@@zacharychoo No, they wanted the L55 for the superior armor penetration for a long time now, the MoD was just too stingy. It still is stingy, that's why only 147 CR2 are upgraded to CR3. Germany just ordered another 105 Leopard 2A8 on top of their 300+. They will have close to 3 times as many tanks as Britain.
@@jonny2954 Bundeswehr were using VW vans instead of Leo 2s in training because they had so few working. Rh 120mm is the only tank gun and ammunition in production in the west, it was that or nothing.

It wasn't really, the British just liked the HESH a lot. But now they switched because a new ammo type for this gun can replace it
