For newer designers or those who aspire to be, 04:55 is the most relevant information here. Certificates and Case Studies are cool, the reality is just that these are tools for us designers and people outside of the sphere don't really care for that at all. The only thing that matters is how does your work look like (portfolio) and whom have you worked with so far (resume).

I wanted to get into UIUX for years, and ended up making one of those roles for myself after a career change. Came in to a job as an "Interactive" Designer which mainly meant emails and ads for a massive enterprise corp. After a few months of building trust with coworkers and leadership in my business unit, I created a new role for myself doing what I wanted to do in UIX. It took several months to get there (and I think that's the only way to do it-after a year of anything being a certain way in corporate America, it becomes extremely difficult to change), but now I'm happy in my role and making an impact.
You don't know how grateful I feel to have found your channel! I'm in the course right now and learning a lot. This will def be helpful when I finish the course and look to network to work on real life projects.
Thanks I just got my BA in CS and now I'm doing the Google cert for UX. This was very encouraging. I'm also networking. I was always afraid of sounding so dumb to people but father said the more experience you have the more you're able to articulate what you want out of a job and also present yourself in a professional manner. He told me to take on many interviews as I can to gain experience. I'm glad that was your journey and it paid off :)

Wow. Thanks for the video. I started UX design course and just after watched your video. But saw you didn't got job so I got demotivated and left the course after completing 2 modules. Then I went for web developer role to gain experience. Currently I am MERN fullstack developer, and yes everything starts to fall in place if we keep pushing. Thank you for this vid. I am in a similar situation right now. I have a 3d modeling background, and I am gonna start the google certificate course soon. For the longest time I felt as if there was something wrong with me when companies would ghost me or I would get rejection letters. It made me think I was not good enough. I am thankful for this advice as it let me breath a little bit.

I am taking it just to try new things, learning new skills and also maybe being able to apply it to my current job. I know it won't be a magic right away kind of thing but small steps over time.
Congratulations Aliena cai. After watching your video on google foundations in digital marketing I took the course and completed it. After I completed my graphic design diploma I do agree without live projects it’s almost impossible to get any job other than internship. I’m impressed with your determination and also your willingness to relocate to get a job that you want to achieve. I am going to start my diploma in digital marketing in October and I hope to be able to work in digital marketing as well. I realised that for digital or design related jobs they require a minimum diploma in mass communication/ marketing/ digital marketing or graphic design (visual communication)

Hi Ailena, Glad that you shared this video. I would like to hear your thoughts: I am strongly considering creating my case studies that revolve around travel and geography. When it comes to real-life projects, could it possibly be a travel destination website? For instance, a particular city/region that can be on someone's bucket list for their next destination.
I'm at the getting none to little response to my applications stage. I already had some experience wit UX/UI but I'm starting to think my resume is the problem. I also have a friend with a jacked up real estate website that needs help that I'm turning into a another case study for my portfolio.
I think a major disclaimer here should be that you actually had a real UX job to put on your resume!! I am a graphic designer in the wayfinding industry and have completed my Google UX certificate and have my masters in visual communication design and still, after all of that...I have zero responses from employers. I would highly recommend to people who think landing a job in UX is quick and easy. Employers will not consider you unless you have the work experience first. Its super frustrating.
So I'm a graphic designer wanting to go a the UX route, I've created a few websites (paid) for ppl as a freelancer, I graduate in December! 🥳 will working with clients not necessarily teams with engineers and PMs etc, will that be considered “real life projects”? Because that's all I have. I plan on starting the certificate at the end of the year!

Gosh yes, apparently OPT is not very strict. You can work for your school, an early startup, or an organization, or even volunteer to get that problem solved. So the job doesn't need to be a hardcore 8h/day thing. Ask your school first if you can log that you are working for the school to the system but don't do a significant work to help to transfer to your career.

Unfortunately, it's a mixture of persistence and some luck along with timing. Knowing people, of course, always helps.

I did graph design in college. I have a bachelors degree so they go perfectly with it.
