The take-away for me from these recent videos is that specifications alone will not tell you important things about a camera system you are considering purchasing. You have to try it out as Kasey has discovered with the excellent Nikon auto-exposing functionality evident in these clips. It is a pleasant surprise to see what can be gained by instructing software engineers to optimize for our faces. We see a good balance of skin tone and various lighting conditions. Congratulations to Nikon getting it right.
I got my Nikon Z30 with the content creator kit and the two kit lens 16-50 and 50-250. The 50-250 is better than I expected it would be with a lot of range. So it's really a great all around setup
I never thought i would even hear you ever talk about Nikon, let alone start using one regularly. I do videography for events and music festivals and I am the only one I have ever seen using Nikon on the video side of things. Lots of photographers use Nikon, but none for video. So, the other video people will look at me like I am crazy, or stupid, or even call me crazy, or stupid for doing video work with Nikon cameras. I started with Nikon and am brand loyal. I don't want all the issues of switching like always wondering if i had, or had not switched, if this or that would be better or worse, ect. I think Nikon lenses are the best and my footage just looks good, I don't do any color grading or color correction, either. Thanks for throwing some love in the Nikon direction.
Just found ya channel mate, you give me a good laugh. Find it amazing seeing how people live over there, my chicken yard over here in AUS is larger than those house blocks and its always sunny and warm here year round.
We use action cam for off road UTV tours avg. speeds 30 km on trails. We need the long focus vs arm length. Also, tree canopy shadows are very challenging for standard DSLR. Imagine if a company created products for arms length use only. Your funny ❤
The Ace360 8K 24p was finally nice and pleasant. Colors were a bit off and over saturated, but that was the best action cam look I’ve seen on your channel. The GoPro 12 is a really close second but the DJI Pocket 3 still takes the cake for newer cameras, and the X3000 is starting to look a bit dated,(although no one would know if you didn’t tell them). I’m interested to see what Nikon is doing with their new cameras, the Z9 is amazing.
Nice job on the video. That Insta360 footage does look really rough in that side-by-side. The Z30 is generally a decent camera and does look good here, but I do a lot of longer recordings so I'm disappointed with mine overheating indoors at 4k even only doing HDMI out with a DC coupler instead of a battery (I use it with a Ninja V). For vlogging in clips under 35 minutes, depending on the weather, it would be fine for people. 1080p so far in my testing hasn't had the same issue but don't really want to use 1080p much. I'm fine with vlogging style footage from the GoPro9 that I have but its a smaller sensor. It also has a smaller aperture. I usually use it with the max lens mod so might help out further though it uses a portion of the sensor to do horizon leveling so definitely not great in low light.
I honestly think you need to get the Osmo Pocket 3! It’s literally the perfect vlogging camera. I know you don’t like wireless microphones but if you can plug one in I think you’d be surprised just how good it is,
An honest question. A vlog puts the person in the story vs the Insta puts the person in the background? Not sure I’m conveying what I’m seeing. In vlogging you’re the center. But with the Insta it’s emphasizing how big the world is, how large the adventure is? I’m honestly trying to understand if this camera is doing what it’s intended to do and doing it well. Would you disagree?
thanks for entertain me every day with good and fun content (sorry i dondt know what to comment but i guess commenting helps youtube algorithm). Happy holidays!!
I really appreciate your videos. I have an Ace pro for motovlogging so I don’t need it to shoot my face in a vlog but your channel has shown me the need for another camera just for face shots off the bike.
Questions: What percentage of viewers actually notice that focus issue with the action cameras? I for one definitely want to see your surroundings as you walk and run the streets and nature paths. Is this an issue with manufacturer's perception of the size of the market and lack of potential profit? It's too bad this is an issue because it would be far better to walk around with some small and compact rather than a mirrorless body. Oh well.... Have a great week.
I sure as hell don't notice it. My opinion says the creativity exceeds small hardware flaws. If your video is fun and interesting, NO ONE will notice close range blurriness. Hell.....I haven't even noticed it with my Action 3 until people started mentioning it. Critiquing it is good because it brings attention to the manufacturers to give us a more refined product for the money they require us to spend on their product(s). Hell....I am watching this video in 420p. I think most people who watch these videos don't even watch them in 4k. Hell...alot of my videos are recorded in 2.7k and most in 1080p. We get caught up in all of these resolution specs and so on and don't even necessarily need them depending on the type of content you create.
It's VERY obvious for me at least. It wouldn't be a problem if they just included a close focusing filter. But that they just ignore it and have ads with people vloggin with it is just hilarious
I notice it. And he is talking about vlogging. It could be a fun drinking game, shots when he says "vlogging". What is vlogging about...? A talking face. Talking face out of focus...? Game over.
I have an old Sony AS300 and I like the footage, but like you said in another comment section, gotta get the big big resolution numbers to have something decent after UA-cam takes a bite. I'm a motorcycle riding instructor and "need" (ish) to expand to motovlogging. Plenty of motovloggers out there with a good product, but I know they're spending hours in post. Maybe they enjoy it. I don't have the time or interest to really delve into editing. I want to keep it simple. I'm choosing the Nikon on a tripod, recording slow speed riding drills in a parking lot. Dunno what I'll do about motovlogging.
Sony X3000 FTW! Insta360 doesnt look THAT bad but could certainly use the 3+ diopter filter to compensate the focusing distance (i agree, camera should come with that/those filters). Still more stabilization than nikon. I think AI features will eventually fully surpass manual/optical quality. Embrace the fakeness and hyperreality! I sold more saturated samsung tvs on vivid color at best buy than natural looking tvs anyway...
That's why you need to try the DJI pocket 3! Best Steb is the pocket 3 man 😉 You need to set up a pobox maybe ppl Will send you gift. I see it happen on other channels then you make a live opening days .
I think the Z30 looks better, but I suppose the Insta is trying to evaluate the whole scene with multi-metering, and with a wide focal length that means there is a lot to compensate for (sky, ground, white backgrounds, dark backgrounds...) It wouldn't make sense exposing for the face and having highlights and shadows clipping and exposure changing willy-nilly. The Z30 has a closer focal length and less to compensate for, but the sky is in fact clipping.
The Z30 makes use of Nikon's considerable experience and database of scenes to evaluate the scene. It's also in matrix metering, which is what you're calling multi metering. There's no way insta is winning this metering competition. The sky is indeed clipped but the scene is metering correctly because it's correctly detected the subject to be the person...
damn, thank you for being one youtuber that straight tells the truth, i'm looking at gopro vs insta360 ace pro footage and every youtuber says that the insta just blows away the competition while their footage looks terrible and blend, maybe it has better low light action but they are seeking some insta360 dollars and thats VERY noticiable...

@@zownrl3923 That was my attempt at sarcasm. I would love to have a camera other than an action camera that could travel with me in the kayak or canoe. Waterlogging a camera doesn't interest me.
The Olympus stuff that you used to use was better than the Nikon for vlogging. The Nikon has too many shakes and micro jitters. The stabe is awful. The Insta looks amazing in the scenes where it's not close to your face. Great colours, details, exposure. I prefer the Ace to the Nikon most of the time. Blurry backgrounds are so 2023
I don't like the action cams for vlogging. I am really having to put up with that footage. The only thing that looks worse than action cam footage is the Z30; it's jittery and frequently loses focus.
Sinceramente, nose nada de ingles pero vi todo y esa camars insta 360 se vio genial en todo momento nose cual sean sus características pero la disfrute mas a comparación de la otra camara que no se siente disfrutsble.
Not sure what the problem is. My One RS with the 1-inch core has a minimum focus distance of 90cm. My arm is longer than 90cm. It's hardly a major problem extending a human arm 90cm unless you are a very small human. At arm's length, you weren't properly in ficus on the Z30. According to the Ace Pro specs, minimum focus distance should be 40cm.
No. Action cams have fixed focus and small apertures. That means that objects will get softer the closer they are to the lens. The minimum focus distance in the manual is just an opinion on the distance when the object become unacceptably soft.
The spec sheet is wrong, that's the point. They are false advertising. One RS is never in focus. Z30 had proper focus the whole video, what are you talking about?
@@cameraconspiracies The Z30 was not properly focused most of the time, unless you're going for a blurry look? The One RS focuses pretty well, even within 40cm of the lens. I have shot a ton of video with mine, with the 4K Boost lens and the 1-inch mod, and it's very sharp.
I am sorry Casey, but on the Nikon (at the begining of the video) from the forehead up all I see is damnation white. Am I crazy to see that on the Ace pro, one can see the subject, not quite in focus but you also see the sky, corectly, and the background. Nothing a close focus ring won't fix, you'll see 😂
the pocket 3 blur the background and that is bad. What is the point for vlogging outdoor with blur background ?..when you talk to the camera and tell your viewers " look behind me or see the beautiful view behind " OMSO POCKET 3 blur all.. what viewers can see ?
Insta360 should have a vlogging mode that adjusts the focus. I'm sure that AI chip could figure that out. Yeah, the focus is fixed, but can't they figure out a way to do this via software?
Nice toque, eh. My god, could you be even more stereotypically Canadian? There was someone literally moving away from Canada in the background because of your hat. I agree with the video though.
Honestly the ace pro just feels pointless to me. The only redeeming feature is the flippy screen but I prefer the front screens on the GoPro and Osmo anyway as they are much less likely to break. It's not that I don't think the ace pro can do a good job, only that it does do anything important any better than what was already available so what's the point of it
It is more versatile than the others due to its superior processing chip. The 8K footage is very usable. I am curious to see what if any features they will add with firmware updates.
Autofocus is anathema to action cams for two reasons. First, the camera wouldn't know what to focus on in a fast-changing frame. Second, whatever it focused on would be too slow so the whole frame would be a blur. That's why action cams are fixed focus from necessity.
Instead of making you a transwoman or a caveman, which it does extremely well (I think you make a good woman), the Ace Pro should concentrate on making the you from this universe look right.
Funniest video I've seen in a great while, if I based it on how hard it made me laugh. Even how awesome it made his home appear like the hobbit shire, let alone the caveman or space woman.
@@cameraconspiracies Very true. I have 4 action cams, and 360, never ever have i used one as a selfie cam. My Canon can do that, but to bulky. As you say, all action is blurry up close. So are mine. Still, need them.

Insta360 should have a vlogging mode that adjusts the focus. I'm sure that AI chip could figure that out. Yeah, the focus is fixed, but can't they figure out a way to do this via software?
Omg is this not for vlog? Ace pro?? Which should i buy for vlog?
Does DJI OA4 suffer in the same way with focus given its the same sensor size
No it doesn't.
I only clicked for the hat. Please post link. Thank you!
Love the Z30 vids
At 7:30 doesn't Sony do that? Oh wait, not on the firmware forbidden A7S3...
Nice toque, eh. My god, could you be even more stereotypically Canadian? There was someone literally moving away from Canada in the background because of your hat. I agree with the video though.
Peter Santenello does ok with his 2.65 million subs with a Hero 8 😂
Honestly the ace pro just feels pointless to me. The only redeeming feature is the flippy screen but I prefer the front screens on the GoPro and Osmo anyway as they are much less likely to break. It's not that I don't think the ace pro can do a good job, only that it does do anything important any better than what was already available so what's the point of it
It is more versatile than the others due to its superior processing chip. The 8K footage is very usable. I am curious to see what if any features they will add with firmware updates.
Nice hat too
For a guy who was obsessed with stabe I don’t get how you’re loving the Z30?
Because I'm also obsessed with colour lol.
@cameraconspiracies at the expense of looking amateur. Oly and Pany boy make this look poor. (Big thumbs up for your hard work too!)
Larger photosites remain undefeated 😅
I want a action cam with auto focus man
Autofocus is anathema to action cams for two reasons. First, the camera wouldn't know what to focus on in a fast-changing frame. Second, whatever it focused on would be too slow so the whole frame would be a blur. That's why action cams are fixed focus from necessity.
looked cool in ai but terrible focus
Instead of making you a transwoman or a caveman, which it does extremely well (I think you make a good woman), the Ace Pro should concentrate on making the you from this universe look right.
Funniest video I've seen in a great while, if I based it on how hard it made me laugh. Even how awesome it made his home appear like the hobbit shire, let alone the caveman or space woman.
I won't watch another video from you until you do a review of the Pocket 3.😮💨
How about a compensating lens for vlog focusing range? I hope you will market unique lenses for these action cams
Vlogging is not Action. So buy vlogging cams.
I ran across a street, was action packed.
@@cameraconspiracies Very true. I have 4 action cams, and 360, never ever have i used one as a selfie cam. My Canon can do that, but to bulky. As you say, all action is blurry up close. So are mine. Still, need them.
