Glad to finally find an actually balanced and very well-structured review of a budget mattress! Most mattress reviews I've seen for other budget mattresses are heavily biased by subjective impressions and therefore tend very strongly towards loving/hating them, but your demonstrations and explanations of the mattress's composition and its effects on firmness/softness were very helpful and informative. I'm an underweight student with a very limited budget and who only needs the mattress for at most a few years, so your comments were very helpful to compare the few, poor-to-adequate quality mattresses that I'm realistically considering purchasing sometime over the next month.

I just happened to have bought a Zinus queen firm mattress last summer for a guest room to replace an old box spring. I actually think the Zinus is very comfortable and puts me to sleep right away. We have a newer queen box spring in our bedroom. After trying the Zinus I am now planning on replacing the queen in our bedroom.
Regardless of brand, mattresses are wear items that will eventually be replaced probably every 10 years or sooner. You can spend $500 or you can spend up to $5000 for them. So far, for the price and very similar warranty I cannot justify getting anything thats priced more than the Zinus. At least as far as I can find in the market and until someone comes up with something even better.

GREAT review of this brand of mattress. Just got a Zinus 12" king size for the guest room. You are correct, unless you are one of the lucky ones, it isn't going to expand the full 12". I plan on adding another layer of regular, cheap foam (like eggshell) and then a 1" high density cooling gel memory foam topper and a bamboo mattress pad. Hope that will help with some of the issues you mentioned. After all my purchases of the mattress, Zinus elite frame, mattress pad, additional toppers, etc., I will have nearly $800 in this bed. That's okay -- it will last a good while since it is for the guest bedroom (for visits from family). BUT, since my husband and I are heavier people, I'd never go with a mattress like this. We have a box foundation, a quality hotel grade mattress, then a 4" high density topper & mattress pad - - - the topper has lasted about 9 or 10 years and sleeps great - - it's firm with no pressure points like mentioned on this video. (King size topper that is high density was about $350 at the time - - worth every penny though)

Glad to see you giving an apparently honest review. Most of these so-called review sites seem more like commercials with only the slightest nitpicks about whatever it is they are supposedly reviewing. I bought a Nectar and have been very pleased with it so far other than some odor and the fact that the foot of the mattress inexplicably continues to stay somewhat curved toward floor despite several days passing by. I must admit though. I wish I had the benefit of piling up on one of these for a day or two because at that price point if it weren't but about half as comfortable as the Nectar it would be a worthy consideration. Compared to the awful Sealy Posturepedic I'd been sleeping on for the last few years any of these probably would have seemed like a little piece of heaven to lay down on.

I love it, the first couple of days I was a little sore because I wasn’t used to sleeping on an actual mattress but I don’t think I’ve ever slept this good in my life. Like he said that if you can afford something more expensive then definitely go that route but if you’re looking for something cheaper this bed is amazing

I have this... I think if you sleep on your back it’ll be a really good mattress for you. I’m a side sleeper and I’ve had to force myself to sleep on my back. BUT for the money... I had been sleeping on a 20 year old futon haha so don’t take my opinion because I wasn’t in a good spot before owning it. In my opinion it’s too firm. He is right over the course of the night it becomes firm, I put pillows on my side to keep from turning on my side in my sleep.
Final thing... my bed expanded the full amount and I didn’t have Odor. My top layer was “ gel infused “ so I guess slightly different model.
A year ago I bought the zinus green tea 12 inch mattress and I weigh 380 lb. I do Sink in The Mattress a little bit but not much you don't feel anything when the other person gets up in the middle of the night. I have put a bottle of water next to me and fell asleep. the next morning the bottle water was still standing up. I do go from back to side during the night but the bottle water never moved or spilled that's pretty good. Being a bigger man I like this mattress but I just wish that I can lose just a little bit more weight I like a firm bed
I Guess I was a lucky one my mattress grew to full 12" and so far it is super comfortable...

Just bought this mattress the other day and will be here Tomorrow (27 March). Will be letting it air out for 24 hours and then hit this bad boy up. I have been sleeping between a futon and a air mattress when not at my girls house. Will come back and post my impressions on this mattress after a couple of weeks. Have you washed the the mattress sack? Like the cover that covers the layers ? I recently washed mine and it had so much loose strands of plastic or synthetic strands I want to say ? It looks like cat hair and silkiness like spider webs. It is all over my blankets since I washed it with them. I didn’t think it through. But I didn’t notice these little hair looking strands until a day later. It is super itchy. Does your bed also have this !?
Well, kinda yes, kinda no. Since I review a new mattress 6-12 times per year, I can't keep them all. I don't have this one anymore. Having said that, I would not recommend removing the cover all the way (I only unzipped it part-way to see the end). It's really hard to get back on, and I don't think you're supposed to machine wash it. Just use a really good mattress protector from day 1.

I'm just wondering what your basis or benchmark is for your rating. Like when you say you rate it 2 - as compared to what? If thats on a scale of 1-10, what would be more like 10 to you? I haven't seen all your videos so I don't know if you have other ratings out there. If you do, it might be good to mention that in this video.... that you rate this as 2 compared to XYZ mattress that you rated as 8 and explain why.

Hi Broover --- thanks for the Kudos. You are in a tough spot. As you probably know, you generally get what you pay for. If you could afford it, I would suggest a Voila (see my review here: ua-cam.com/video/60IUNbarAmM/v-deo.html ), but it will run you $800-1,100 even with my coupon, depending on size. If you can't afford that, I would lean away from this one, and get something with springs and foam, not all foam due to your weight. One possibility might be this one -- ua-cam.com/video/bobMPVGnyZI/v-deo.html and add a thin (1" or 2") foam topper for a little more padding. Best wishes, and thanks for watching and subbing!
What is the use of green tea exactly? Does it keep the bugs away?
My understanding is that it is supposed to keep it fresher and mildew resistant.

Depends on you weight and build. I'd venture to say if you're over 200 pounds, it will turn out about the same as your Ikea . . . will last about 2-3 years, then start to give out. Just a guess. It's not a bad bed, but you get what you pay for.

Hi Kris, thanks for the comment. Based on your combined weight, I would not recommend an all-foam mattress. I would get a hybrid with a risk-free trial. no, Try LUCID on amazon, I bought 2. My son is about 350lbs, and he is very very fine on that one. My mom just moved in with me and she only wanted a cheap one but she was sleeping on my LUCID and fell in love. She bought the Zinus green tree, and I will sleep on it because i am too lazy to transfer the mattress. If I do think the cheapness of it means its not going to last too long. I am preparing to maybe purchase another LUCID in the next few months.

The mesh material underneath first cover is most likely fiberglass. Look at the tags and take a flashlight to it, look close and you will see the fiber strands you are breathing.

That is true, and I do agree the top cover will keep most of the fibers in, but just take a look at the under side of your sheets sometime with a flashlight. The glass fibers are hard to see without light being shined on them. Maybe they are not getting through your cover.
Yes, I know about government mandates. Yea, 3000 would be way too and who knows what's in my serta, but it does not contain fiberglass. Tags don't show it. Anyway Indigo and Nectar both told me that they use a kevlar based flame resistant cover which is not glass based. Kevlar is plastic based. These cost about 700 to 1000 for a king. People used to think asbestos was fine to breath many years ago. I may turn out fiberglass is similar, but who knows. I owned a Zinus for 7 years, but always had a waterproof cover on it, so I am pretty sure the fiberglass didn't get through.

So I'm just like you in stature. A back sleeper. I need support but also some give. Is there an online bed for me? Or do I have to go up to a $2,000+ bed from the store? To cover my hard Zinnus 12 inch Tea memory foam mattress I added a 3 or four inch layer of memory foam to soften it. Now it's a bit too soft so I can't win. I did like black mattress Macy's we're talking $3,000 there. PS I also end up on my side like you.
Since it sounds like you are a lot like me, I'll just tell you what I would like if I had my current knowledge but was "starting over" -- Here are the 3 I would try:
1. Alexander Hybrid by Nest -- I've not tried it (I would really like to, but they won't send me a free one yet!), but I think it's a lot like the Sapira -- which I have -- but one notch more pressure sensitive. I'd get the medium.
2. Sapria (by Leesa) -- this is our bed when I'm not trying one. It's pretty great. (see my review video -- use coupon code "dugroz" for $200 off)
3. Purple -- people either love it or hate it. I've not tried it, but I totally would.

I bought this same mattress on Amazon. Mistake. It sleeps terribly hot and is hard. Yes it is nice and soft when you lay on it and touch it.....but try sleeping on it for a few hours. Its like a rock. Amazon refunded my money and said keep the mattress.

I bought this mattress a couple years ago when it was still 199$ (went up in price since). The mattress was too soft for someone like me who is heavier set. It is also VERY hot and would sweat not even 30 minutes later. When you flip the mattress it is hard like a brick. Would not recommend.
The back side has 2 hard layers. Cmon man Haha. Not supposed to flip it. That's like flipping a spring mattress.
Have you considered getting a decent camera for these reviews since it seems like you are wanting to do a lot of them?
The camera used for this review is a new one. I can tell the microphone is much better; I think the picture quality is a little better, but not as good as I would like. I will try playing with the setting to see if it can record at a higher resolution, or maybe it's the editing software. What do you think? Is it at least a little better?
if that's the case you are uploading in a low resoluction or something. Maybe add more light to the room where you are recording by opening a window etc. Its pretty low quality resolution on this end

How could someone buy a mattress without laying on it first?
Great question! Some time I should do a video on that topic alone. But to give a very brief answer . . . it's the ability to return it for a full refund that makes all the difference. With many direct-to-consumer mattress companies, you get a trial period of 75-100 days; and if you don't like it, they will arrange to come get it at no charge to you, and you don't have to box it up or anything.
Buying on Amazon is a little trickier, as you would have to box it yourself . . . yes, that would be a big box . . . and you only get the standard 30 day return period. Having said that, a lot of people think this particular mattress is so inexpensive, it's worth the risk.

There is a point where a person can be too big for this bed. Where exactly that point is is rather subjective.
The zinus bed I got was covered in fiberglass and smelled like mildew I now have to throw the bed out and deep clean my house it was not worth getting the bed for $265
This mattress is horrible not comfortable in my opinion my back pain is worse than before
