Thanks for this, I was thinking about making one for tomorrows gig until I saw how much work was involved. Most of these types of stands have separators at the top so the guitars don't crash into one another.
watch a couple of your vids, super impressed and really glad thst u take the time to be accurate with your instructions instead of assuming everyone's an expert. super cool design, can't wait to try my hand.
You do a great job of explaining things briefly and succinctly. Think this is gonna be a subscribe for me.
I built mine using these plans and it came out perfect. It holds an acoustic and up to two electrics and that was just what I needed....thanks for the plans!
Very nice dude. My grandpa is a carpenter. I'll make one soon. Thanks a million for the inspiration!
Absolutely nice!
Thanks for the video. Great design. I built this, but made a few tweaks. 1. Red oak vs. plywood (struggled with tear out on ply), 2. Taller (33” tall and longer floor stretchers), 3. Countersunk screws and wood plugs vs t nuts, 4. Pocket holes for cross pieces. Overall turned out great. Nephew loved it.
Wow Dude! Beautiful design!
What scale/size should the plans be printed at?...Have all the materials and tools now, just want to make sure I print the plans out at the right size before I start cutting any timber! Can't wait to tackle this one...
What a great looking piece, cunningly designed and crafted. Also, thanks for the tool substitution tips ("Here I'm using a Nuclear Slapometer, but you can get the same effect with a roll of masking tape and some wing nuts.")
Awesome Stand...⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🎸
Made this stand came out great. Used maple wood with felt from woodcraft and rubber feet. So it won’t scratch floor. Increased size by 4 inches so it would accommodate 2 electric and 1 acoustic. Thanks
perfect! i have and idea. u inspired me thanks, amazing job
Great look. I agree on the plugs.
+Dan @ The Robbins Workshop Thanks Dan!
This is great. I was looking for a simple solution to fit two guitars inside a closet and this will do it! Gonna ask a local carpenter friend of mine to make it. Thanks!
genial...saludos desde colombia
Once again Craig. a simple and direct video for most do-it-yourself aficionados. It is refreshing to view a very useful project in terms and video's that most anyone can understand. Sorry your Toby did not get more involved!
+Edward Grant Thanks Ed! Tobey was taking a break from his movie star status.
gostei do projeto vou tentar fazer também
I made an exact same thing with your model of poplar. Thank you.
Thanks for this video !
Very neat! Would love if this was on Amazon because I don’t have all your tools 🙈
I made 2 of them, one for 3 guitars and the other for 6 guitars. I made a wooden separator for the top to keep the instruments from hitting each other. The bass has felt to keep from scratches.
Got pics by any chance? I'd like to see the separator.
Beautiful!
Regards from Brazil!
Thanks!
Great design!
+Speedy's Woodshed THANKS!!!
All your stuff is brilliant. Great exuses to buy new power tools.
This looks great! Where can I find a pdf of the plans?
Tnx for sharing it bro!!! :D
Thank you man!!! this is just what i need!
+FrozenTideTV Cool! Thanks for watching and check out our website for the plan: www.diy-modern.com/?page_id=16
Well done :)
Very impressive.
Thanks Molly!
Liked for the cool and modern guitar design. Subscribed for Toby the Pug! Do you have a design for exotic guitars (Flying V, Explorer)? I have a large guitar collection and some just don't fit on standard guitar stands.
Looks nice.
+Bruce A. Ulrich Thanks Bruce!!!
do you have any stand plans for tight spaces?
Genial, muchas gracias por le pdf
Good job. The only thing I would recommend is putting in dividers of two circular pegs wrapped in foam.
Great one sir.
Thanks!
Great video, thanks! I love that design. (Only thing I would add is a cleat or dip in the wood of some sort on the top piece where the necks rest, so that the guitars wouldn't fall forward or backward and clunk into each other.)
Thanks! Yeah, some sort of separators would be good for that.
That's sweet! Maybe add some dividers but aside from that its perfect.
Thanks John
Nice stand, I like the background music too... Who's the composer? Sounds a lot like me :)
What about a bigger one for more instruments?
Will stay stand?
Is that a Fender Musicmaster bass? if so, you're the second person I've ever seen to have one of those with myself being the first. that's a great bass
Nice build. I already have 2 store bought 7 rack guitar stands, but this looks nicer. May give it a shot when I finish the 10,000 other projects I have going. My wife won't be happy if I start another project while in the middle of refinishing the bedroom furniture.
Awesome! Hope you get around to it! Thanks for the nice comment.
lol I was supposed to build a dining room table a month ago but I'm going to start this tonight. The wood for the table is sitting in the dining room...
lol I keep telling her that the moisture needs to reach equilibrium with the room =P
Awesome channel!!! Keep it coming!!
+Arken Cold Thanks for the nice comments Arken!!!!!
+Arken Cold Thanks Arken!
might make something like this for 1-2 guitars just out of copper pipe and sheet metal :P
You need to be using a push stick when using the bandsaw - if you value your fingers
Ellerine sağlık. 👏👏👏👍
Wow, very nice, but i would like to know how to build an stand for diferent guitar body like "star" "flying V" " Explorer"
Without the neck slots that most stands have there is much more of a chance the guitars will knock together either taking the guitar from the rack or putting it back... Looks nice though.
I did some research into various designs online and yours is by far the best. How do you print out the PDF plan to full scale?
I just made this you can print it out on 8× 11 regular paper. I trimmed the sheets to align them then put a layer of packaging tape over it all before cutting it out. Worked great.
pembuatanya rapi...
ho great i will make it
amazing how you did all that on just 5:52 😉
how do you print the template of the PDF? hum
Please post the project in the international measurement system.
Keep your guitars in their cases, unless you want dents, dings, nicks , scratches, dust and rust. Great stand for gigs not for storing.
careful, that foam might interact with nitro paint on some guitars.
That said, this is pretty nice dude! Very well done.
+JgHaverty Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep an eye on the Tele (it has nitro finish) and post if there's any interaction.
DIY Modern
Sure thing, though theres plenty of information online about this kind of interaction.
have you noticed any balancing issues with this stand? Think it can handle more than 3 with the same design?
+JgHaverty The stand is rock solid. I'm sure it could be made to accommodate more than 3 guitars. I would assume there would be a limit to the length, but I could easily see it being twice as long with no issues.
DIY Modern
haha thanks for understanding what i meant. Soon as I hit "post" I was like "crap, that may not come out right" lol
I think I'll make it wide and make a brace i can attach to the wall. That way it wont be able to tip or anything no matter what lol
+JgHaverty Awesome. Send us a pic when you're done. I'll post it. Thanks!
You can put something between the guitar necks just to avoid hitting each other
Very nice! I sub'd!
Thanks!
Could use cork, or the same material as gig bags (nylon) as padding. maybe even some felt?
Those are all GREAT ideas... thanks!!!
+DIY Modern I would just like to add that I think that stand is much nicer and more stylish than any commercially available stand I've seen. I'll probably be making a crude attempt at making a similar model (neck supported by front end of the guitar as in your design), but as others mentioned adding a divider between each guitar (e.g. felt padded blocks)
+Harninder 1 when I said crude I meant because I only have hand tools to hand!!
Thanks... go for it! I hope it works out for you. Yeah, my guitars bang against each other every once in a while, but I'm ok with it... looks like they are played more that way ;-)
+DIY Modern ok finally made it. Turned out to be 44cm X 18mm timber, made a '7' shape, added neck rest support with the same timber. little dividing blocks made of the same timber filed and sanded. double layer of felt glued on with PVA on all contact points.
Nice guitars! Is that first red one a PRS?
+of Nature Also some great woodsmanship.
+of Nature Thank you!!! Unfortunately not... it's an Ibanez. Maybe someday a PRS. ;-)
Thanks. I went to your sight I don't see a download for this project.
HI Joe,
It's in the "PLANS & TEMPLATES" section. Thanks
Not real fond of the Ikea look but great idea! I play acoustics mostly so I made a little wider version and used 1 inch dowels for the cross pieces. Wrapped them in 1/4" felt and it works great. Just used Danish Oil on the frame so no chance of chemical interaction. Thanks for the idea and keep up the good work.
Cool... thanks
Bello bello bello ma mi piacerebbe o meglio nel mio caso metterei 4 ruote.. Giusto x agevolare le pulizie domestiche.. Cmq bello davvero.. Grazie! ❤
Is it possible for guitars to knock each other on this stand? I'm curious because there seems to be nothing acting as a divider
+cat6oo Yes, they can. I just try to be careful when I put them up... actually, I'm not too concerned about them, as I'm constantly knocking them around by accident anyway. I used to baby my guitars and try and keep them scratch free, but I kind of like little dings on my instruments-- makes me feel like I play more than I do. ;-)
+DIY Modern Ok thanks for the clarification. I might try putting some dividers just for the necks. Great looking project btw and thank you for the quick reply
+cat6oo Cool! If you do build something, let me know and I'll put your pic on our web site!
i always wonder if this kind of stand warps the guitar necks 🤔
Yep. I built 2 of them and 5 out of my 6 guitar necks warped like pickled hog knuckles in a jar of vinegar.
DIY Modern porfaaaaaaa me pasa los planos, noldes, planilla es que no me carga la página porfaaaaaa
Site is up now. Thanks
Love,Thank you
fun fact: I had the same red ibanez guitar few years ago
Pucha compa, hagase famoso y ponga las medidas
does it work with basses?
Keep you guitars in their case.
So, I made one of these. Had enough fun I had to make an extended version. Thanks, I loved this design and idea.
You can see my results here - ua-cam.com/video/loFphk7kN3c/v-deo.html
Fantastic!!!! Very Cool!!!
Bom dia! Pra mim é uma honra viu prestigiar seu trabalho, vamos sempre juntos somar e fortalecer nossos objetivos, Conto com você, eu já estou por aqui,
0:48 yeah but i don't want it falling into place
gracias por la idea. Es perfecto. Realicé cambios para adaptarme a lo que tenía en casa. Para ver resultado pin.it/751rOkL
Builders beware that foam will kill your guitars if they have nitrocellulose finishes
"I used a hammer, but if you don't have a hammer, just use your the box from your wife's make-up kit"
The foam on the back bottom rest isn't protecting the guitars much. Some foams deteriorate and can damage the guitars' finish. Nice stand tho!!
This and that, theyre really not necessary but im using them 🙄
WARNING!! WARNING!! Great design BUT! the rubber used may damage your guitar finish over time..The rubber may chemically react with the finish on your guitar!.. This has been a known problem for many years.. Good quality pro stands use a rubber that has been selected and tested not to react with your guitars finish! This home made stand could end up costing you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in lost value on your guitars....
Why not felt instead of rubber or foam?
That would work great... good idea.
Thanks... I'm not too concerned about it actually. My instruments already have many nicks and scars from playing... however, I realize many do take better care of their guitars and have much more valuable axes that I do. For those of you who are contemplating making something like this stand, I would research the kind of foam or felt (Thanks Mark M) you use if you are worried about it reacting to the finish on your guitars. In a year, I'll do an update on this to see if anything has broken down... so far so good.
Depends on the finish type. Poly is safe, nitro is sensitive to some material. Felt is the safest option.
Thanks for the input!
Check out the Stodoys plans if you want to make it better.
This looks like a lot of work...:( Not to mention, the tools and equipment and the experience and skills that you have to put in to this project...Nuh ! Thanks, anyway...I'll just save some money and get me some ready-to-use guitar stand, save me some work and maybe even back pain, and that scary saw slicing up my fingers...!...:(
Thanks... good luck
While you're at it, why learn to play guitar and make music? Better and easier to buy music already made and save yourself the trouble. /S
Am I the only one concerned about the guitar arm bending over time??? You should never support a guitar in a slanted position supported by it's arm, that's guitar 101
