As a Christian who runs an anime community, I will agree that this is all correct and things I've had to struggle with over the course of my walk. Idolatry has been the main sin, but now my focus is clearly on the Lord Jesus.

This is why I like Sonic the Hedgehog so much. His story always centers around sacrifice and uplifting those around him. He maybe the hero and can be cocky but when his friends and loved one are in need he isn’t prideful and helps them through anything. He even treats his enemies with respect and a love for their well being.

I think every Christian, weather an anime fan or not, should watch Vinland Saga. It teaches love and forgiveness and how you can move on even when people have taken everything from you. The “love your enemies” quote from Jesus is literally in the show. It actually changed my outlook on life and helped bring me much closer to God. The first season is all about anger and revenge, but it also shows how those things only lead to destruction, and the second season is all about how to forgive and move on from your past. 10/10 would recommend. Can’t wait for season three.
One of if not the best anime/manga of all time. I am honestly dissapointed by the negative reception of the second season, alot of people seem believe vinland saga was just pure violence and war, which lead to them making fun of season 2. Of course they are wrong

An anime I love is dragon ball. It teaches us that even the worst of people can still be redeemed, especially in the case of two major characters in particular. Avengers infinity war and endgame also has me THIS close to crying too.
I would keep in mind that Jesus talked about how coveting another man's wife is already crossing the line. So I would recommend that you focus less on your actions and more on your thoughts. And of course, don't forget to ask if this would be pleasing to God. You might not blaspheme because you watched a show, but how would God feel about you saying you enjoyed a show that blasphemes Him? Being a Christian isn't just following a set of rules like some boring religion. It's a relationship with the creator of the universe. If a show was mocking your best friend, would you still watch it? I don't mean to accuse you of anything. I just think these are good additions to your point. But if you disagree, I would love to who your reasoning encase there is something I have overlooked.
@@viperstriker4728 you are right that it is better for us to avoid thoughts but I’m of the opinion one should feel whatever they’re thinking even if it’s against what the Lord teaches. He understands we are human and that we experience these thoughts and emotions but to me what’s important is acting upon them and not being a master of one’s actions.
@@Lichenroc From an intellectual stand point I have no problem with contradictory or unbiblical info, let the truth win out. But emotions introduce bias that make it harder to find the truth. So I would say feeling and giving things access to your emotions is the worst thing you could do. "An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unbarred and unguarded."

I frequently discourage friends and family from watching popular comedy shows like the big bang theory, not just because they make fun of Christianity, but they make it seem its okay to have sex outside of marriage and have multiple sex partners. So we need to apply this to everything we watch or may influence us in any negative way

Was thinking the same thing. Something like a shounen/action anime where Christians don't fight against people, but against powers and principalities and the stronger the walk with Christ, the stronger the spirit of tge Christian and ending with the book of revelations.
That was Powerful, i remember back when i wasn't a Christian, watching the most gory and violent animes, especially horror ones, also lust provoking ones like Highschool DXD, but now i would never again watch an Anime like Highschool DXD, not only (but also) because of the Lust Provoking Scenes, but also it does Speak against Biblical Teachings in Any Way Possible, that's why i would not touch Animes like that anymore, but there were also Animes like Shiki (2012) and Mahou Shoujo Site (Magical Girl Site) & SAO that taught me many things, and made me cry (lol) so yeah like he said be careful of your sin triggers (that's how i call it) everything that triggers you to sin, should be avoided, not only in anime but also in movies, cartoons, series, and songs, if there is any scene that may triggers you to sin, stop the anime, take a short walk, or read a chapter of the bible, and then search a new one, god bless you!
I've been a huge anime fan for many years, and I love this video. You are absolutely correct. I love the usage of scripture and that you didn't just condemn all anime like so many people do. I have noticed that I am a lot less inclined to watch the more fanservice type anime out there. It's just not appealing anymore. Yes it is the same for me! We grow a sense of discernment as our relationship with Christ grows. The truth is even in non anime media you can’t escape the portrayal of sin. However it as Paul says ”Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.“ (Philippians 4:8 ) It is better for us to surround our selves with things that are good for us. I find that certain genres do not appease me anymore like Harem, or Demons and such. And sometimes it’s the plot that promotes (instead of condemning) sinful things like murder and sexual immorality. Sometimes it’s even single moments in the show. At the end of the day we should listen to the convictions of the Holy Spirit. In our media and in our day to day. Stay away if we can, but most importantly constantly delve into the Word so that the Devil is not able to get a foothold on us through the things we watch

I also teared up while watching him describe it. Another great life changing anime movie is "A Silent Voice". It's about a boy that bullies a deaf girl and then is convicted of cruelty. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend it.

LOVE THIS!!! I've learned all three of these lessons--thankfully NOT the hard way. The hardest part for me was honestly just telling my friends (even Christian ones) "Nah, I won't watch that," because I was afraid of their reactions. "What, you think you're better than me? What about THIS show you watch, or THIS game you play? How is that any different?!" I don't have my "Do's and Don'ts" down to a science--it's not like I have a spreadsheet or a spectrum of the "Sin-O-Meter" to point you to--but I just follow my conscience. Sometimes Holy Spirit will show me why something's not for me, and sometimes I just feel it. I love how you described the criteria we should follow: discerning what TRIGGERS us. The only other advice I'd add for somebody reading this is that you shouldn't base what you watch, read or play off of "how much you can handle;" if there's any amount of something that bothers you, you should consider giving it up. I'm taking this out of context, but "a little yeast permeates the whole dough". Your triggers don't have to be concerned with temptations, either: it could simply be that you feel it's wrong. You set an example for others, whether for yourself, your friends, family, children under your care, etc. Sometimes God will call you away from something simply because He's giving you more responsibility for yourself and others. I'm trying to start my own UA-cam channel centered around gaming and Christian content, for example, and Holy Spirit told me that I shouldn't play anything that I wouldn't be comfortable sharing with others, even when I'm not recording for content. What I was playing before wasn't convicting me of sin, but I've decided not to consume any media from now on which doesn't have a hopeful and inspiring message. For example, "Attack On Titan" was a show that I enjoyed, because I connected with the raw human emotion and struggle, but it ultimately has a very bleak outlook on life and human nature, so I dropped it. Be wary, as well, of "searing your conscience". Basically, that's what happens when you make allowances for sin and ignore your convictions about wrong behavior long enough that you no longer feel that tug on your heart to turn away. More often than not, it happens slowly over time, as you convince yourself "Well, it's not THAT bad; it's only a little suggestive, or a little violent". It is NOT, in fact, a sign that you've "matured" or "grown up," it's a sign that you've burned your skin enough that you no longer feel the pain. But God can reverse the process, if you ask Him for help and get serious about what He's asking you to do or not do. Who CARES if you get made fun for being a baby or a weakling or a goody-two-shoes?! If that's how your friends respond, then they need to see your example. And if they make a big deal about it, maybe you need new friends. Don't try to gain favor with people and lose your soul in the process! Your only concern is doing what's right for you, and setting the example for others to follow! And the final thing I'll say is this: Don't worry about "having nothing to watch, read or play" if you get rid of [insert thing here]. God will replace what you've lost with BETTER things--first and foremost, Himself and His Word! He'll give you things that don't just fill your time, but fill you with LIFE and feed the very essence of your SOUL! It's also convenient to get rid of things, because with less things you'll spend more time with the things that you REALLY love! You won't be rushing to finish something and move on to the next one; you'll genuinely take your time, and get more out of it in the end. It's also great for saving money, time management, and developing a more varied lifestyle! So, in effect: 1. Love God with everything you've got; 2. For me Allmight was and is my biggest inspiration in my lowest, when he told deku he could be a hero I cried , when he said he smiles to scare the fear away I felt that. Id like to think God used this to speak in a way I would understand him better so much so that it blew my mind when I read in John 6:20 in the NLT and Christ says “Don’t be afraid. I am here!” which is almost word for word what Allmight says.
You should absolutely watch Bullbuster. It's a safe drama like Sakura Quest, but delivers an action story in the Real Robot genre in the most grounded of ways, while taking jabs at edgier works like those of Bong Joon-ho and Hideaki Anno. It deals wth very evocative topics like workplace morality, work ETHIC, warfare (for the individual, no wars happen), and relationship to nature. For a certain little easter egg is the only reason I'm suggesting this HERE, but I'm genuinely excited, it sort of reminds me of Stan Lee's anime ventures. But it's part of the anime mainstream, that Western audiences often ignore for some superheor schlock an equate THAT to "anime".

Thanks for covering this topic. For the last year or so, I had to stop watching anime because the ones I was watching were causing me to sin. I love Japan and I've been learning Japanese on and off again for 3 years now. But Japan became an idol for me, and my former obsession with wanting to be married took over my life. I ended up in a really bad place mentally and hated myself every time I would be stuck in that sin cycle. But praise be to God that recently, I have been set free from that cycle, and have slowly and more carefully getting back into anime again. Japan became a part of my life when I started learning their language and culture. And I'm so thankful Jesus has given me a renewed healthy relationship with the country and its culture. This video was just proof of what God already told me to do when I was ready to give anime a go again. Japan and anime aren't my life, Jesus is, but I'm thankful that I can pursue my hobbies again without feeling so guilty and having that self hatred.

@@GalaxyCatPlaysHere is some advice l recently learned deleting a few loved games. I won’t play a game and get attached to it like l did with CODM or T3 Arena who both have demonic themes. Think and see if you can surrender all to Jesus and never do those things again. Everytime l did that l imagined the game and it was stuck in my heart. Right now l am playing a few more FPS games which l dislike or can delete whenever but l think l can put those games to rest now

This was an amazing video. I have been growing in my walk with Christ and recently I’ve struggled with specifically anime. I love anime, not as an idol but as entertainment. I have been struggling with certain anime’s being triggers and whether or not I need to completely cut them out. I agree at 7:38 there is a cartoon that i once felt drawn to, Hazbin Hotel and once i finally decided to watch it and check out why, i realized all the blasphemy it had, the lies about how lucifer was an innocent dreamer or wisher. I couldnt keep watching, tiktoks were all over my fyp after that about it. like if it was following me but i decided to warn my family about instead of watching it.
You’re not alone. I stopped watching Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss. Helluva Boss/Hazbin is rather inaccurate and comes from Vivziepop’s flawed understanding of the Bible. Not only that, but good is lampooned to the point of being a Walmart supervisor, uncaring for those who sinned. Not only that but Blitzo and his gang swear so much and it’s unnecessary. Overall the show’s writing is bad and I decided to jump ship.

I love Rosie and Carmilla Carmine, but overall I don’t like the show. Plus with all the sacreligion and wrong takes of real people in the Bible (Adam for example) it worries me that people will be deceived into thinking this show is an accurate portrayal of Christianity. I told my friend that if they show God or Jesus in some way, then I’m done. But thinking more about it, I probably should stop now regardless.
I've noticed that a lot of anime contain esoteric spiritual ideas, both of the eastern and western religions. In a lot of ways anime was my introduction to spirituality outside of mainstream Christianity. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, for example, pulls a lot from Alchemy, Hermeticism, and Kabbalah. Many shows have Buddhism and Shintoism baked in (naturally, since anime comes from Japan, where those are the main religions) I hadn't really questioned Anime's impact on me spiritually in this regard, but my investigation of those things have grown over the years. It really just dawned on me, watching this video, that when it comes to the "food sacrificed to idols" and things that will cause people to stumble, I think our current Christian society focus almost exclusively on sexual content.
Yup when honestly I think if someone isn’t as spiritually guarded and knowledgeable in area or solid in the faith (because a lot of us are still babes in the faith and can be swayed by the slightest influence) should stay away from anime that includes those elements blatantly. I know kids who watched anime and started doing yoga poses and had to nip it in the bud because they didn’t know any better and one of the popular anime which is jjk is not for everybody because of how heavy it deals with bhuddism and the occult. I myself am having a battle of whether or not I want to continue watching it because while the content isn’t having an influence on me I know the Bible also speaks on staying away from all appearance of evil which I’m okay if I have to cut it off. And I do take breaks because I always love stories of obvious good vs evil but the good characters also displaying mercy to those even their enemies like MHA. But this video was on point especially with the idolatry. Social media and anime are a big problem for people because it can easily become an idol and people not realize it

Buddhist folkores, philosophy and mystics are driving concepts in famous shonen and seinen anime. Shonen like Dragon ball, Naruto,one piece and bleach are majorly based on buddhism. Aizen myoo is actually a god of wisdom in buddhism (and Hinduism). Berserk and vagabond are also based on Buddhism
Exactly. As I've grown in my faith, there are certain anime I no longer watch. Mainly shows that romanticize demons. I watched Inuyasha when I was younger but it's something I no longer watch now. If I see a show is introducing a demon character and portraying them in a positive light, I stop watching.

5:32 I know this plot-line anywhere, hes talking about Clannad Afterstory, its season 2 from season 1 of Clannad. Season 1 is the story of how the parents got together, and season 2 is the story of what happens to the family. If you can get past the "bug-eyed" art-style of 90's anime then I would also highly recommend this show. Like he says in the video, it will make you tear up and at most...cry.

Clannad: after story - is the one he is talking about...I watched that when I was 17 and I cried like a baby! It is a super emotional story and very much affected me too! It's a wholesome story for sure!
I think he’s actualy talking about the movie as well the movie dives deeper into the depression the ML goes through. It’s more heart wrenching because she doesn’t come back in the movie. In the show they make a miracle. And she lives in the end. Hope that helps but I love all of Clannad (yes I learned I can cry too haha)

So sometimes when it comes to certain things I’m not sure about I get a little worried that I might accidentally do something that’ll disappoint God. I suggest “my roommate is a cat” it’s a comedy about a reclusive author who adopts a cat as inspiration for his next book but soon finds himself outside his comfort zone as he has to awkwardly interact with new people in order to care for his new companion. It’s a very sweet and very wholesome anime. Also you shouldn’t have to worry about triggers as the character designs are very modest with no revealing clothing. Also the episodes will alternate between telling the same scenarios once from the author’s point of view and then the cat’s point of view.

You are an absolute real one for making this video. I appreciate how you didn’t take a hard headed religious approach to this but you were more human (in a relatable sense) about it and that’s what the world needs.
A silent voice is a super good one, full of beautiful animation, and a deep enjoyable story, has zero nudity in it, i highly reccomend it as a christian, its super inspiring in general, but if you are working on your own anime/manga its even more so inspiring imo, im currently working on 2 christian manga series right now, and practicing animation for when im ready to get a team together and make an official anime 😊❤️
Immersing myself in God's Word eventually made me abandon watching anime. My stance: Romans 14. If it deters your faith, abandon the show. If it's inspiring, stick with it. Nice Clannad reference, btw!
As a former anime fan who stopped watching animé for God, I think there is Another big factor to considere : is it worth your time? Because even if an anime isn't leading you to sin and does no wrong to you, it will mostly not do anything good either (except the few lessons you could learn, but really you would learn much more and faster doing other things so let's forget that). As followers of Christ, we have to know that Christ left us with a BIG mission and a lot of work. If we look at Jesus, He was spending all His time doing good to others, teaching and helping, and He called us to do the same as His followers. We have a little time on this earth and it's all God's gift, so can we really take this time God's offers us to binge watch animes or play videos games all day long, while putting aside all the work and good deeds God would like us to do, while putting aside Bible studies and prayers? As christians we should considere asking God how to use or time with wisdom to do His will. That being said, im not saying that spending 20 minutes watching an anime episode is a bad thing, but rather let's not forget all what God asks to us and and let's remember to use wisdom in our time management.
I spent years trying to do all the good deeds that you're talking about- looking for places to volunteer at church, a mission, anywhere. Couldn't find a place to fit in. Nobody really needed me, they didn't have enough work for me, and I was just in the way. I played video games at the time, just a little bit, an hour or so a day, and felt guilty about even that. Doing everything that I could to try to get away from gaming, and this was before I started getting into manga or anime. And I just felt drained. In addition, I had, for several years before that, considered the idea of studying game design. So, a career path of not only wasting my own time on playing games, but also causing other people to waste their time, at least from your perspective. I was consumed with guilt and kept teeter-tottering between gaming and not gaming. Forcing myself to try to conform to the image of a "good Christian" that I had spent a lifetime building up in my head. And I just couldn't fit into that role. Got so bad that I would beg God to strip me of everything, my job, my home, everything, and force me to live in the woods or in a cave like a hermit just so I could feel like I had given up my life and was truly following Him. Never had the guts to do such a thing, myself, and God never gave me the courage to do it. Started streaming on Twitch about a year and a half ago. It's been very slow going, but I now have about 3 or 4 regular or semi-regular viewers that drop in every so often. Thought I was wasting my time, but I enjoyed them talking to me. Because I am surrounded by "good Christians," both at work and at church. And they disgust me. See, I'm a very blunt and direct person. I cannot stand insincerity and disingenuousness. And I sometimes think I have a built-in lie detector. And all these "good Christians" really don't want anything to do with me, because I call them out. I actually have called out my entire Sunday school class on more than one occasion. They get, um, extremely quiet. And more distant from me. But funnily enough, they can't ever tell me outright that I'm actually wrong about what I say. So even though I hated myself for "wasting time" on streaming games 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, I kept doing it, because a couple of people would come back. Not like the people at church who only ever seemed to talk to me because they knew some part of my life's story and pitied me and thought that taking me to lunch one time would allow them to tick off their good deed for the day. But my viewers come back because, for whatever reason, they want to. And I finally realized why just the other day. One teenager, my most regular viewer, who doesn't normally watch Twitch at all on weekends, suddenly showed up in my Saturday stream. I asked why and they said, "Oh, today's just an exception." A bit later, they said they'd had a panic attack and they were trying to calm down. They came to my stream to calm down from a panic attack. I've had panic attacks. They're horrible. You really, really, really just want anything that makes you feel settled inside. And this person chose to come to ME to find that. Which can only mean that God is using me to help people. And in case you're wondering, yes, I do talk about the Bible in my streams. I have yet to have a viewer really take offense to it. I'm sure I will someday, but they all seem to respect my opinion, just as I try to respect theirs. As for my personal life, I have 4 Bible studies a day, a full-time job, no family because they were all abusive and I had to cut them out of my life to protect myself, no friends because of everything I said above about all the Christians around me being insincere and fake, and I try to stay in communication with God almost nonstop. I also started volunteering at a resale house that supports a local Christian ministry. Tried to get into any department besides electronics, because I wanted to get away from Internet and games and stuff. Literally the only place they had to put me was in the DVD section. Even tho it was the last place I wanted to be, it felt right- my mom had a huge DVD library, and I spent a good bit of my life keeping it in order. So doing the exact same thing as a way to support a Christian ministry was serendipitous, I suppose. (Just another way of saying "God's will.") As for anime and manga, I only just recently got into it, within the last couple of months or so. The only series I've finished so far is Charlotte. And man, oh, man. The number of Biblical themes in that series. I've made quite a few posts on Tumblr about the Biblical themes in that show. And they've gotten a few likes and reblogs, so I know they're reaching people. All that to say this: don't judge people. You have no clue what God is doing in someone else's life. Paul said in Corinthians that the uncomely members are just as important as the apostles. Don't tell me I'm wasting my time when I can look back at how I got here and point to at least a dozen different times when God was nudging me along this path. And maybe for someone else, maybe for most people, gaming and anime and manga really are a waste of time. But it's not my place to say. Nor is it yours. Because I only know for certain what I see God doing in my life. And you only know for certain what He's doing in your life. So keep your judgments to yourself.
@@chrissysonicutdrloz Do you think the original comment is really trying to pass judgement? Is it ever wrong to encourage others to further conform their lives to Christlikeness? There is ALWAYS room to grow and change and a Christian should never feel perfectly safe with themselves and their level of maturity or sanctification. We should always be eager for more growth and excited to receive encouragement toward greater righteousness and selflessness. But be careful of thinking that the Christian life should ever be about anxiety or self-condemnation or shame. For one, because any encouragement we receive is a gift from God. And two, cuz even just by hating or condemning oneself or being anxious over how to improve, its an act of pride because it means we're paying more attention to our standard of righteousness, whatever it is, and not Gods. No one is good enough that they should become 'comfortable' or 'complacent' in their growth. So really, time spent hating and condemning oneself is useless at best and sinful at worst. If we're truly living for Gods standard, we should never seek to be angry that we aren't at some level of righteousness that we want to be at. The only productive and humble thing to do is always seek to improve for God. We should never be ashamed of where God has placed us now and will place us in our sanctification. That also means that if there's a chance to change and grow, we should always try to take it, gladly and in thanks to God for placing us there. This all being said, it is true that opportunities to worship are in many places. Anime or gaming itself is not "taboo." What should be focused on is our conduct and responses to the things we engage in like anime or gaming. If it causes us to sin, obviously we have a problem. Anime led me to lots of sin and ungodliness in my life and in my thinking before I became a Christian. If there's opportunities for worship like talking bible over stream, that's good. But if you're also using that time streaming to become self-pleased and bitter toward other good teachings and encouragements, then consider either mending this issue before moving forward, or taking a break if it causes you to sin in this way. I am sorry to hear that other Christians around you don't treat you as their own. The kingdom of God is a place where believers are made brothers and sisters in Christ, so to hear they don't do that for you is regrettable. But be careful also that you're not using it as an opportunity to forsake your calling to be a sister in Christ to them also. Like I said before, no Christian is ever at a state of "good enough" because no one is justified before God by their works. So chances are there's lots of opportunity to love them also. One of my favorite pieces of scripture is the Good Samaritan story. We should always seek to be the good Samaritan, even when it feels like we're the man who was beaten and passed by the priest and Levite. The story happened, after all, because a man was approaching Jesus asking how to enter heaven, and essentially, how to love correctly. The problem is he was also not willing to take "Love God" and "Love your neighbor" at face value, and so he came up with a copout question of "who is my neighbor?" If you ever find yourself unsure of who your neighbor is whom you should be loving, then take Jesus words for what they are and be a neighbor. It's great that you are doing that for those who join your streams, but the greater precedent is your brethren in Christ because Jesus loved the church. Or is it just not Jesus place to set an example for Christians because everyone's got 'their own way' and 'their own life'? Is it just not the original commenters place to encourage setting aside gaming and anime in favor of Godly conduct when those things get in the way? Is it just not my place to write this comment either even if its based in scripture and intended at encouragement for your walk with Christ? Division and separation of beliefs within the church is energized by Satan, not God. And as for loving God, which takes precedent over loving our neighbor, its knowing that any love we show or good we do to our neighbors is all to honor and love God and His calling for us. I hope this all helps you in your run for God! It's always good to be receptive to encouragement because all of it is done in love!
you know there’s a thing called rest? when you come home after a long day of work… your allowed to watch tv lol. works aren’t everything, it’s how live in the small moments. you don’t need to be replacing every time you could be watching tv or playing video games with donating to charity.
@@chxrish72Sure, but what are you watching. God didn't say, "Hey, I know you're tired, so you can take a break from Me for an hour!" He commands us to love Him with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all of our strength and with all of our mind. And that in WHATEVER we do we do unto the glory of God. He understands perfectly well we need rest but that's not a valid excuse to compromise and watch something that is against Him, even if it's something 'small' like a little demonic theme here and there, or a curse word, or God's name being used in vain -- I mean, TOTALLY fine if it's just one time in a TV show or a movie, ammirite? Entertainment was and still is my greatest battle. And I couldn't justify watching secular entertainment anymore. Even kids shows... And it wasn't out of guilt, I just, started really seeing it. I just care about God more than a dumb movie, game or tv show that gives me no true satisfaction of the soul. God does only. So I ask again, what are you watching? What are you using the breath of your lungs and the beating of your heart that God gifted to you for? We're all gonna die, or Jesus will take us -- what do you want Him to have seen you doing with what He gave you?
This past year, I came to the realization that these mediums of entertainment had become a sort of idol in my life, and I felt compelled to throw it all away because it was causing distractions and I never wanted to read the bible even though I knew I should. I threw away all my posters and anything I felt was an "idol" or "icon." I'm really glad I made that decision. I've since been able to listen to audio books and read the bible on my phone as well as my study bible, I've read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John probably six plus times at this point. Looking forward to reading more of the other books as well. I also got a prayer journal a few days ago and now I've got a daily activity to look forward to!

I threw out all anime from my life. Because it was all I ever wanted to do. And after I threw it out I realized I had so many hobbies I was neglecting along with my relationship with God. Maybe someday when I'm more mature I could try watching an anime again but for now I'm learning to exercise moderation in everything else I do. Video games with anime art styles don't count to me like Smash bros, or Genshin impact because they don't give me that same idolatry feeling but I've stayed away from Anime. I'm so glad your relationship with God has Strengthened❤️🙂
Overconsumption of anything isn't healthy. You must've been over consuming so like anything, you need to take a break to clear your mind yes, but to give it all up and blame it on anime, it probably wasn't the best way to go. Give it up for a few days or a week, read the bible, or do something that will relax you. Then come back to it and enjoy anime. Anime isn't a way of life like many would have you believe, it's just a form of entertainment. It's all it is, to entertain.

Recently I realize this is a rule or law I put on myself when in reality God wants us to enjoy ourselves but just be careful how things affect us. And take breaks if needed. I have OCD so it's always all or nothing!! Always nagging me to prove myself to God. When in reality moderation is an option.
The anime, _Spy family,_ is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the anime world. It would be a stretch to say that it has *any* sexual themes. I think that it is a show that could be watched by all Christians. Plus, it’s a piece of modern media that is a direct proponent of the nuclear family. How rare!
Spy x Family is delightful. My husband and I love it because it's just sweet and fun. The only objections I can think of are that the father and mother are a spy and an assassin so there is some violence although nothing too over the top and that the mother's outfit when doing assassinations is a tad more revealing than some people might be comfortable with if there are young children watching. I would recommend it to anyone though to at least give it a try.

As a Christian and anime freak, I agree with your message. To me, I really don’t pay attention to any weird proctoring images; I just enjoy the storytelling, detail quality, and movement animation. I made like the fantasy characters, but I’m not obsessed with or worshipping them.
I am very happy you covered this topic. As a Christian, I've opted to stay away from certain anime due to explicit imagery and I just couldn't watch it. However, I have also found anime that I can watch. One of my favorites actually has a valuable lesson. Life is precious and while death is painful to see, we can honor the memories of those we've lost by helping those who are still with us and fight for a better tomorrow knowing that we can make a difference.
I think it's the same way with any form of entertainment. Video games, movies, etc. You should always take these 3 considerations when you engage in media. This is why it may be ok for one Christian to play a game like Doom and another might not think it's ok for them. It's all about weather you consider it beneficial or harmful to your relationship with God.
I've been wanting to write a manga but had no idea how to do it to honor God, Jesus using stories to teach lessons that God wants us to learn gives me peace of mind. I feel more confident to do it. Thank you.

I love anime and I agree with what the video says. But also there are often occultism, witchcraft, spells, demons, curses in anime so yes we have to choose carefuly the anime we watch to not expose our souls to evil things.
Haha yes. Clannad taught me a lesson too. The importance of family. Your friends cant be there like a good family can. And id like you remind you. When the mother was sick in the show as a child the father prayed and she was healed. When she became sick again her father told tomoya to "pray". I LOVE this! As a Christian who is a cinephile I think this can be applied to almost any film /cinema. For instance the film Good Will Hunting taught me a lot about self-destruction and what I was doing in my own sin. Although Matt Damon may not know God, God used that film to teach me some valuable things.
I normally don't comment on many videos, but this really helped me. Though I don't watch anime (much, I barely know any), I've been questioning what shows I can watch - Danny Phantom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, some sitcoms, things like that. I never felt away from God with these shows because I either knew they were fake or I didn't enjoy the lewd jokes (in one certain sitcom). I also write novels and I've been questioning if I can even write/watch fantasy. This helped answer both of these questions. While I'd figured some things out before through prayer and looking, this gave me a direction and more solid answer than some articles/people. I've started infusing Christian roots and themes within my stories while still keeping the fantasy/magic aspect. Thank you! God bless! ❤ Edit: If you see this, thank you for the heart! Now I know it's on the person and their walk with God. I can watch the sitcoms as long as it doesn't push me toward sin. This really, really helped.
There's definitely a lot of weird sexual stuff going on in a lot of anime. But just like you mentioned in the video, anime is a genre that is filled with heroic characters, who often take the path that's hard, rather than the path that's convenient, and I think that's a great lesson for people.
This is true, although it seems to be part of the larger trend of there being more weird sexual stuff being included in all forms of media as time goes on. I've watched a lot of older anime and old media and there seems to be less weird sexuality in old anime/media than in recent anime/media.

I love this. Clannad is what made me love anime, slice of life/rom coms are my absolute favourites, so when I saw you talking about Clannad, I completely related. Getting emotional again just thinking about it... God uses stories like that to teach us about how to love again, even if we feel broken.
I used to watch anime when I was younger but honestly, I made television an idol, including anime. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an anime that actually has themes that glorify God (but Studio Ghibli movies are probably your best bet) simply because the amount of violence and erotic material overwhelms those otherwise wholesome themes. Everybody is different, but honestly, I feel as if television and film in general is incredibly difficult to watch as a believer, if you're going all in on faith.
While Vinland Saga certainly has a lot of period appropriate violence as it's set in the age of the Vikings, it does not glorify violence and the main character has to go on a journey of letting go of the desire for revenge and learning that violence should only be a last resort for defense. Very Christian in theme and when Christianity shows up in the story, it's generally shown pretty favorably which was a nice surprise.
Yeah vinland saga is incredible and the second season quotes scripture multiple times. I mean it shows in the first season even the religious persecutions Christians faced in the age of the vikings.

I love your perspective on this! Thanks! When I gave my life to Jesus, I stopped watching secular shows, movies, and anime, and dedicated my life to following Him and ministry. I went years just focusing on the Word and going to church, but deep down I yearned for it. I was praying one time and somehow, anime music from shows I used to love started playing in my head. After much prayer and “permission from God,” I watched the video. The lyrics were very deep and profound. I saw a few anime music videos and it really encouraged me. Then my wife came to me with some hard questions an hour or so later. The amazing thing was the lyrics addressed her question and she was in tears. Then she followed it up with another question and it was addressed by the next video. It was so awesome to see God ministering to me and my wife in such an unconventional way that she and I could relate to. Thanks again for your insight. God bless:)

Bro just referenced Clannad Afterstory, which is the second season, lmao. Its my favorite anime, and its very wholesome, so I recommend it to other Christians.
Vinland saga is one of the most Christian animes youll love as a Christian.. The story doesn't EXACTLY have a simple understanding of the messags but as you watch/read through it becomes so clear and inspiringly beautiful.
Vinland Saga is beautiful. I really loved the part in the most recent season where Thorfinn heard the Sermon on the Mount being read and was really taking it in.
Vinland Saga was so inspiring. I was in a bad state emotionally and I was wondering the why's of my life and then I understood the chaos of ife without Christ, life without faith and how people raised with similar beliefs and culture still decimate and destroy one another for fun just floored me. My problems seemed so insignificant and my faith was just growing so much. I don't understand the Devil's advocate stance or what it is to live amongst non-Christians or non-religious people. I have grown up in a bubble and to see the world outside of the bubble really opened up my eyes to the folly the bible talks about. I also became a bit of a history nerd and consumed all historical media on vikings; their rise, fall and conversion to Christianity.
Lately I've been struggling with belief and I've just felt like reading the Bible was boring. I've been searching for entertainment on UA-cam that includes Christianity, and I found this channel! Your voice is calming, the animation is smooth, and the best of all- it teaches Christianity! This is the first video I've watched of this channel, and hey, I'm pretty into it. Thanks!

Almost looked at this holding my breath for a beat down on anime but by God’s grace this was a really fair assessment on watching it. You hit the nail on the head with #3. For example in one anime called Bleach the main villain is a guy named aizen. He was a former soul captain (similar to an archangel) who at first glance seemed really nice til his evil intent was revealed. He wanted more power and to rule heaven. His main ability is when he unsheaths his sword he can cast really deceptive illusions. Kinda reminds of a certain antagonist in the Bible that has similar abilities (Ezekiel 28:12)
Hmm yea I was just reading the chapter but I had to read down a bit more and I guess Aizen does seem like this "king of Tyre" and the bible describes him in latter verses saying that he became proud and i can agree that Aizen also became that way simularily! 😮 Thx for sharing! I absolutely love this video. I'm a big fan of anime, and I used to run a Christian anime club (I'm still part of the club, but stepped down from leadership because of things going on in my personal life). One of the things we did once was make a list of animes that were safe for Christians to watch, and another one that had animes that were safe for children to watch, and that question of something being okay for one person possibly being a stumbling block for another did come up. With the regular list, we cautioned each other to stop watching if we felt that the content was not good for us. And with the list for kids, we greatly emphasized that the parents of the children should screen the anime first to decide if they agree or not if their child can watch that anime. There are animes I can watch that others can't because I'm strongly rooted in my faith and know right from wrong. And there are animes that others can watch that others can. And sometimes there will be animes that you can't watch at one period of time, but later on you can. There was an anime recommended to me once by my sister, and at that time, that anime ended up being very bad for me because it had themes that I could not handle at that time. But now, I can watch it because I can better handle those themes, and I always warn people about this when recommending this particular anime exactly because of my experience with watching it for the first time. "Hey, this is a great anime, but the themes are heavy. Death is talked about a lot, and if you are in a state of mind where you are not mentally stable, don't watch it." And the stuff about valuable life lessons you can find in anime! Yes! I've learned so many valuable life lessons rooted in Scripture through anime. The Christian community will probably always continue to argue over whether anime is okay or not, but at the end of the day, I think these things you talked about are a really great starting point for us Christians who do enjoy anime and want to keep our souls and the souls of others safe while doing so.
I didn't expect to learn much from this video because I don't watch anime, or much of anything for that matter. I was simply curious when this popped up in my recommendations. However I do play videogames. And this video kinda confirmed something I had wondered myself about when it comes to video games and media in general. That we can learn important lessons through stories. I recently started playing Final Fantasy XIV with some friends, and I find myself often thinking to myself about biblical parallels I can make. I've played through several expansions of the game and it's typically classic light hearted fantasy stories, of course they have their emotional ups and downs. The most recent expansion I finished I had a moment where I had to step away from the game however. As a Christian I know demons are real, and I'm not afraid of them because I know God is on my side. However I do still get mild anxiety attacks when I see something "supernatural" in media. This latest expansion I played dropped a scene like that without warning. And those scenes are to me knowledge almost non existent in the franchise... I don't know how to describe it but I tried not to even look, from what little I did see it felt evil... And I questioned at that moment if I should just drop the game all together. Despite having an accumulated several hundred hours in story where e nothing like that happened. In the end I pushed through and the expansion never did a scene like that again. But it still didn't sit right with me. I kinda rambled for a bit there. My point was supposed to focus on the fact that throughout this darker than average themed story I tend to keep my eye on God. Idk if any of this makes sense... I've never been good at explaining my thoughts. I Guess to put it simply, I've learned a lot of lessons from stories in my life. All anime that is realesed on t.v is wicked as I came to Christ I realized this,their does not seem to be one anime that does not have cursing,pornographic over sexualization,murder,fighting,withcraft,pedophila,false religions,false spiritual practice. Vinland saga is so amazing, tells a great story, and has many Christan values. Another Funny one for a good laugh is Gintama, There is many good anime, Dbz, Mha, Gurren Laggan (sometimes a little reavealing) but gives the greatest messages ever.
I just realized that Jesus' face in the beginning of the video is with All Might's features LOL. Whatever I was hesitant about watching this video, I thought that would be one of these that says that anime isn't good and these things but I thought a little and that don't seemed like that, and it really isn't. I really enjoy a lot of anime and manga especially the ones that teach lessons or go into philosophy sometimes even indirectly. Death Note for example shows how a prideful person if given power like God can become corrupted. Vinland Saga has so many, but my favorite is the “I have no enemies” which is directly related to Matthew 5:43 “love your enemies” it’s even quoted in the show! And my favorite of all is probably JoJo part 5 Golden Wind which introduces the concept of having resolve is not enough to defeat evil because sometimes evil has the same resolve as you, and that sacrifice is necessary to overcome it.

One BIG point I want to include that I only really noticed this year when I was reborn is anime's Eastern Mysthecism aspects. I listen to a lot of Jmusic where those themes are more obvious, but thanks to anime, I essentially grew up believing that "I can do anything if I believe in myself and never give up". This mindset certainly got me far in life, I will admit. Even if people doubted me, I always used that as motivation to pursue my dreams. And even if people made fun of my interests, it's always the weirdos in these shows that made a difference haha. I was never ashamed of my religion or being different. I simply did what I enjoyed doing the most. HOWEVER, this mindset created a barrier between me and God because I always felt I could do whatever with my own power and hard work. I would certainly thank him for protecting and providing for me, but I didn't want to bother him by asking for something I could get myself. Growing up in a legalistic church (SDA), I even felt I could do better at keeping the law for example. Leaning on others and asking for help was just something I never wanted to do, nor had anyone to go to either way. But I had a serious wakeup call as I looked back and realized I sinned too much and needed a savior, and then I was reborn. And even then, I still didn't know what to pray or ask for. I didn't want to bother God with petty requests. But Revelation 3 really hit me like a brick and it made me want to come to God about everything: "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent." Before, I was living as the main character in my own world, but now I'm happy to be a side character/witness in the ultimate story of God. I can't take any credit, and I'm not anyone important, but God still loves me and wants me to take part in his kingdom, even though I don't deserve it 😍
I feel identified with what you wrote since the confidence that many characters portray is the confidence we need in life, especially during the teen years and early adulthood. Today I like to think that Jesus is waiting for some Christians to take action and do things greater than he did. That is quite a huge task by the way but I believe it possible. Sometimes I think that a second coming won't happen until we realize how powerful we truly are if we transform our animal nature to a more spiritual one. This is what some animes and other great philosophy books teach. I feel you are in the right path, obey when it's appropriate but be a rebel when anyone with "supposedly" divine authority tells you that you are not capable or enough. The real message Jesus wants to give us is that we are capable and enough if we follow a path like his. :)

It sounds like you have a different view in that we can all come together and fix the world, or that a savior won't come until we all reach a certain level of enlightenment and such. I don't remember what religions or christian sects believe that, probably mormonism. There's certainly a lot of new beliefs that I only dug into this year. I learned bout other big religions, philosophy, and evolution in school...but only found out bout new age, satanism, wiccan this year...and also had a friend who was interested in Buddism which he said has Christ Consciousness, and he wanted to become a god....I didn't think people were actually pursuing Satan's temptation that we can become gods 😅 Also didn't know there's gnosticism or whichever religion that says the God of the bible is a lower god who has trapped us and we can become bigger than him and be freed from him. It really breaks my heart to know that some acknowledge Jesus and biblical stories, but see YHWY as the bad guy and twist his word 😞 Seeing the world through a biblical spiritual lens with the Holy Spirit's guidance, everything just seems demonic at this point. Everyone's been lying to us. All these man-made religions all believe the same thing (do good, reach enlightenment, your salvation depends on you. Complete opposite of what the bible teaches). It all just makes me cling tighter to my bible and my faith cause otherwise, you'll fall into this whole deconstruction movement, or like progressives who say some rules don't apply now etc. As much of a strong, independent female I was growing up, (thankfully I was never a feminist), I thought women could be anything. But now, I agree that women shouldn't even be preachers and such. I've been shedding my tomboyness and embracing my femininity over the years once I saw that men were being better girls than me. What a shame honestly. The world has ignored and warped all of God's design with its agendas. It's doing all it can to erase anything biblical. If you don't believe in it, that's fine. It's good to figure out where your beliefs align. Just before I was saved, I was talking with my best friend who called herself spiritual. She thought she was unique in her beliefs and felt misunderstood. I didn't know demons were real until I started discussing things with her, as she was into tarot readings and interested in psychic readings, but I knew the bible was against that and wanted to warn her. Through research, I realize people actually had those powers but demons were behind it. As I dug more into it all, I realized she was more new age, and all her personal conclusions pretty much aligned with them. She also had a little bit of eastern mysthecism as well as she believed in reincarnation til we learn, and thought everything was god, including herself. It's cause I realized demons and magic were very real that I felt a real need to run back to God. Sin wasn't just against God, but can become a portal for demons. I also started using YHWY when referring to my God, cause when you just say 'God', people assume we're all talking about the same person, even though we don't see him the same nor worship him the same. People like the Buddist friend be trying to correct me about who Jesus is when I'm directly quoting the bible that says he's God, not a man that elevated to god status. I had to tell him we don't believe the same thing so don't try to mix them up. YHWY is very specific about who he is, how he wants to be worshipped, what he desires from us, and how to be saved. If you don't align with that, then you don't really believe in the bible or it's God. I choose to believe in Him and His Word wholeheartedly. I won't deviate thinking I know better. Anime essentially teaches we are gods who know best and we should follow our own hearts, but the bible says 'the heart is deceitful beyond all things and desperately wicked' (Jeremiah 17:9) and that the fear of God is the beginning of all knowledge (Proverbs 9:10) ❤️ I know I'm not God. I'm made his image, but I don't know anything before I was born, and I have no real control in this world. I have free choice, but that's about it. Don't even have free will cause other people can always get in your way. So many things are predestined from birth as our families and countries determine a lot for us. We're so fragile and so limited in power. We don't have any control when it comes to our deaths (unless of course...). We all need God. I'm just saying all this cause I know the whole 'your on the right track' usually implies people think I have yet to be enlightened or come to the knowledge of the truth, but I understand what the bible says and I'm aligning as much as I can to it. I'm not lost or confused at all. I know how this story will end. Other born again believers would feel the same as well. If you think you know more than YHWY or that there's more to life than a future living with him, then you're on some different path, and I'm not interested in exploring that haha. I have peace, hope and joy just waiting for Jesus and the idea of reigning with him one day when he finally takes over the earth and brings peace on his own terms 😄
@@kamekomiyamora I can see you are aware of one of the big themes in anime and jrpgs which is the potential of becoming divine. Evangelion, ergo proxy, Breath of Fire, etc.. I come from a christian upbringing where there are a lot of precious values that do give a sense of control and sound judgement in a world full of mixed messages and ideas of satisfying the flesh completely. Just think of the american lifestyle where every need you have can be satisfied if you pay for it. To some extent, this has corrupted the whole world. We really need to set apart from that if we wish to lead a better lifestyle, no matter your creed. Anyways, after studying psychology and just living life, under a holy spirit driven consciousness ,I discovered that the traditional interpretation of the bible is too narrow if taken 100% as a historical book. We've westernized spiritual truths and live our faiths as if they were the only real connection to God. I think these kind of thoughts are selfish since other religions have deep connections to God as well. Evangelion is a great example of how growing out of a self-imposed shell can help someone become a better version of themselves and relate better to the world around them from the perspective of jewish mysticism. I remember being told as a kid to give Jesus all my hardships and just have faith in the future. Now I understand that I can pray to him however I'm also accountable for my life. A positive change comes if I have the strength of the Spirit within me and can actually make it happen in reality. While having good intentions and faith sounds christian enough, this misses the power we need to develop and apply to our daily lives. This is usually a process and it can take time. Although miracles happen. This is where some S-tier animes expose wonderful lessons of inner growth and how this inner strength is perfect for changing the world outside for the best.

Personally I’ve never idolised anime. Maybe because from early on even without being a Christian too many of what was popular was demonic themes of anime from Japan so I avoided it. I watched a few that I liked but I realised the Japanese really love demon themes lol. So I tried looking for anime that would interest me, anything to do with mystery, detectives and adventure is what I like. But as with all things I do it in moderation. What I idolised was KDrama. Glad I can watch these things without attaching myself so deeply anymore. It’s not impossible at all. We thank God for the Holy Spirit.
After thought: Maybe we Christians should gather collectively as creatives and start doing Christian themed anime. The Bible is filled with much to tell.
Personally I never was too big of an anime fan either but since I had a lot of free time now that I’m a bit older I watched Girls Und Panzer (peak anime with no fanservice) Highschool DxD (don’t watch this one)
I used to watch Anime and play video games. I used to have a TV program subscription, go to the movies, and do the usual entertainment activities people mindless do, but I have seen how the world is becoming. The end is very near, and time is in short supply. Now, I spend time reading wholesome uplifting books, the Bible and prayer. I try to encourage others to the best of my knowledge and minimized my time wasters. That was my choice, and each person is responsible for its own.
@mikeym0827 We don't know exactly when the end will be, but according to Biblical prophesies, it is safe to assume that we are very close. Christians must stay on the watch; constantly praying so that day won't come as a surprise.

Honestly you are right for number 3. I've learned so many things from anime more so than i do in school. Part of why i can understand the bible unlike other teens is because watching anime has helped me understand things like literals people, cultures, and they do give life lessons that really do help. I really like the slice of life genre, some are more romantic, some are not at all. In the past I watched or sometimes just peeked in shows displaying some sinful behaviour from which I stay away since my faith grew stronger. I really like a good anime from time to time, but got picky in a good way. That C Anime you described is still my favourite and I do think crying is what most did in the end, it was just so sad. I think the rules apply to most of non animated shows aswell, if something triggers you, you feel uncomfortable watching it or you feel it moves you away from god, do not watch it. This is why I like Sonic the Hedgehog so much. His story always centers around sacrifice and uplifting those around him. He maybe the hero and can be cocky but when his friends and loved one are in need he isn’t prideful and helps them through anything. I think every Christian, weather an anime fan or not, should watch Vinland Saga. It teaches love and forgiveness and how you can move on even when people have taken everything from you. The “love your enemies” quote from Jesus is literally in the show. It actually changed my outlook on life and helped bring me much closer to God. The first season is all about anger and revenge, but it also shows how those things only lead to destruction, and the second season is all about how to forgive and move on from your past. 10/10 would recommend. Can’t wait for season three.

An anime I love is dragon ball. It teaches us that even the worst of people can still be redeemed, especially in the case of two major characters in particular. Avengers infinity war and endgame also has me THIS close to crying too.
As a Christian you can watch anything nothing is off limits as long as nothing you watch inspires you to do something morally wrong.
I would keep in mind that Jesus talked about how coveting another man's wife is already crossing the line. So I would recommend that you focus less on your actions and more on your thoughts. And of course, don't forget to ask if this would be pleasing to God. You might not blaspheme because you watched a show, but how would God feel about you saying you enjoyed a show that blasphemes Him? Being a Christian isn't just following a set of rules like some boring religion. It's a relationship with the creator of the universe. If a show was mocking your best friend, would you still watch it?
I don't mean to accuse you of anything. I just think these are good additions to your point. But if you disagree, I would love to who your reasoning encase there is something I have overlooked.

I frequently discourage friends and family from watching popular comedy shows like the big bang theory, not just because they make fun of Christianity, but they make it seem its okay to have sex outside of marriage and have multiple sex partners. So we need to apply this to everything we watch or may influence us in any negative way

That was Powerful, i remember back when i wasn't a Christian, watching the most gory and violent animes, especially horror ones, also lust provoking ones like Highschool DXD, but now i would never again watch an Anime like Highschool DXD, not only (but also) because of the Lust Provoking Scenes, but also it does Speak against Biblical Teachings in Any Way Possible, that's why i would not touch Animes like that anymore, but there were also Animes like Shiki (2012) and Mahou Shoujo Site (Magical Girl Site) & SAO that taught me many things, and made me cry (lol) so yeah like he said be careful of your sin triggers (that's how i call it) everything that triggers you to sin, should be avoided, not only in anime but also in movies, cartoons, series, and songs, if there is any scene that may triggers you to sin, stop the anime, take a short walk, or read a chapter of the bible, and then search a new one, god bless you!
I've been a huge anime fan for many years, and I love this video. You are absolutely correct. I love the usage of scripture and that you didn't just condemn all anime like so many people do. I have noticed that I am a lot less inclined to watch the more fanservice type anime out there. It's just not appealing anymore. Yes it is the same for me! We grow a sense of discernment as our relationship with Christ grows. The truth is even in non anime media you can’t escape the portrayal of sin. However it as Paul says
”Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things.“
(Philippians 4:8 ) It is better for us to surround our selves with things that are good for us. I find that certain genres do not appease me anymore like Harem, or Demons and such. And sometimes it’s the plot that promotes (instead of condemning) sinful things like murder and sexual immorality. Sometimes it’s even single moments in the show. At the end of the day we should listen to the convictions of the Holy Spirit. In our media and in our day to day. Stay away if we can, but most importantly constantly delve into the Word so that the Devil is not able to get a foothold on us through the things we watch

Giant fan of Clannad too man, I watched that about half a year ago and was tearing up just from you describing it. It's genuinely a life-changing show
When he was describing the storyline I was like woah is that Clannad?! I say it's impossible not to cry by watching all of Clannad and After Story.
I loved Clannad too.. I was like dang.. it sounds like he's talking about Clannad but I wasn't entirely sure since he didn't mention the other part.

Another great life changing anime movie is "A Silent Voice". It's about a boy that bullies a deaf girl and then is convicted of cruelty. If you haven't watched it yet, I highly recommend it.

LOVE THIS!!! I've learned all three of these lessons--thankfully NOT the hard way. The hardest part for me was honestly just telling my friends (even Christian ones) "Nah, I won't watch that," because I was afraid of their reactions. "What, you think you're better than me? What about THIS show you watch, or THIS game you play? How is that any different?!" I don't have my "Do's and Don'ts" down to a science--it's not like I have a spreadsheet or a spectrum of the "Sin-O-Meter" to point you to--but I just follow my conscience. Sometimes Holy Spirit will show me why something's not for me, and sometimes I just feel it. I love how you described the criteria we should follow: discerning what TRIGGERS us.
The only other advice I'd add for somebody reading this is that you shouldn't base what you watch, read or play off of "how much you can handle;" if there's any amount of something that bothers you, you should consider giving it up. I'm taking this out of context, but "a little yeast permeates the whole dough". Your triggers don't have to be concerned with temptations, either: it could simply be that you feel it's wrong. You set an example for others, whether for yourself, your friends, family, children under your care, etc. Sometimes God will call you away from something simply because He's giving you more responsibility for yourself and others. I'm trying to start my own UA-cam channel centered around gaming and Christian content, for example, and Holy Spirit told me that I shouldn't play anything that I wouldn't be comfortable sharing with others, even when I'm not recording for content. What I was playing before wasn't convicting me of sin, but I've decided not to consume any media from now on which doesn't have a hopeful and inspiring message. For example, "Attack On Titan" was a show that I enjoyed, because I connected with the raw human emotion and struggle, but it ultimately has a very bleak outlook on life and human nature, so I dropped it.
Be wary, as well, of "searing your conscience". Basically, that's what happens when you make allowances for sin and ignore your convictions about wrong behavior long enough that you no longer feel that tug on your heart to turn away. More often than not, it happens slowly over time, as you convince yourself "Well, it's not THAT bad; it's only a little suggestive, or a little violent". It is NOT, in fact, a sign that you've "matured" or "grown up," it's a sign that you've burned your skin enough that you no longer feel the pain. But God can reverse the process, if you ask Him for help and get serious about what He's asking you to do or not do. Who CARES if you get made fun for being a baby or a weakling or a goody-two-shoes?! If that's how your friends respond, then they need to see your example. And if they make a big deal about it, maybe you need new friends. Don't try to gain favor with people and lose your soul in the process! Your only concern is doing what's right for you, and setting the example for others to follow!
And the final thing I'll say is this: Don't worry about "having nothing to watch, read or play" if you get rid of [insert thing here]. God will replace what you've lost with BETTER things--first and foremost, Himself and His Word! He'll give you things that don't just fill your time, but fill you with LIFE and feed the very essence of your SOUL! It's also convenient to get rid of things, because with less things you'll spend more time with the things that you REALLY love! You won't be rushing to finish something and move on to the next one; you'll genuinely take your time, and get more out of it in the end. It's also great for saving money, time management, and developing a more varied lifestyle!
So, in effect: 1. Love God with everything you've got; 2. Do what is right for you, and DO NOT compromise; 3. Take your time, and enjoy life. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, and sorry for the novel, IVM. Thanks again, for this incredible video! You truly are wise in both Word and life!

For me Allmight was and is my biggest inspiration in my lowest, when he told deku he could be a hero I cried , when he said he smiles to scare the fear away I felt that. Id like to think God used this to speak in a way I would understand him better so much so that it blew my mind when I read in John 6:20 in the NLT and Christ says “Don’t be afraid. I am here!” which is almost word for word what Allmight says.

You should absolutely watch Bullbuster. It's a safe drama like Sakura Quest, but delivers an action story in the Real Robot genre in the most grounded of ways, while taking jabs at edgier works like those of Bong Joon-ho and Hideaki Anno. It deals wth very evocative topics like workplace morality, work ETHIC, warfare (for the individual, no wars happen), and relationship to nature.
For a certain little easter egg is the only reason I'm suggesting this HERE, but I'm genuinely excited, it sort of reminds me of Stan Lee's anime ventures. But it's part of the anime mainstream, that Western audiences often ignore for some superheor schlock an equate THAT to "anime".

Thanks for covering this topic. For the last year or so, I had to stop watching anime because the ones I was watching were causing me to sin. I love Japan and I've been learning Japanese on and off again for 3 years now. But Japan became an idol for me, and my former obsession with wanting to be married took over my life. I ended up in a really bad place mentally and hated myself every time I would be stuck in that sin cycle. But praise be to God that recently, I have been set free from that cycle, and have slowly and more carefully getting back into anime again. Japan became a part of my life when I started learning their language and culture. And I'm so thankful Jesus has given me a renewed healthy relationship with the country and its culture. This video was just proof of what God already told me to do when I was ready to give anime a go again. Japan and anime aren't my life, Jesus is, but I'm thankful that I can pursue my hobbies again without feeling so guilty and having that self hatred.
Right. Anime has caused me to sin but now I avoid those types of animes. I really do love anime, but I cannot wait to be with the Father in heaven :)

@@GalaxyCatPlaysHere is some advice l recently learned deleting a few loved games. I won’t play a game and get attached to it like l did with CODM or T3 Arena who both have demonic themes. Think and see if you can surrender all to Jesus and never do those things again. Everytime l did that l imagined the game and it was stuck in my heart. Right now l am playing a few more FPS games which l dislike or can delete whenever but l think l can put those games to rest now

After coming to Christ I had quit a lot of indulgences (TV, secular YT, video games) in order to grow with God, but for the past month I’d been dipping back into some old hobbies, but I had my doubts. So I’d constantly ask people in my church about how do they balance it and what do they do. there is a cartoon that i once felt drawn to, Hazbin Hotel and once i finally decided to watch it and check out why, i realized all the blasphemy it had, the lies about how lucifer was an innocent dreamer or wisher. I couldnt keep watching, tiktoks were all over my fyp after that about it. like if it was following me but i decided to warn my family about instead of watching it.
You’re not alone. I stopped watching Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss. Helluva Boss/Hazbin is rather inaccurate and comes from Vivziepop’s flawed understanding of the Bible. Not only that, but good is lampooned to the point of being a Walmart supervisor, uncaring for those who sinned. Not only that but Blitzo and his gang swear so much and it’s unnecessary. Overall the show’s writing is bad and I decided to jump ship.

I love Rosie and Carmilla Carmine, but overall I don’t like the show. Plus with all the sacreligion and wrong takes of real people in the Bible (Adam for example) it worries me that people will be deceived into thinking this show is an accurate portrayal of Christianity. I told my friend that if they show God or Jesus in some way, then I’m done. But thinking more about it, I probably should stop now regardless.
I've noticed that a lot of anime contain esoteric spiritual ideas, both of the eastern and western religions. In a lot of ways anime was my introduction to spirituality outside of mainstream Christianity. Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, for example, pulls a lot from Alchemy, Hermeticism, and Kabbalah. Many shows have Buddhism and Shintoism baked in (naturally, since anime comes from Japan, where those are the main religions) I hadn't really questioned Anime's impact on me spiritually in this regard, but my investigation of those things have grown over the years. It really just dawned on me, watching this video, that when it comes to the "food sacrificed to idols" and things that will cause people to stumble, I think our current Christian society focus almost exclusively on sexual content.

Yup when honestly I think if someone isn’t as spiritually guarded and knowledgeable in area or solid in the faith (because a lot of us are still babes in the faith and can be swayed by the slightest influence) should stay away from anime that includes those elements blatantly. I know kids who watched anime and started doing yoga poses and had to nip it in the bud because they didn’t know any better and one of the popular anime which is jjk is not for everybody because of how heavy it deals with bhuddism and the occult. I myself am having a battle of whether or not I want to continue watching it because while the content isn’t having an influence on me I know the Bible also speaks on staying away from all appearance of evil which I’m okay if I have to cut it off. And I do take breaks because I always love stories of obvious good vs evil but the good characters also displaying mercy to those even their enemies like MHA. But this video was on point especially with the idolatry. Social media and anime are a big problem for people because it can easily become an idol and people not realize it

Exactly. As I've grown in my faith, there are certain anime I no longer watch. Mainly shows that romanticize demons. I watched Inuyasha when I was younger but it's something I no longer watch now. If I see a show is introducing a demon character and portraying them in a positive light, I stop watching.

5:32 I know this plot-line anywhere, hes talking about Clannad Afterstory, its season 2 from season 1 of Clannad. Season 1 is the story of how the parents got together, and season 2 is the story of what happens to the family. If you can get past the "bug-eyed" art-style of 90's anime then I would also highly recommend this show. Like he says in the video, it will make you tear up and at most...cry.

Clannad: after story - is the one he is talking about...I watched that when I was 17 and I cried like a baby! It is a super emotional story and very much affected me too! It's a wholesome story for sure!

I think he’s actualy talking about the movie as well the movie dives deeper into the depression the ML goes through. It’s more heart wrenching because she doesn’t come back in the movie. So sometimes when it comes to certain things I’m not sure about I get a little worried that I might accidentally do something that’ll disappoint God. Some don’t worry about things like that or care much, but it’s just something that I do care about.

I suggest “my roommate is a cat” it’s a comedy about a reclusive author who adopts a cat as inspiration for his next book but soon finds himself outside his comfort zone as he has to awkwardly interact with new people in order to care for his new companion. It’s a very sweet and very wholesome anime. Also you shouldn’t have to worry about triggers as the character designs are very modest with no revealing clothing. Also the episodes will alternate between telling the same scenarios once from the author’s point of view and then the cat’s point of view.

You are an absolute real one for making this video. I appreciate how you didn’t take a hard headed religious approach to this but you were more human (in a relatable sense) about it and that’s what the world needs.
A silent voice is a super good one, full of beautiful animation, and a deep enjoyable story, has zero nudity in it, i highly reccomend it as a christian, its super inspiring in general, but if you are working on your own anime/manga its even more so inspiring imo, im currently working on 2 christian manga series right now, and practicing animation for when im ready to get a team together and make an official anime 😊❤️

As a former anime fan who stopped watching animé for God, I think there is Another big factor to considere : is it worth your time?
Because even if an anime isn't leading you to sin and does no wrong to you, it will mostly not do anything good either (except the few lessons you could learn, but really you would learn much more and faster doing other things so let's forget that).
As followers of Christ, we have to know that Christ left us with a BIG mission and a lot of work. If we look at Jesus, He was spending all His time doing good to others, teaching and helping, and He called us to do the same as His followers.
We have a little time on this earth and it's all God's gift, so can we really take this time God's offers us to binge watch animes or play videos games all day long, while putting aside all the work and good deeds God would like us to do, while putting aside Bible studies and prayers?
As christians we should considere asking God how to use or time with wisdom to do His will.
That being said, im not saying that spending 20 minutes watching an anime episode is a bad thing, but rather let's not forget all what God asks to us and and let's remember to use wisdom in our time management.
I spent years trying to do all the good deeds that you're talking about- looking for places to volunteer at church, a mission, anywhere. Couldn't find a place to fit in. Nobody really needed me, they didn't have enough work for me, and I was just in the way. I played video games at the time, just a little bit, an hour or so a day, and felt guilty about even that. Doing everything that I could to try to get away from gaming, and this was before I started getting into manga or anime. And I just felt drained. In addition, I had, for several years before that, considered the idea of studying game design. So, a career path of not only wasting my own time on playing games, but also causing other people to waste their time, at least from your perspective.
I was consumed with guilt and kept teeter-tottering between gaming and not gaming. Forcing myself to try to conform to the image of a "good Christian" that I had spent a lifetime building up in my head. And I just couldn't fit into that role. Got so bad that I would beg God to strip me of everything, my job, my home, everything, and force me to live in the woods or in a cave like a hermit just so I could feel like I had given up my life and was truly following Him. Never had the guts to do such a thing, myself, and God never gave me the courage to do it.
Started streaming on Twitch about a year and a half ago. It's been very slow going, but I now have about 3 or 4 regular or semi-regular viewers that drop in every so often. Thought I was wasting my time, but I enjoyed them talking to me. Because I am surrounded by "good Christians," both at work and at church. And they disgust me. See, I'm a very blunt and direct person. I cannot stand insincerity and disingenuousness. And I sometimes think I have a built-in lie detector. And all these "good Christians" really don't want anything to do with me, because I call them out. I actually have called out my entire Sunday school class on more than one occasion. They get, um, extremely quiet. And more distant from me. But funnily enough, they can't ever tell me outright that I'm actually wrong about what I say.
So even though I hated myself for "wasting time" on streaming games 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, I kept doing it, because a couple of people would come back. Not like the people at church who only ever seemed to talk to me because they knew some part of my life's story and pitied me and thought that taking me to lunch one time would allow them to tick off their good deed for the day. But my viewers come back because, for whatever reason, they want to. And I finally realized why just the other day.
One teenager, my most regular viewer, who doesn't normally watch Twitch at all on weekends, suddenly showed up in my Saturday stream. I asked why and they said, "Oh, today's just an exception." A bit later, they said they'd had a panic attack and they were trying to calm down.
They came to my stream to calm down from a panic attack. I've had panic attacks. They're horrible. You really, really, really just want anything that makes you feel settled inside. And this person chose to come to ME to find that. Which can only mean that God is using me to help people.
And in case you're wondering, yes, I do talk about the Bible in my streams. I have yet to have a viewer really take offense to it. I'm sure I will someday, but they all seem to respect my opinion, just as I try to respect theirs.
As for my personal life, I have 4 Bible studies a day, a full-time job, no family because they were all abusive and I had to cut them out of my life to protect myself, no friends because of everything I said above about all the Christians around me being insincere and fake, and I try to stay in communication with God almost nonstop. I also started volunteering at a resale house that supports a local Christian ministry. Tried to get into any department besides electronics, because I wanted to get away from Internet and games and stuff. Literally the only place they had to put me was in the DVD section. Even tho it was the last place I wanted to be, it felt right- my mom had a huge DVD library, and I spent a good bit of my life keeping it in order. So doing the exact same thing as a way to support a Christian ministry was serendipitous, I suppose. (Just another way of saying "God's will.")
As for anime and manga, I only just recently got into it, within the last couple of months or so. The only series I've finished so far is Charlotte. And man, oh, man. The number of Biblical themes in that series. I've made quite a few posts on Tumblr about the Biblical themes in that show. And they've gotten a few likes and reblogs, so I know they're reaching people.
All that to say this: don't judge people. You have no clue what God is doing in someone else's life. Paul said in Corinthians that the uncomely members are just as important as the apostles. Don't tell me I'm wasting my time when I can look back at how I got here and point to at least a dozen different times when God was nudging me along this path. And maybe for someone else, maybe for most people, gaming and anime and manga really are a waste of time. But it's not my place to say. Nor is it yours. Because I only know for certain what I see God doing in my life. And you only know for certain what He's doing in your life. So keep your judgments to yourself.

There is ALWAYS room to grow and change and a Christian should never feel perfectly safe with themselves and their level of maturity or sanctification. We should always be eager for more growth and excited to receive encouragement toward greater righteousness and selflessness. But be careful of thinking that the Christian life should ever be about anxiety or self-condemnation or shame. For one, because any encouragement we receive is a gift from God.
And two, cuz even just by hating or condemning oneself or being anxious over how to improve, its an act of pride because it means we're paying more attention to our standard of righteousness, whatever it is, and not Gods. No one is good enough that they should become 'comfortable' or 'complacent' in their growth. So really, time spent hating and condemning oneself is useless at best and sinful at worst. If we're truly living for Gods standard, we should never seek to be angry that we aren't at some level of righteousness that we want to be at. The only productive and humble thing to do is always seek to improve for God. We should never be ashamed of where God has placed us now and will place us in our sanctification. That also means that if there's a chance to change and grow, we should always try to take it, gladly and in thanks to God for placing us there.
This all being said, it is true that opportunities to worship are in many places. Anime or gaming itself is not "taboo."
What should be focused on is our conduct and responses to the things we engage in like anime or gaming. If it causes us to sin, obviously we have a problem. Anime led me to lots of sin and ungodliness in my life and in my thinking before I became a Christian.
If there's opportunities for worship like talking bible over stream, that's good. But if you're also using that time streaming to become self-pleased and bitter toward other good teachings and encouragements, then consider either mending this issue before moving forward, or taking a break if it causes you to sin in this way.
I am sorry to hear that other Christians around you don't treat you as their own. The kingdom of God is a place where believers are made brothers and sisters in Christ, so to hear they don't do that for you is regrettable. But be careful also that you're not using it as an opportunity to forsake your calling to be a sister in Christ to them also. Like I said before, no Christian is ever at a state of "good enough" because no one is justified before God by their works. So chances are there's lots of opportunity to love them also.
One of my favorite pieces of scripture is the Good Samaritan story. We should always seek to be the good Samaritan, even when it feels like we're the man who was beaten and passed by the priest and Levite. The story happened, after all, because a man was approaching Jesus asking how to enter heaven, and essentially, how to love correctly. The problem is he was also not willing to take "Love God" and "Love your neighbor" at face value, and so he came up with a copout question of "who is my neighbor?"
If you ever find yourself unsure of who your neighbor is whom you should be loving, then take Jesus words for what they are and be a neighbor. It's great that you are doing that for those who join your streams, but the greater precedent is your brethren in Christ because Jesus loved the church. Or is it just not Jesus place to set an example for Christians because everyone's got 'their own way' and 'their own life'? Is it just not the original commenters place to encourage setting aside gaming and anime in favor of Godly conduct when those things get in the way? Is it just not my place to write this comment either even if its based in scripture and intended at encouragement for your walk with Christ? Division and separation of beliefs within the church is energized by Satan, not God.
And as for loving God, which takes precedent over loving our neighbor, its knowing that any love we show or good we do to our neighbors is all to honor and love God and His calling for us.
I hope this all helps you in your run for God! It's always good to be receptive to encouragement because all of it is done in love!

He commands us to love Him with all of our heart, with all of our soul, with all of our strength and with all of our mind. And that in WHATEVER we do we do unto the glory of God.
He understands perfectly well we need rest but that's not a valid excuse to compromise and watch something that is against Him, even if it's something 'small' like a little demonic theme here and there, or a curse word, or God's name being used in vain -- I mean, TOTALLY fine if it's just one time in a TV show or a movie, ammirite?
Entertainment was and still is my greatest battle. And I couldn't justify watching secular entertainment anymore. Even kids shows...
And it wasn't out of guilt, I just, started really seeing it. I just care about God more than a dumb movie, game or tv show that gives me no true satisfaction of the soul.

This past year, I came to the realization that these mediums of entertainment had become a sort of idol in my life, and I felt compelled to throw it all away because it was causing distractions and I never wanted to read the bible even though I knew I should. I threw away all my posters and anything I felt was an "idol" or "icon." I'm really glad I made that decision. I've since been able to listen to audio books and read the bible on my phone as well as my study bible, I've read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John probably six plus times at this point. Looking forward to reading more of the other books as well. I also got a prayer journal a few days ago and now I've got a daily activity to look forward to!

I threw out all anime from my life.
Because it was all I ever wanted to do.
And after I threw it out I realized I had so many hobbies I was neglecting along with my relationship with God.
Maybe someday when I'm more mature I could try watching an anime again but for now I'm learning to exercise moderation in everything else I do. Video games with anime art styles don't count to me like Smash bros, or Genshin impact because they don't give me that same idolatry feeling but I've stayed away from Anime. I'm so glad your relationship with God has Strengthened❤️🙂

Overconsumption of anything isn't healthy. You must've been over consuming so like anything, you need to take a break to clear your mind yes, but to give it all up and blame it on anime, it probably wasn't the best way to go. Give it up for a few days or a week, read the bible, or do something that will relax you. Then come back to it and enjoy anime. Anime isn't a way of life like many would have you believe, it's just a form of entertainment. It's all it is, to entertain.

The anime, _Spy family,_ is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the anime world. It would be a stretch to say that it has *any* sexual themes. I think that it is a show that could be watched by all Christians.

Spy x Family is delightful. My husband and I love it because it's just sweet and fun. The only objections I can think of are that the father and mother are a spy and an assassin so there is some violence although nothing too over the top and that the mother's outfit when doing assassinations is a tad more revealing than some people might be comfortable with if there are young children watching. I would recommend it to anyone though to at least give it a try.

As a Christian and anime freak, I agree with your message. To me, I really don’t pay attention to any weird proctoring images; I just enjoy the storytelling, detail quality, and movement animation. I made like the fantasy characters, but I’m not obsessed with or worshipping them.

I am very happy you covered this topic. As a Christian, I've opted to stay away from certain anime due to explicit imagery and I just couldn't watch it. However, I have also found anime that I can watch. One of my favorites actually has a valuable lesson. Life is precious and while death is painful to see, we can honor the memories of those we've lost by helping those who are still with us and fight for a better tomorrow knowing that we can make a difference.

I think it's the same way with any form of entertainment. Video games, movies, etc. You should always take these 3 considerations when you engage in media. This is why it may be ok for one Christian to play a game like Doom and another might not think it's ok for them. It's all about weather you consider it beneficial or harmful to your relationship with God.

I LOVE this! As a Christian who is a cinephile I think this can be applied to almost any film /cinema. For instance the film Good Will Hunting taught me a lot about self-destruction and what I was doing in my own sin. Although Matt Damon may not know God, God used that film to teach me some valuable things.
I normally don't comment on many videos, but this really helped me. Though I don't watch anime (much, I barely know any), I've been questioning what shows I can watch - Danny Phantom, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, some sitcoms, things like that. I never felt away from God with these shows because I either knew they were fake or I didn't enjoy the lewd jokes (in one certain sitcom). I also write novels and I've been questioning if I can even write/watch fantasy. This helped answer both of these questions. While I'd figured some things out before through prayer and looking, this gave me a direction and more solid answer than some articles/people. I've started infusing Christian roots and themes within my stories while still keeping the fantasy/magic aspect. Thank you! God bless! ❤

I'd seen one article that said we couldn't watch Disney. Seeing the list of things you watch was really helpful. I thought I was doing something wrong by watching Marvel, Danny Phantom, TMNT, and things like that. Now I know it's on the person and their walk with God. I can watch the sitcoms as long as it doesn't push me toward sin. This really, really helped.
There's definitely a lot of weird sexual stuff going on in a lot of anime. But just like you mentioned in the video, anime is a genre that is filled with heroic characters, who often take the path that's hard, rather than the path that's convenient, and I think that's a great lesson for people.

This is true, although it seems to be part of the larger trend of there being more weird sexual stuff being included in all forms of media as time goes on. I've watched a lot of older anime and old media and there seems to be less weird sexuality in old anime/media than in recent anime/media.

I love this. Clannad is what made me love anime, slice of life/rom coms are my absolute favourites, so when I saw you talking about Clannad, I completely related. Getting emotional again just thinking about it... God uses stories like that to teach us about how to love again, even if we feel broken.
I used to watch anime when I was younger but honestly, I made television an idol, including anime. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find an anime that actually has themes that glorify God (but Studio Ghibli movies are probably your best bet) simply because the amount of violence and erotic material overwhelms those otherwise wholesome themes. Everybody is different, but honestly, I feel as if television and film in general is incredibly difficult to watch as a believer, if you're going all in on faith.
While Vinland Saga certainly has a lot of period appropriate violence as it's set in the age of the Vikings, it does not glorify violence and the main character has to go on a journey of letting go of the desire for revenge and learning that violence should only be a last resort for defense. Very Christian in theme and when Christianity shows up in the story, it's generally shown pretty favorably which was a nice surprise.
Yeah vinland saga is incredible and the second season quotes scripture multiple times. I mean it shows in the first season even the religious persecutions Christians faced in the age of the vikings.

I love your perspective on this! Thanks! When I gave my life to Jesus, I stopped watching secular shows, movies, and anime, and dedicated my life to following Him and ministry. I went years just focusing on the Word and going to church, but deep down I yearned for it. I was praying one time and somehow, anime music from shows I used to love started playing in my head. After much prayer and “permission from God,” I watched the video. The lyrics were very deep and profound. I saw a few anime music videos and it really encouraged me. Then my wife came to me with some hard questions an hour or so later. The amazing thing was the lyrics addressed her question and she was in tears. Then she followed it up with another question and it was addressed by the next video. It was so awesome to see God ministering to me and my wife in such an unconventional way that she and I could relate to. Thanks again for your insight. God bless:)

The story doesn't EXACTLY have a simple understanding of the messags but as you watch/read through it becomes so clear and inspiringly beautiful.
Vinland Saga is beautiful. I really loved the part in the most recent season where Thorfinn heard the Sermon on the Mount being read and was really taking it in.
Trigun also has some pretty powerful but subtle Christ imagery.
Vinland Saga was so inspiring. I was in a bad state emotionally and I was wondering the why's of my life and then I understood the chaos of ife without Christ, life without faith and how people raised with similar beliefs and culture still decimate and destroy one another for fun just floored me. My problems seemed so insignificant and my faith was just growing so much. I don't understand the Devil's advocate stance or what it is to live amongst non-Christians or non-religious people. I have grown up in a bubble and to see the world outside of the bubble really opened up my eyes to the folly the bible talks about. I also became a bit of a history nerd and consumed all historical media on vikings; their rise, fall and conversion to Christianity.

Almost looked at this holding my breath for a beat down on anime but by God’s grace this was a really fair assessment on watching it. You hit the nail on the head with #3. For example in one anime called Bleach the main villain is a guy named aizen. He was a former soul captain (similar to an archangel) who at first glance seemed really nice til his evil intent was revealed. He wanted more power and to rule heaven. His main ability is when he unsheaths his sword he can cast really deceptive illusions. Kinda reminds of a certain antagonist in the Bible that has similar abilities (Ezekiel 28:12)

I absolutely love this video. I'm a big fan of anime, and I used to run a Christian anime club (I'm still part of the club, but stepped down from leadership because of things going on in my personal life). One of the things we did once was make a list of animes that were safe for Christians to watch, and another one that had animes that were safe for children to watch, and that question of something being okay for one person possibly being a stumbling block for another did come up. With the regular list, we cautioned each other to stop watching if we felt that the content was not good for us. And with the list for kids, we greatly emphasized that the parents of the children should screen the anime first to decide if they agree or not if their child can watch that anime. There are animes I can watch that others can't because I'm strongly rooted in my faith and know right from wrong. And there are animes that others can watch that others can. And sometimes there will be animes that you can't watch at one period of time, but later on you can. There was an anime recommended to me once by my sister, and at that time, that anime ended up being very bad for me because it had themes that I could not handle at that time. But now, I can watch it because I can better handle those themes, and I always warn people about this when recommending this particular anime exactly because of my experience with watching it for the first time. "Hey, this is a great anime, but the themes are heavy. Death is talked about a lot, and if you are in a state of mind where you are not mentally stable, don't watch it."
And the stuff about valuable life lessons you can find in anime! Yes! I've learned so many valuable life lessons rooted in Scripture through anime.
The Christian community will probably always continue to argue over whether anime is okay or not, but at the end of the day, I think these things you talked about are a really great starting point for us Christians who do enjoy anime and want to keep our souls and the souls of others safe while doing so.

I was simply curious when this popped up in my recommendations.
However I do play videogames.
And this video kinda confirmed something I had wondered myself about when it comes to video games and media in general.
That we can learn important lessons through stories.
I recently started playing Final Fantasy XIV with some friends, and I find myself often thinking to myself about biblical parallels I can make.
I've played through several expansions of the game and it's typically classic light hearted fantasy stories, of course they have their emotional ups and downs.
The most recent expansion I finished I had a moment where I had to step away from the game however.
As a Christian I know demons are real, and I'm not afraid of them because I know God is on my side.
However I do still get mild anxiety attacks when I see something "supernatural" in media. This latest expansion I played dropped a scene like that without warning.
And those scenes are to me knowledge almost non existent in the franchise...
I don't know how to describe it but I tried not to even look, from what little I did see it felt evil...
And I questioned at that moment if I should just drop the game all together. Despite having an accumulated several hundred hours in story where e nothing like that happened.
In the end I pushed through and the expansion never did a scene like that again. But it still didn't sit right with me.

My point was supposed to focus on the fact that throughout this darker than average themed story I tend to keep my eye on God.

I Guess to put it simply, I've learned a lot of lessons from stories in my life. Sometimes it's not about the story being told, but the way you respond to it.

All anime that is realesed on t.v is wicked as I came to Christ I realized this,their does not seem to be one anime that does not have cursing,pornographic over sexualization,murder,fighting,withcraft,pedophila,false religions,false spiritual practice. The anime art style and manga style in itself is not evil it can be used to glorify God but as of this comment their is no anime out their that does this and does not have the wicked themes I mentioned. Closing point this isn't a conviction this is sin or not sin "David said I will set my eyes before no wicked thing" and the bible says" a little leaven leavens the whole lump" the bible also says "what fellowship does light have with darkness" and "to die to the desires of sin and the flesh" "abstain from the appearance of evil" and lastly "to not gave anything to do with unfruitful works of darkness but expose them. Vinland saga is so amazing, tells a great story, and has many Christan values. Another Funny one for a good laugh is Gintama, There is many good anime, Dbz, Mha, Gurren Laggan (sometimes a little reavealing) but gives the greatest messages ever.

I just realized that Jesus' face in the beginning of the video is with All Might's features LOL. Whatever I was hesitant about watching this video, I thought that would be one of these that says that anime isn't good and these things but I thought a little and that don't seemed like that, and it really isn't. I love your video, and I think the same way, not just for anime, but for others entertainment as well. Love your video, thanks for it.
I really enjoy a lot of anime and manga especially the ones that teach lessons or go into philosophy sometimes even indirectly. Death Note for example shows how a prideful person if given power like God can become corrupted. Vinland Saga has so many, but my favorite is the “I have no enemies” which is directly related to Matthew 5:43 “love your enemies” it’s even quoted in the show! And my favorite of all is probably JoJo part 5 Golden Wind which introduces the concept of having resolve is not enough to defeat evil because sometimes evil has the same resolve as you, and that sacrifice is necessary to overcome it.

One BIG point I want to include that I only really noticed this year when I was reborn is anime's Eastern Mysthecism aspects. I listen to a lot of Jmusic where those themes are more obvious, but thanks to anime, I essentially grew up believing that "I can do anything if I believe in myself and never give up". This mindset certainly got me far in life, I will admit. Even if people doubted me, I always used that as motivation to pursue my dreams. And even if people made fun of my interests, it's always the weirdos in these shows that made a difference haha. I was never ashamed of my religion or being different. I simply did what I enjoyed doing the most.
HOWEVER, this mindset created a barrier between me and God because I always felt I could do whatever with my own power and hard work. I would certainly thank him for protecting and providing for me, but I didn't want to bother him by asking for something I could get myself. Growing up in a legalistic church (SDA), I even felt I could do better at keeping the law for example. Leaning on others and asking for help was just something I never wanted to do, nor had anyone to go to either way. But I had a serious wakeup call as I looked back and realized I sinned too much and needed a savior, and then I was reborn. And even then, I still didn't know what to pray or ask for. I didn't want to bother God with petty requests. But Revelation 3 really hit me like a brick and it made me want to come to God about everything:
"Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent."
Before, I was living as the main character in my own world, but now I'm happy to be a side character/witness in the ultimate story of God. I can't take any credit, and I'm not anyone important, but God still loves me and wants me to take part in his kingdom, even though I don't deserve it 😍
I feel identified with what you wrote since the confidence that many characters portray is the confidence we need in life, especially during the teen years and early adulthood. Today I like to think that Jesus is waiting for some Christians to take action and do things greater than he did. That is quite a huge task by the way but I believe it possible. Sometimes I think that a second coming won't happen until we realize how powerful we truly are if we transform our animal nature to a more spiritual one. This is what some animes and other great philosophy books teach. I feel you are in the right path, obey when it's appropriate but be a rebel when anyone with "supposedly" divine authority tells you that you are not capable or enough. The real message Jesus wants to give us is that we are capable and enough if we follow a path like his. :)

It sounds like you have a different view in that we can all come together and fix the world, or that a savior won't come until we all reach a certain level of enlightenment and such. I don't remember what religions or christian sects believe that, probably mormonism. There's certainly a lot of new beliefs that I only dug into this year. I learned bout other big religions, philosophy, and evolution in school...but only found out bout new age, satanism, wiccan this year...and also had a friend who was interested in Buddism which he said has Christ Consciousness, and he wanted to become a god....I didn't think people were actually pursuing Satan's temptation that we can become gods 😅 Also didn't know there's gnosticism or whichever religion that says the God of the bible is a lower god who has trapped us and we can become bigger than him and be freed from him. It really breaks my heart to know that some acknowledge Jesus and biblical stories, but see YHWY as the bad guy and twist his word 😞
Seeing the world through a biblical spiritual lens with the Holy Spirit's guidance, everything just seems demonic at this point. Everyone's been lying to us. All these man-made religions all believe the same thing (do good, reach enlightenment, your salvation depends on you. Complete opposite of what the bible teaches). It all just makes me cling tighter to my bible and my faith cause otherwise, you'll fall into this whole deconstruction movement, or like progressives who say some rules don't apply now etc. As much of a strong, independent female I was growing up, (thankfully I was never a feminist), I thought women could be anything. But now, I agree that women shouldn't even be preachers and such. I've been shedding my tomboyness and embracing my femininity over the years once I saw that men were being better girls than me. What a shame honestly. The world has ignored and warped all of God's design with its agendas. It's doing all it can to erase anything biblical.
If you don't believe in it, that's fine. It's good to figure out where your beliefs align. Just before I was saved, I was talking with my best friend who called herself spiritual. She thought she was unique in her beliefs and felt misunderstood. I didn't know demons were real until I started discussing things with her, as she was into tarot readings and interested in psychic readings, but I knew the bible was against that and wanted to warn her. Through research, I realize people actually had those powers but demons were behind it. As I dug more into it all, I realized she was more new age, and all her personal conclusions pretty much aligned with them. She also had a little bit of eastern mysthecism as well as she believed in reincarnation til we learn, and thought everything was god, including herself. It's cause I realized demons and magic were very real that I felt a real need to run back to God. Sin wasn't just against God, but can become a portal for demons.
I also started using YHWY when referring to my God, cause when you just say 'God', people assume we're all talking about the same person, even though we don't see him the same nor worship him the same. People like the Buddist friend be trying to correct me about who Jesus is when I'm directly quoting the bible that says he's God, not a man that elevated to god status. I had to tell him we don't believe the same thing so don't try to mix them up. YHWY is very specific about who he is, how he wants to be worshipped, what he desires from us, and how to be saved. If you don't align with that, then you don't really believe in the bible or it's God. I choose to believe in Him and His Word wholeheartedly. I won't deviate thinking I know better. Anime essentially teaches we are gods who know best and we should follow our own hearts, but the bible says 'the heart is deceitful beyond all things and desperately wicked' (Jeremiah 17:9) and that the fear of God is the beginning of all knowledge (Proverbs 9:10) ❤️ I know I'm not God. I'm made his image, but I don't know anything before I was born, and I have no real control in this world. I have free choice, but that's about it. Don't even have free will cause other people can always get in your way. So many things are predestined from birth as our families and countries determine a lot for us. We're so fragile and so limited in power. We don't have any control when it comes to our deaths (unless of course...). We all need God.
I'm just saying all this cause I know the whole 'your on the right track' usually implies people think I have yet to be enlightened or come to the knowledge of the truth, but I understand what the bible says and I'm aligning as much as I can to it. I'm not lost or confused at all. I know how this story will end. Other born again believers would feel the same as well. If you think you know more than YHWY or that there's more to life than a future living with him, then you're on some different path, and I'm not interested in exploring that haha. I have peace, hope and joy just waiting for Jesus and the idea of reigning with him one day when he finally takes over the earth and brings peace on his own terms 😄
@@kamekomiyamora I can see you are aware of one of the big themes in anime and jrpgs which is the potential of becoming divine. Evangelion, ergo proxy, Breath of Fire, etc.. I come from a christian upbringing where there are a lot of precious values that do give a sense of control and sound judgement in a world full of mixed messages and ideas of satisfying the flesh completely. Just think of the american lifestyle where every need you have can be satisfied if you pay for it. To some extent, this has corrupted the whole world. We really need to set apart from that if we wish to lead a better lifestyle, no matter your creed. Anyways, after studying psychology and just living life, under a holy spirit driven consciousness ,I discovered that the traditional interpretation of the bible is too narrow if taken 100% as a historical book. We've westernized spiritual truths and live our faiths as if they were the only real connection to God. I think these kind of thoughts are selfish since other religions have deep connections to God as well. Evangelion is a great example of how growing out of a self-imposed shell can help someone become a better version of themselves and relate better to the world around them from the perspective of jewish mysticism. I remember being told as a kid to give Jesus all my hardships and just have faith in the future. Now I understand that I can pray to him however I'm also accountable for my life. A positive change comes if I have the strength of the Spirit within me and can actually make it happen in reality. While having good intentions and faith sounds christian enough, this misses the power we need to develop and apply to our daily lives. This is usually a process and it can take time. Although miracles happen. This is where some S-tier animes expose wonderful lessons of inner growth and how this inner strength is perfect for changing the world outside for the best.

That's the mindset I had to flee from. I'm all about God's will now, and I'm doing my best to detach from this world and any lessons it has conditioned me to believe in which goes against what YHWY teaches in his word 🙏 I still love some characters who displayed loving, selfless, and sacrificial traits as they reminded me of Jesus, but I'm very wary of the medium since I know Japan's Christian population is like 1%. As I said, you're free to believe what you want, but I'd rather rest in the promises and future my creator wants for me ❤️ Yall can take your own paths and be confused and lost if you want to, but I believe the bible when it says everything here is futile.

Personally I’ve never idolised anime. Maybe because from early on even without being a Christian too many of what was popular was demonic themes of anime from Japan so I avoided it. I watched a few that I liked but I realised the Japanese really love demon themes lol. So I tried looking for anime that would interest me, anything to do with mystery, detectives and adventure is what I like. But as with all things I do it in moderation. What I idolised was KDrama. Glad I can watch these things without attaching myself so deeply anymore.

Maybe we Christians should gather collectively as creatives and start doing Christian themed anime. The Bible is filled with much to tell.

The end is very near, and time is in short supply.
Now, I spend time reading wholesome uplifting books, the Bible and prayer.
I try to encourage others to the best of my knowledge and minimized my time wasters.
That was my choice, and each person is responsible for its own.

@mikeym0827 We don't know exactly when the end will be, but according to Biblical prophesies, it is safe to assume that we are very close. Christians must stay on the watch; constantly praying so that day won't come as a surprise.

Honestly you are right for number 3. I've learned so many things from anime more so than i do in school. Part of why i can understand the bible unlike other teens is because watching anime has helped me understand things like literals people, cultures, and they do give life lessons that really do help. I really like the slice of life genre, some are more romantic, some are not at all. In the past I watched or sometimes just peeked in shows displaying some sinful behaviour from which I stay away since my faith grew stronger. I really like a good anime from time to time, but got picky in a good way. That C Anime you described is still my favourite and I do think crying is what most did in the end, it was just so sad. I think the rules apply to most of non animated shows aswell, if something triggers you, you feel uncomfortable watching it or you feel it moves you away from god, do not watch it.
