My son was a freshman there at that time. It has affected my life in ways that if you weren't personally involved you can never understand. He was safe and not at the scene but it still haunts me. It took time to know he was alive. Hug your loved ones.

I was driving a shuttle van and was outside waiting for passengers to drive to parking lots all around the campus. After the shots I walked backwards and stepped on a curb sprained my ankle because I couldn't tell where they were coming from, as they echo from the rock buildings and he was moving from place to place fast, it happened fast but seemed like forever and the campus police were there, and town cops within 15 mins of his rampage and he was still shooting ppl while cops were running around trying to find him, was chaos and something I will never forget that long terrible day

I was in fourth grade on this day in the community when that happened... Our school went on lock down, and we sat huddled in the corner, no talking, no lights. I was so young I didn't understand, but I remembered being scared because my mom worked near campus. Our community was eerily silent during this time, and for some time after. The community, love and support that has grown out of this horrible event, however, is such a beautiful and genuine feeling. If you ever visit, you will see it. I will never forget this day or those 32 that lost their lives. May their beautiful souls rest in peace. ❤️ We will prevail. We are Virginia Tech. 4/16/2007.

Honestly, all that incident could have been totally avoided had the resident advisors of the dorm I lived in would have taken their job seriously. I say this because I lived a couple of doors down the shooter's dorm room, and witnessed him doing so many weird things throughout the semester, but the student resident advisors never really cared or did anything, they were a joke. They didn't want to be bothered, they just wanted free room and board offered by their pretend job. Had they intervened or just taken action, all those people will still be alive.
I feel like he would have spared me if he had stumbled upon me inside of Norris Hall while in my German class, I always said hi to him, but never saw anybody else do so. He was troubled but also bullied. I definitely could see it coming. He really hated an African American female teacher of his, I remember him talking about it and then lighting up a book on fire in the middle of the study hall. He could have easily caused a fire within the dorm that one time, but the resident advisor wouldn't even open his door, he was to busy to do his job.

Took what seemed like hours to get ahold of him worrying what if he’s he’s not ok ! When finally the phone wrung and it was him saying he was ok back in his dorm a cop saved his life he had been walking to class two buildings away. Thinking what if he had been closer to the building earlier ! It still haunts me to this day that I could of lost brother! And then he ends up coming home two days later shattered he finally opens up to us that his best friend had been shot and killed and was a Corp cadet with him! This still haunts him but made him go onto the army and become now a major! We will never forget this horrible day that no one else can imagine!

I am extremely proud of Kristina Anderson for choosing to turn her pain into purpose by becoming a School Safety and Violence Prevention activist and I am proud of Dr. Nowak for honoring the memory of his wife by turning the second floor of Norris Hall into a place for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention. I think it's important we remember Virginia Tech as well. I know Colombine is important cuz it was the first of many school shootings, but I think everyone seems to forget about Virginia Tech and others massacres like Santa Fe, Sandy Hook and Pulse. Those people are survivors too and, in my opinion, they were as traumatic as Colombine was. Not everything is about Colombine, I would love to watch more documentaries about Virginia Tech, there are so many questions unsolved still and would like to see how are the survivors going, teachers, students, everyone.
