    Once again Craig. a simple and direct video for most do-it-yourself aficionados. It is refreshing to view a very useful project in terms and video's that most anyone can understand. Sorry your Toby did not get more involved!

    Thanks for the video. Great design. I built this, but made a few tweaks. 1. Red oak vs. plywood (struggled with tear out on ply), 2. Taller (33” tall and longer floor stretchers), 3. Countersunk screws and wood plugs vs t nuts, 4. Pocket holes for cross pieces. Overall turned out great. Nephew loved it.

    I built mine using these plans and it came out perfect. It holds an acoustic and up to two electrics and that was just what I needed....thanks for the plans!

    Thanks for this, I was thinking about making one for tomorrows gig until I saw how much work was involved. Most of these types of stands have separators at the top so the guitars don't crash into one another.

      That’s one thing I would consider doing with this design- probably 3/4” dowel rod cut into 3” pieces and secure them with a screw through the back of the upper piece the guitar necks rest on

    What a great looking piece, cunningly designed and crafted. Also, thanks for the tool substitution tips ("Here I'm using a Nuclear Slapometer, but you can get the same effect with a roll of masking tape and some wing nuts.")

    Made this stand came out great. Used maple wood with felt from woodcraft and rubber feet. So it won’t scratch floor. Increased size by 4 inches so it would accommodate 2 electric and 1 acoustic. Thanks

    Nice build. I already have 2 store bought 7 rack guitar stands, but this looks nicer. May give it a shot when I finish the 10,000 other projects I have going. My wife won't be happy if I start another project while in the middle of refinishing the bedroom furniture.

    I made 2 of them, one for 3 guitars and the other for 6 guitars. I made a wooden separator for the top to keep the instruments from hitting each other. The bass has felt to keep from scratches.

      I just made this you can print it out on 8× 11 regular paper. I trimmed the sheets to align them then put a layer of packaging tape over it all before cutting it out. Worked great.

    Great video, thanks! I love that design. (Only thing I would add is a cleat or dip in the wood of some sort on the top piece where the necks rest, so that the guitars wouldn't fall forward or backward and clunk into each other.)

    • @DIYModernTwins
      @DIYModernTwins  8 років тому

    Liked for the cool and modern guitar design. Subscribed for Toby the Pug! Do you have a design for exotic guitars (Flying V, Explorer)? I have a large guitar collection and some just don't fit on standard guitar stands.

    Without the neck slots that most stands have there is much more of a chance the guitars will knock together either taking the guitar from the rack or putting it back... Looks nice though.

  • @JgHaverty
    @JgHaverty 8 років тому +20

    careful, that foam might interact with nitro paint on some guitars.
    That said, this is pretty nice dude! Very well done.

    • @DIYModernTwins
      @DIYModernTwins  8 років тому

      +JgHaverty Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep an eye on the Tele (it has nitro finish) and post if there's any interaction.

    • @JgHaverty
      @JgHaverty 8 років тому +1

      DIY Modern
      Sure thing, though theres plenty of information online about this kind of interaction.
      have you noticed any balancing issues with this stand? Think it can handle more than 3 with the same design?

    • @DIYModernTwins
      @DIYModernTwins  8 років тому

      +JgHaverty The stand is rock solid. I'm sure it could be made to accommodate more than 3 guitars. I would assume there would be a limit to the length, but I could easily see it being twice as long with no issues.

    • @JgHaverty

      haha thanks for understanding what i meant. Soon as I hit "post" I was like "crap, that may not come out right" lol
      I think I'll make it wide and make a brace i can attach to the wall. That way it wont be able to tip or anything no matter what lol

    Is it possible for guitars to knock each other on this stand? I'm curious because there seems to be nothing acting as a divider

    • @DIYModernTwins
      @DIYModernTwins  8 років тому +1

      +cat6oo Yes, they can. I just try to be careful when I put them up... actually, I'm not too concerned about them, as I'm constantly knocking them around by accident anyway. I used to baby my guitars and try and keep them scratch free, but I kind of like little dings on my instruments-- makes me feel like I play more than I do. ;-)

    Not real fond of the Ikea look but great idea! I play acoustics mostly so I made a little wider version and used 1 inch dowels for the cross pieces. Wrapped them in 1/4" felt and it works great. Just used Danish Oil on the frame so no chance of chemical interaction. Thanks for the idea and keep up the good work.

    WARNING!! WARNING!! Great design BUT! the rubber used may damage your guitar finish over time..The rubber may chemically react with the finish on your guitar!.. This has been a known problem for many years.. Good quality pro stands use a rubber that has been selected and tested not to react with your guitars finish! This home made stand could end up costing you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in lost value on your guitars....

    • @TheOsfania

    • @DIYModernTwins
      @DIYModernTwins  8 років тому +1

      Thanks... I'm not too concerned about it actually. My instruments already have many nicks and scars from playing... however, I realize many do take better care of their guitars and have much more valuable axes that I do. For those of you who are contemplating making something like this stand, I would research the kind of foam or felt (Thanks Mark M) you use if you are worried about it reacting to the finish on your guitars. In a year, I'll do an update on this to see if anything has broken down... so far so good.

    • @guitarwhores753
      @guitarwhores753 8 років тому

      Depends on the finish type. Poly is safe, nitro is sensitive to some material. Felt is the safest option.

    Am I the only one concerned about the guitar arm bending over time??? You should never support a guitar in a slanted position supported by it's arm, that's guitar 101
