The first time I heard Courtney Marie was this occasion a few years back (on Jools Holland). I play the 'Honest Life' CD in the car all the time these days.
Well done Jools for having Courtney Marie on your show , liked her instantly and booked tickets to see her in Whelans Dublin 29 August, beautiful voice, great lyrics, unspoiled talent hope she makes it big in the future
Absolutely brilliant,I loved her so much straight away,I booked to see her in Manchester in August. She sounds fresh but with a maturity that anyone can relate to her voice and lyrics, like she's already lived.Great stuff, exciting n excited to see her live.xxxx
Love Courtneys voice and songwritting :) and I have had the great pleasure of sharing the stage with the amazing Pedal Steel Guitarist BJ Cole at the Maverick Country Music Festival 2016 xx
one of the great modern acts and there are many (eg Low, LP, Agnes Obel, Daughter, The Kills, Lisa gerrard, bat for lashes , PJ Harvey, The National , Rhodes etc etc !)
Probably the best song of the year . Humble , poignant and beautiful. The singer`s voice complements the song superbly. I can`t sing, nor play an instrument. In fact, I am pretty well useless but I can spot quality.
This was the second of two songs on Later...with Jools Holland this week (14 April 2017). Earlier in the show she had performed 'Honest Life' which really ticked my box! Slide guitar and Jools himself on piano - what a performance! Magnificent! I'll certainly be keeping my eyes open for this lady.
Just want to say thanks for identifying the guy on pedal steel. He's absolutely brilliant. I've not been aware of him, yet he's been around forever. Almost as long as Lloyd green.

Hopefully someone a lot more digital savvy than me was able to download it. Best wishes, hope you find it in time.
You might be able to catch it here if you hurry - although I hope someone has downloaded the performance. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08mkmvs/later-with-jools-holland-series-50-episode-1
Why is she so close to the mic? I can understand it with a full band because since the 70s, a total mental block in stage sound engineering (pushing all the instruments to the limit) has resulted in full band singers having to near swallow the mic to be able to be heard. Surely they didn't do it here? With just 1 acoustic and a pedal steel?
A joy to watch this again years later. I just wish she was more widely appreciated
same
She is why I’m still on this planet.
She is amazing. 💗 2 all.

The Glastonbury Ferryman - how wonderful for her to have Jools Holland and B J Cole as her backing band !

Did they make a video from that one as well ?

Brilliant
Lovely
coruscating track !
Brilliant performance. Nice just with a pedal steel guitar backing, rather than a full band.
What is the name of the instrument the guy is playing??
That be a pedal steel guitar, beautiful sound, enjoy, ireland
