An excerpt from the film The Sandpiper (1965). Perhaps a forgettable film by the duo Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, this bit of soliloquy by Burton is remarkable. It is a perfect example of the power that Burton had with his voice, with his delivery and diction. Also, the actual text is quite lovely.
In his role as Dr. Rev. Edward Hewitt, a school headmaster, Richard Burton resigns as a result of his adulterous relationship with one of his pupil's mother (Elizabeth Taylor) which deeply touches both his wife and his lover.

Once it was said Richard Burton could make reading a dictionary sound interesting ... one wonders had he chosen career over his obsession with Elizabeth Taylor ... would the World have seen him differently ... still, it is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all !
