth considering on lowered e30/34s. The best advice I was ever given for buying older BMWs was buy the best one you can find, not the best one you can afford, especially with regards to bodywork and interior. The door corrosion must be a rust belt issue, I have 3 e34s and not a speck of rust on any of them, but we almost never get enough snow for road salt to be needed.

Just to correct you, "3 issue" - E34s are not fabric made to drive "low" so it is your personal problem by making unauthorized modification. Rust on the door edges? Issue caused by engineering for decades ago and well know even today, Yes it was an serial issue. But if you know the fact that the moister is held in that areas why you simply dont fix this problem? Investing energy to make the car low and do not solve this issue is ok for you?

Being a skier, I have looked for the backseat passthrough to the trunk. It was implemented specifically for skies and was available in Canada but not for US models. As most of the surviving 30 yr old cars are found in southern latitudes (rust from salted roads of the North) and salvage yards don't maintain much old model inventory , it would be hard to find a seat back in Canada.

I’m proud to say I have 2 perfectly functioning factory stereos and clocks in mine. But that early 90s muffling of the high notes BMW just cut out (because they couldn’t figure out the electronics interference issues with those frequencies) is definitely a negative. Their power, though, was actually way better than E38 and E39 units. Now those REALLY suck. And then also have pixels that don’t last for shit.
The Euro M5s factory RdS model is really a great sounding unit. Lots of power and clear as a bell 👍
The headliner is a thing that’s annoying 😂
The electrical signals/notifications you’ve mentioned in other vids is a thing to be annoyed by too. I hate all those false warnings. I think if I put a dollar in a jar every time my cars had a signal, and took one out whenever they didn’t…I’d end up with an empty jar in a year. Imma have to try that out 😄
In general they’re just fantastic cars that can do everything, though. I have all the chassis of BMWs E31-E36 and the E34 is the center of my collection. I have an E23 and E24 too because they’re just awesome but not gonna be regular drivers. I have no interest in an E30 because they’re just ruined by an E34. Less comfort, room, power, strength…Everything but nimble handling, I suppose. But every owner of one whom I know kind of hates driving their E30. That tells me something.

    1. Front shocks are replaceable and the inserts are still sold oem new and you don't have to pull the whole thing. Just people don't bother at all to do it. Same with E32. On E36 it is not. 2. The fold down seat is called S465A Through-loading system option on E34/E36/E39 sedans. Just yours don't have it. About the interior, its exactly you guys in the US who ordered shitload of gold over parchment E32/E34. They are overwhelming majority over the same spec cars in Europe. I don't know if its this car or you've removed it but you seem to miss all the trim for the oil pan down there which gives it that protection. Again, there is a factory option with a metal grill to protect it in bad terrain. I agree on the door trim, the moment it removed it, stopped rusting out. You have M parts, Schnitzer (3.7 S5 Silouette), Hartge (H5 V12), Alpina (B10 Biturbo and 3.0 M50 4x4 including the late V8s), Racing Dynamics offered and still offers chips and whatnot for them. I really don't get what do you mean by not a lot of aftermarket support. Yes, not every 2nd E34 is with M technik or M5 bumpers which for me really preserves the exclusivity and rarity of the kit. The factory Aero kit is also quite rare. visually you have all the above plus Zender. I am really done with all the E36/E39s in M trim with no one actually putting a bit of a thought to do something different.

    • @m3nameisjosh464
      @m3nameisjosh464  2 роки тому

Bring up a valid point mentioning all those brands which make, or should I say made parts for these cars. Schnitzer, hartge, alpina, dinan parts haven’t been manufactured in decades. They are extremely rare which makes it cool and exclusive, but doesn’t qualify as aftermarket support. You can’t buy those modifications new, they aren’t widely available. Whereas there are many companies making aftermarket parts currently for other chassis in comparison

    • @alexmercer8042
      @alexmercer8042 2 роки тому

@@m3nameisjosh464 It's a 30 year old car which was until recently basically worthless. Its past the 10-15 year old craze for tuning and racing. ccccAlpina and RD do offer brand new parts still for them. Must admit that I am really not familiar with how much aftermarket do you have over there reagarding sport suspension, bushings ect. In Europe you can get basically anything in regards to mods including fiberglass/carbon everything, turbo kits, custom rods, pistons ect ect. There is even a quite pricey ITB kit if you can't get the M5 one. Can't post a link but search for "BMW M5 E34 Race Car || 334Hp/1180Kg" here in youtube for what it can do even with a stock engine. It doesn't lack support but it costs quite a bit more than E36 or E39 bits, yes.

Regarding the rust same is with the sills. Design failure in drainage will get them clogged easily and they will rust away even faster than the door. And front shock actually can be replaced, there is a bolt nut that holds it in place on the top of strut housing but most of the time its too rusted so you have to cut it either way. And cupholders was really a downside but in these times you can get 3D printed ones for ~20$.
