God damnit I love this car. Thanks Porsche, thanks for giving EA the finger
Porsche is just as much to blame in the deal with EA. Nobody forced them into an exclusive deal besides themselves.
Early 90s. Porsche probably never expected that Sim Racing would be getting so huge and popular. Or really racing games in general.
+Zabbzi At the time, (late 90s) racing games weren't as big as they are now and Porsche really didn't care. Now that they do care, they didn't renew the license they had with EA now that they know they can make much more money from it.
Porsche: Make a good sim
EA: B...but muh Shift 2
I was lucky to be in Your first Spa practice session. At one point I could not believe that I will have fastest lap time in that session, but then I saw Martin Kroenke driving out of pits in front of me... Yeah, 1.5 sec gap was not small. Now I will have an iRacing tale to tell to my grandchildren, how I was in one session with two iRacing celebrities. I was crushed by the Champ, but I was a little faster that EmptyBox.
p.s. great car
No pogo, no death wiggle, proper racing dash and that SOUND. This is a good replacement for the C-Spec, hope the racing will be as great in the Cup than it was in the C-Spec
It sounds great to hear that this car drives really well and doesn't death wiggle. I just hope iRacing found real improvements and didn't decide to fudge some numbers to accomplish it. I know that some things are currently impossible to measure to get true numbers, but it would be disappointing if iRacing gave up and fudged numbers to fixed its tire model problems. I remain optimistic.
The best iracing channel on youtube, tks Matt. Enjoy your vacation.
RIP Oran Park :( You were a fantastic little circuit!
Ok, either I get a good nights rest for school tommorrow or watch Empty Box review the Porsche? Yeah I'm going with the review.
What could possibly be better, It's Friday and Empty Bpx has released another long high quality video, life don't get that much better than this.
I must say... it's a joy to see a car introduced to iRacing where it look comfortable to drive on edge. It's been a very long time since we've had a car that can power off the corners as you are doing yet seem controlled... not doing anything out of the ordinary; doing as one would expect a car to behave. I cannot wait to give this a try later today!
When you talked about the gearbox and the Formula Renault, all I can think about is your video at Imola and you yelling "Can i have second gear PLEASE?!" 😂😂
Hi matt, Just a comment to say thank you and give myself a pat on the back, iv been watching your videos for about a month. 36 hours ago I got a G29 and iracing subscription. IM OUT OF ROOKIES!!! Your videos were so much help thank you for taking the time to make them.
We road racers can thank the dirt racing project for the improved tire model.
Think about it, with the current/old model everybody would death wiggle into the wall after 1 lap. Obviously iRacing needed to solve the over sensitivity of the tires when and after drifting.
heh. I don't know about that. I personally believe dirt will be a hell of a lot easier in many regards because of the issues on the tarmac side of things. I don't think it's safe to just apply the pavement issues to dirt issues.
Not everything will be transferable of course, but even just parts of the dirt tire model can help the tarmac tires.
When you work on totally (unrelated) projects, you can still learn a thing or two in one project and apply that in an other project.
Its great that iracing is starting to move away from really odd feeling floaty feeling cars. I hope the same tire model does the same to other gt3s. Asetto corsa always felt so much more confidence inspiring in a more realistic way to me. I actually drove a 997 cup car and was doing decent times at silverstone national, the car felt planted and when it moved it was predictable. I think allot of people think more vague and more oversteer = more realism but it just isnt
Re: your point on more difficult car producing better racing - I've already seen this in the fun series. At Sebring, I've had several multi-lap, very close battles. This thing doesn't just draft by, so you really have to work to set up a pass and it's super rewarding when you get one done cleanly.
That Porsche is such a good looking racecar! Love it!
I just got to test the car yesterday and still need to spend some time on the track but thank you for posting and sharing your views. I will be hosting some Porsche testing sessions very soon on iRacing.
What a great car. Unfortunately I crashed out of my first race in it but I haven't driven a car for a long time that really puts a smile on my face just driving around like this one.
So totally not RUFs, so much Porsche! But yeah, good thing EA finally doesn’t own them exclusively anymore.
Great video! It would be great if you did a future tutorial on how to drive the Porsche to the limit!
There come the memories of the PCC 2007 cars in rFactor. Those were a fuckton of fun to drive.
The road going version of the gt3 rs 4.0 has 4 wheel steer. I wonder if that's the case with this simulated version with how it rotates in mid to slow speed corners?
Matt, what are your calibration values for the pedals please. ( for comparing notes since I have the ultimates)
Hello, con you explain the LEDs placed on the side? I know, that they are for indication of lock up the tyres. But the top two lights are red or violet, the bottom it yellow... I do not know the colour of the third one...
Thx
Nice review Box ! do a quick comparison with iracing, assetto and automobilista, with the same track for all, like brands hatch... cheers :)
Please never change your game sound to mic volume ratio. Also, please never stop giving us a lap or more with pure game sound.
Damn, this looks good. I might have to go back for a bit to check it out.
Hey Matt can you make a tutorial on perfect braking without ABS? Couldnt find a nice one and im sure you will deliver an amazing one
What steering degree does this porche GT3 cupcar use?
I loved the C-Spec in Multi-Class races. Had a few great and "successful" seasons. Looking forward to this but I still don't have time for a proper season...
What wheel and pedal set are you using?
Nice to do some laps with you on there mate. Hope to see you online again soon
Looking for some input guys, i've been sim racing forever, using an Xbox Controller. Yes I know, blasphemy. But as a casual racer, who has several top 15 laptimes on Project Cars against guys using wheels, I am finally looking into getting a little more serious about it. The plan is simple, stepup to a decent wheel and pedal setup, get acclimated to it and make sure I like using them in games like Iracing, Project Cars and AC. Then after a short time I plan on upgrading to a more serious dedicated type sim setup instead of using a simple desk mounted dual monitor PC. What wheel pedals would you guys say is the best bang for your buck just to get my feet wet? Down the road, ill probably go OSW and triple 48" HD TVs in a sim pit I make myself, but before that expense, I have to make sure I like it first. What would you guys recommend?
You told us, that when theres wheels, you play it. So! Then you gotta try My Summer Car. Build that car yourself and race with it! I think you enjoy it. You can find it from steam. :)
This car.
Freakin' amazing is what it is. Schwedenkreuz in this car is terrifying but so god damn satisfying.
iRacing nailed it.
amphobius GRONK
hi are you using high refresh monitor/s?
If it didn't have auto-blip it would have been perfect for me
Nice skin, it's spectactical!
Holy Shit! You had something positive to say ... :)
HArd to brake effectively with this baby. Sometimes even lacks "pressure" i find (Bathurst is a good place to experience this). love it tho.
That looks SO FUN!!!!!!!!
track?
damn you're such a beast
Where do you work?
My iracing keeps having massive hernias every time I try and play. Frame just goes from 180 to like 20 for a good few seconds :( had one good session in this beast of a car.
Is iRacing going to release a Porsche for the actual GT3 class?
thanks for the preview! I did that pick it up yet. the RUf cars are kind of terrible in my experience so far, fast but not as much fun as others. hey how do your frame rate at 142? I got a new Titan and can't figure out settings to do that. or even make use of my RAM (12gb) on the GPU!
thats strange.. I have a GTX 1070 .. and I have everything on maximum in Iracing and have something like 160-180 fps.. I then capped it at 140 or something around there... make sure you are running the dx11 version of iracing... it makes A HUUUGE difference in fps.. compared to the dx9 version
woohaa, nice to see Porsche in Iracing! Did Porsche forced them to improve the physics of the sim for this car? I know they are very demanding for the sim developer. Not important in the end, if Iracing is not going to kill you so hard now anymore (not so uncatchable anymore).
They figured out a new approach to the tire compound construction, apparently. It's the same tire model, but a new construction of tire.
2:55 INDEED, what convenience :D!
now iracing needs to put the new Ford GT in
I'd ask the all mighty box what his opinion is on the format change for NASCAR is, but he has probably answered that on twitter.
Pretty much. I'm not a fan, I wish they would have just gone to heat races. So much easier to understand, relatable to what every friggin' short track around the nation (and probably the world), doesn't feel like a contrived gimmick trying to salvage a sinking ship, as well as the fact it achieves much the same goal of "making things exciting".
It would also give sponsors a better likelihood of being on TV with half the cars on track.
I know it makes no sense to remove it, especially since people paid for it, but a part of me wants to see the C Spec ( and the RUF Track) destroyed. It always felt like a bit of a blemish in iRacing's vehicle offerings. Tech tracks give me the same impression, but at least they can be finished someday.
finally made it into a video :)
i thought the tires felt different
What's is the whistle the car makes when lifting the gas? Sounds awesome! I've heard in some other cars, but it's very noticeable on this one and I love it
The high pitched whine? It's the gearbox.
Empty Box that one. I love it, but never knew it was the gearbox. Whenever I can I choose the GT 911 because it makes that orgasmic sound. Also the Ford GT if I remember correctly. Thanks for the reply
I wonder if they will update the amount of things you can tweak. when I first looked at it i was like. wHAT IS THIS MADNESS
No, because it is correct.
Empty Box I see 😊
it is a cup car
That track looks fun, guess I'll have to buy it. Did you make any setup changes to the ARBs?
stiffer one at the rear IIRC.
But Empty Box, you cannot flash headlights when you win!
I really want to get Oran Park but do official series still use it ?
v8 supercars do but i dont know what lse
Not many series use it, and it's not too popular when it does get used because it never gets used.
Ah thats sad because it is a really nice track :(
Do u have any tips for not locking them up but not giving up a lot of time in brake zones?
SHgaming Get good.
You just have to find the lock up point and then learn to not go past it. Use some of the engine braking on downshifts to supplement your braking as well
Roll into the brakes a bit more than you might usually do for threshold braking. Ease into your max pressure.
SHgaming also brake wayyyy earlier than you would think.
Are cars in iR still fastest with cold tires while devs claiming they have most advanced tire model ever? No hate, just asking, thinking about going back.
Cold tires are still an issue, yes.
Any guess about the series for this car? Couldn't find any official races so far :/
It's taking over the rest of the schedule for the RUF cup starting next week when the tracks change.
topatohead cool! U know what they plan on doing with the ruf? Just keep it as a twin series maybe?
Killing it with fire.
Just bought the ruf like 4 weeks ago :'(
I think they will still have the RUF GT3 series
what a lovely circuit, unfortunately it was closed IRL in 2010. the car seems to be one of the best iracing cars ever?
Unfortunately Oran park (in real life) is no more, it's been turned into house estate.
A proper Aussie race track
The first ine I've been disappointed about an empty box video...It's not Tokyo extreme racer
So glad this is here in iRacing. While I don't hate Ruf, its implementation has always been crappy and questionable to me. I mean you can alter the GT2 class Ford GT to be a GT3 car but you couldn't make a much better racing version of the Ruf? Who thought putting a Slightly modified road car against full on race cars a good idea? Even PCARS and R3 had fictional Ruf cars that were at least believable.
Hello Matt! How do the car compare to how it is in AC? Im not looking for a war between the two sims in case someone else want to answer but its always interesting to see how the same car drives in different games that are supposed to be as close to reality as possible. :)
I am no Matt but I can tell you one thing: in iRacing, the car doesnt have ABS where in AC it does. In reality the car comes without ABS as standard but i is "ABS ready" and it is raced with ABS in some series. That is the main difference. Also the default setup in iRacing is way more understeery that the one in AC. Also I was under the impression that brakes worked A BIT better in AC. This is my brief observation after approx 4 laps in each car around Spa.
You can turn off ABS in AC if You want.
sure (not just turn on and of but set it to you liking) but my point was that in iRacing there is no ABS at all
I felt the same things but in a larger scale.. the braking felt a whole lot stronger in AC for me, and the car was also a lot more pointy and friendly to drive..
I actually did a back to back test at Spa in iRacing / AC before going to test at Sebring. ABS off in AC of course.
The car drives generally the same besides braking. On power both drive similarly, both can take curbs similar and have mostly the same reactions. Braking is a whole different ballgame though. AC version it's comparatively super simple and tame, in iRacing it's a challenge to get right on the edge. The AC car feels more like the iRacing Ruf CSpec if you are familiar with that car - easy to find the threshold, car doesn't feel like it moves around at all, it just slows down. iRacing's version is significantly more challenging to find the threshold and requires you to modulate the pedal more, rolling off the pedal smoothly is very important.
iRacing sadly doesn't let you alter the pressure, so the brakes are also more sensitive. I really wish we had that in iRacing as it makes things much nicer. I've yet to see a corner - even Les Combes where the car is close to it's top speed - where you can use more than about 70% pedal pressure. That isn't why braking is more difficult though, but it does explain why I used more pedal pressure in AC to get the same stopping distances. Full range of pedal travel before lockup would make it easier, but the car still moves and is more sensitive to trail braking in iRacing regardless. IMO, I think the reality lies between the two here. I think AC's car is probably too easy and forgiving, while the iRacing car is too sensitive to inside front wheel lockup in trail brake situations.
Otherwise they are pretty similar. Both cars you can dab the brake to "get the nose in" if needed, both will slide if you are aggressive on the power, both require you to roll into the throttle a bit more than a GT3 car but you can still really hammer it, neither has ye olde 911 power on understeer though don't get into the throttle too early as that will indeed induce the ye olde 911 power on understeer - it's not front or mid engined, it's rear engined.
Though much, much, much to my surprise, in low speed corners I had WAAAY more confidence in the iRacing car, to the point iRacing in that instance feels more like an older iteration of AC in that scenario whereas AC now feels like an older iteration of iRacing in that scenario. There is no way I'll take anyone complaining about a lack of low speed grip in the iRacing car seriously. The AC car is all tip-toes and lollerskates through the Bus Stop and out of La Source - it's like the car really needs downforce on it, but it shouldn't be a downforce car at all because it isn't a downforce car.
So braking and low speed situations IMO are the biggest differences, otherwise both cars are quite similar.
Lap times in iRacing were quicker than AC's fast track grip setting for me. I was about 1.5-2 seconds faster in iRacing than AC - 2:23/2:24 in iRacing, 2:25s in AC with a medium light 25 minute race fuel load for both. AC's car can go faster though with optimum track settings... IRL for the Supercup race at Spa last year in the slower 2016 spec car they were down to high 2:23s. Estimates seem to put the 2017 spec car at about a second a lap faster at most circuits, so make of that what you may. Likely more at Spa though, due to the longer straights ('17 car has more HP) and longer circuit length. Tough to compare aliens due to the hilarity that is AC's optimum track setting and iRacing's weather sensitivity, but Kronke in a normal weather iRacing session was doing high 2:21s, AC's RSR world record is a 2:19.3. I put the ridiculous AC time down to the track conditions.
It seems like some of the setup values really vary, though they both have the same options. EG - In iRacing to get the car to turn at high speed you almost need to run 1 to 2 on the rear wing (of 9 settings) but by default AC has a medium high setting on the rear wing and it still turns at speed. The rear wing is the source of understeer people are complaining about for the iRacing car - 4th gear on up with the default setup it just isn't turning. Stavelot and Blanchimont for example are like... actual corners you need to brake for on default, with the wing pulled out the car goes around the corners properly comparing to onboards. Setup wise that's the main difference besides the tire models and how heat and pressure builds and interacts in them.
FFB is much the same, though again the usual differences in each. Both have the characteristic lightness on center, though AC's does load up more harshly IMO - I use the LUT FFB in AC, worth mentioning. Which ever you prefer is the one you will prefer. Personally, I had a much better time with the iRacing car because I'm not fighting it, whereas the AC car just doesn't feel connected in a way that allows me to place all 4 tires on the ground in the position I want them, but that is likely also because I'm more comfortable with iRacing in general though I can and do switch sides. AC primary users would probably say the exact opposite I bet.
Geez that is a lot of toe
Ok glad I'm not the only one that noticed that light zone in the middle of the steering. Also am I the only one that has trouble seeing the car's in front of mine's brake lights? Just plowed a guy @ Sebring going into turn one during the start of the race cause turn 1 shenanigans. Other then that 110/10 Iracing.
They are definitely tricky to see. I've found I'm having to watch a lot closer but there was enough a difference to me to notice it.
It sounds like there's currently a bug with head and tail lights on this car being too dim, which should get fixed in the next patch.
Definitely some chinese leds.
18:12 Sorry about not moving completely off the racing line haha i was yelling at my cat and didn't realise how quick you crept up haha my bad.
Nah, no problem man.
You can turn off ABS in AC.
I obviously know this. It doesn't necessarily work for iRacing though to to have ABS as a car setting when they will be running the car with ABS off due to the way the series are setup.
YES!!!!! ITS THE FUCKING EMPTY BOX!!!!
I LOVE YOU SO FUCKING MUCH DUDE, FUCK!!!!!!
at last ...
its not Porscha its Porsche
Porsche. There's a new Automobilista mod out by Patrick Giranthon:
The Porsche 911 from 1974.
I wonder which car is more fun to drive...
K'aiq the Khajiit If you listened at all, ITS NOT A DAMN GT3 CAR. It's just the name.
If you remotely knew anything about cars though, you would already know the name of it was GT3, not class it races in.
Bunch of cunts reacting to my post. Great! Not to mention reacting to the part i don't give a shit about. Great! Let me delete the first part so they look stupid. Yes! bunch of wankers, that will teach em.
You know, you really haven't helped yourself there...
If you had paid any attention to the video we wouldn't be having this conversation. Maybe listen before you comment and don't act like a twat when people reply to you.
360p :D the plus of being first >_< ffs
3rd Time watching this because because.
