Those of us privileged enough to witness this transcendent performance live will never forget its emotional impact. Thanks so much for uploading, and allowing us to savour Sarah Connolly's consummate artistry, integrity and committed performance again. I cannot imagine anybody surpassing this interpretation of the aria.
@@themaurice7082 what you can say about her emotional manner's of singing, about how she interpretated suffers through all centuries of human being's and passions, which same peoples so full, same so poor, how high spirit suffer or glad to be inside our bodies, our words, how he suffer without us? One of my very favourite arias sung by one of my very favourite mezzos. So uplifting during this awful lockdown. Crying with joy......thank you dear Sarah.
OMG, the feeling, the performance, the unison between the feeling of the singing and the music! This opened in 1735?!?!?! OMG I was born in 1984 and because of technology of my time, and the learning and discipline throughout the ages by scholars, musicians, singers, etc etc this music was passed on to me - a simple son of middle class laborers... I cannot be grateful enough, no matter how long I live!
This is a very deep and beautiful performance. I’m looking forward to seeing other artists in the role, with no competitive or cheap spirit. I’m sure I’ll love other performances, too, and I’ll treasure this one with the rest.
Luv Ariodante ! And this aria steals all ! Wonderful to hear Bartoli,Connolly ,Donato,,Janet Baker and so many others in this . I can't believe theyre was a time when I used to read about music and think I'd die before I ever saw a recording by contemporary composers or little heard Handel operas !
Fantastic! And not just the voice, but the acting. The trembling of the hands, the facial expressions, the vocal soaring from those prone positions - and the voice just soars!
The perfect example of a suicidal aria in da capo form. A heartbreakingly beautiful 12 minutes or so; what a singer, what an actress. Thank you so much for uploading it.
Watching again Sarah's sublime performance. I'm overwhelmed by how she always totally inhabits a role. We are so blessed to have her singing for us. Thank you Sarah for allowing us see you in one of my favourite arias of beloved Handel.
Really appreciated the translation subtitles. Very moving performance. Acting superb. Liked the movement levels : she is very fit with fantastic support for the voice.
There is something about her voice that touches my soul. Some voices do that. This is one. Some make me put my fingers in my ears. I have a particular sound I like - pure, clear no screech and not much vibrato. And- All the training and technique can't give one a lovely sounding voice if it's not there already. I can't bear some voices that others love - like Anna Netrebko I hate it!
I wish I had been party to this Live performance... but even as recorded here it is unforgettable. Such beauty of tone, emphases & technical variations in accord w the dramatic requirements of the music. Dame Sarah's voice is of the purest velvet.
This is indeed a splendid performance, still I would recommend everyone loving this music to seek out Janet Bakers interpretation. The entire opera conducted by Raymond Leppard is available on youtube and is probably the supreme recording of this aria, or for that matter, any opera of Handel as far as I am concerned.
I’m trying to find a world class, legendary British Opera Singer. (Don’t ask why 😂) so Forgive my naivety but could someone who knows a lot about opera tell me how Sarah would be regarded internationally. And is there anybody else you’d recommend ahead of her? Thanks
Hermoso. Adoro la ópera. Y mi sueño sería,estar ahy palpando desde cerca .me hace estremecerse mis sentimientos.

I respect the many marvelous countertenors in this role. Phooey on the snobbishness toward them! They can do it! I love what Sarah Connolly did here, but I will never take the laurels from the great countertenors. They should be promoted. Period.
The 'A' section is painfully slow. Loses almost all sense of forward momentum. Bravo to her for managing to sustain as much line as she did. But even an artist of her calibre couldn't be expected to carry all those achingly long yearning lines without the extra breaths she was forced to take
I wonder why some opera freaks cannot resist to overrate their favourite singers or versions (which are not necessarily the best except in their eyes) by bashing others. This is but amateur? Sorry to say but the amateur is beyond a doubt you.
orgueil et prejuges je vous laisse! mais en toutes circonstances votre voix n est jamais la consonante de la mienne! autrement dit! votre voix ne fut n est et ne sera jamais representative de mes émotions
ridiculous - of course Troyanos was a wonderful singer. But does this mean every other singer’s rendition must be called „lamentable“?? This rigid fanatism has a pathological air about it
This voice falls deep into my soul. ❤
What a master! Sublime interpretation! Also, the setting and costumes correct for the original setting of Orlando.
Love you so much 🙃😊😀😍☺🤗🌲

i bow down before the goddess. freakin' sublime- and heartbreaking.

Of course, this is a woman in a trouser role. She’s very fine.

I just love her voice❤️
Just proves Handel was a great Opera Composer and stirred the emotions and the soul! I would say better than Mozart!

Ann Murray will always be Ariodante for me, but this is sublime. Even if the conductor made some questionable choices of tempo.
No words

Une présence très masculine et une belle voix intelligemment utilisée. Mais l'orchestre ne la suit pas et le basson est calamiteux.
Scherza infido!

Oh really! Might it have occurred that it was my interpretation and only my decision to create a dimension where feeling trounced “accepted” norms?
