I really appreciate you sharing my content with others Helen! It means a lot to know my advice is making an impact, our goal was always to inspire and empower people to grow their own!
I admire your dedication and commitment to growing all year round. You give me the inspiration to keep getting better at growing further into each year and therefore I still have some food to eat from my plot into mid to late January 🥰👍😄
Thank you so much for your kind words! It's amazing to hear that you're inspired to keep improving your gardening skills. Keep up the great work, and enjoy your fresh produce!
I don't have as much space as you so there's a limit on some of the veg i can grow. Still do pretty well in steering clear of the supermarkets and that's thanks mainly to crops like Taunton Dean Kale, Asturian Tree Cabbage, Jerusalem Artichokes, Tromboncino Squash, Greek Gigantes & Czar Beans and Yacon. All tend to produce a good volume for the space, so i'd recommend any of these for smaller gardens.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s inspiring to see how you’re thriving with limited space. Your recommendations are super helpful for anyone looking to grow more in less!
Hello, the arch has worked really well for us and save space in the plots where we used to grow peas and beans. There is a video on our channel of how we built the arch ua-cam.com/video/jEaeFeNIYr4/v-deo.html. Everything you need to know is there - thanks for watching!
Came across your channel for the 1st time - Now a new subscriber! Fantastic! Really enjoyed this video and has provided inspiration to get the succession sowing brought up the priority list for the tasks to get done this forthcoming weekend. Really love the no dig method which I switched to a few years ago. Keep up the great work.
I'm going to watch that video again. So much info packed in. Your leeks and parsnips were not covered in the video and I wondered if I need to have mine covered as they are right now. The only crop I grow that you didn't mention is Borlotti Beans. We grow these every year and dry them for eating in the winter. We have cooked Mrs W's chilli jam recipe 3 times and plan to do so again with a monster batch from this years harvest. It goes with so many things.
Hi Ken, I covered the onions earlier in the year but left the Globo and Zebrune shallots uncovered. The uncovered onions were fine so I decided to see what happens with the leeks. I am hoping we have broken the cycle of the the leaf minor - just experimenting! If leaf miner is known in your area do keep them covered. As for parsnips I have not found the need to cover those, they can suffer from carrot root fly but I haven't known it here before. Belotti beans are amazing and I should grow them again so thanks for reminding me of those. I am so glad you have found the chilli jam a hit, I know Mrs W is making a batch this weekend!
Great video Mr & Mrs W! Can I ask where you get your mesh from please? Brassica beds look a great height and my current supplier is very expensive for large sizes (well I think so anyway)
Thanks for watching Clive! I have left a link in the description, just click on i. It can be purchased in various sizes. It’s great for keeping those pesky critters away while still allowing good airflow!
Very impressive broccoli side shoot harvest. I'm getting some smaller ones from plants that produced back in May but nothing like you're getting. I did see a purple cauliflower ready to pick today. Not huge but at least I'm getting some brassicas again now that the heat has gone away. Next month I'll start picking sprouts.
Thank you Frank! It sounds like your garden is still producing some great veggies. Purple cauliflower is always a fun surprise and great looking, and those sprouts will be delicious next month - enjoy my friend!
Great video, I've got onions seedling, waiting for the to be slightly taller. Might put some in the greenhouse this year. I've got lots of brassica going on. Plus carrot seedling yay. I've done lettuce and some spring flowers. I love growing sweet pea so I've done them as well. Busy busy busy lol
Hiya Barry ,was just looking back at some of your early video's ,and boy have you improved your channel ,I was looking how and when to start broad beans ,--- keep up the grow along's please .
Thanks Barry for taking the time to look back at my earlier videos! I'm glad you noticed the improvements. Broad beans are a great choice-I'll definitely keep the grow-alongs coming, it won't be long until we sow the beans!
IGreat video and very informative to those new to no dig gardening. As you know I am no dig both at my home kitchen garden and my allotment. My purple sprouting broccoli cropped right through to the end of July, likewise the Marathon calabrese sown in February, I am still cutting cabbage sown last August and have been lucky to still hve squash stored from last year- staying very healthy in my store room. Enjoyed a sweet dumpling last weekend and still have butternut, mashed potato and spaghetti squash still to eat. I don't have many squash/ pumpkins this year. I pu them out late due to the cold, wet weather, and I am surprised they have manged to grow any fruit at all. My problem is with storing apples- I am not very good with them so I end up freezing most of the cookers and also the pears. The dessert apples I give away or take them to the local food bank. Although I may try de-hydrating them in my Ninja air fryer. I eventually got a carrot crop but oh how I struggled to get them going earlier this year, as you know, lol. You are so lucky not to have to cover your leeks. Allium leek miner arrived here in Wiltshire, last year and so I've had to insect mesh them for the first time- such a nuisance. It feels like the gardener today has to protect more and more of their crops. I am freezing beans and also making chutneys. I dry my chillies and keep them in a glass storage jar. I have lots of winter salads sown to grow on, under cover, in the winter in washing up bowls with holes drilled for drainage. I did that last year and we had salad all through the Winter. I am growing Claytonia, Lambs lettuce, golden purslane, Mizuna, komatsuna, red kale, spring onion, winter density lettuce, rocket and radish. Happy gardening 🙂
I really appreciate your kind words about the video! It’s always inspiring to hear how others are thriving in their gardens. Your success with the purple sprouting broccoli and winter salads is fantastic. It's amazing your cabbages from last year haven't tried to flower! We freeze apples and find that a good method for storage. Great tip about the washing up bowls, great update thank you!
I’ve sown 5 lots of carrots from different pack and different types, nothing has come to life this year. Annoying to say the least. But the parsnips this year look good. But last year I didn’t get any. Hopefully they will be ok.
I had the same issue, but I sowed carrot 3 weeks ago, and i went out every day and water them gentle. And I got carrot seedling but U have to go out every night to stop the slugs and snails they love carrot seedling lol 😂
Gardening can be so unpredictable! It's great to hear your parsnips are thriving this year. Maybe try a different seed supplier for your carrots, old seed doesn't germinate well!
Try watering the drill before sowing and not after. Try to keep growing areas clear for slugs and snails to hide, fingers crossed they can get away now!
Hi Neil, potatoes planted now for Christmas work really well, we have videos on our channel where we have demonstrated this. What I am working on is having potatoes growing all year round, so stay tuned for those videos!
Dear Mrs W I love watching your videos. Please could you let me know how you freeze your beetroot as I am interested in doing this to mine. Many thanks Clare
Hi Clare! I'm so glad you enjoy my videos! Freezing beetroot is quite simple. Just cook them first, I usually roast them first whole, but you could boil them, remove skins and chop into chunks. Let them cool and freeze them on a tray so they are not all stuck together, before putting into airtight containers or freezer bags. Happy freezing!
All of your plants look bigger then mine as we did the grow along and they got to a good size and bam over a week the catterpillers got them. Annoying things. And I killed so many.
I totally understand your frustration! Caterpillars can be such a nuisance. Remember, every gardener faces challenges like this, but keeping them covered and the leaving no gaps at soil level pays off. Keep trying, and your plants will amazing!
@@nodignorfolkgardener4575 I’m doing it coz I enjoy it. But I was annoyed when they ate everything but the broccoli, obviously didn’t like this type. Lol So we have sown more as I did like the purple sprouting broccoli I had early this year. So can only try. Atm they tiny but still gonna try. Just may be later then your early ones, same type.

Will you be growing any garlic in your greenhouse or polytunnel this winter?
