The big worry I have with this is how many systems are built into the map instead of using the decoration system. Each feature like that increase workload to create new plots to pick from, It's what happened to guild halls and the reason we only have Desert mountain, Desert Cave, Desert, and Island to pick from. We need variety in plots for this to be a success. Snowy areas, tropical areas, underground areas, city areas, any kinda biome they got needs a homestead to pick from. All home instance nodes should become placeable decorations. This would mean they don't have to place every possible home instance node into every homestead they make in the future. Atm there are 57 home nodes. Not that many to place around in a single homestead, but let's say we want 30+ homesteads to pick from. The work they got increase exponentially. Alternatively, let's say they go through that and made 30 homesteads, now any time they introduce a new home instance node, they got to pick a place for it in each of the 30 possible homesteads. It's not that big of an issue, but it builds up when you add more features. Stables are going to need implementations in every homestead, a landing for the skiff will too and requires water in every homestead (though these two features would be fine to not exist in every homestead). However, it would be much better if we could just make our own stables with the decoration system. Have a Raptor bed decoration, have a Skiff port decoration, etc... It would increase customization and reduce future workload for ANet.

My Jackal is actually my go-to land mount. I prefer it over Raptor because it goes as fast but doesn't have the "weighted" feel for starting and stopping.
As someone who is not much of a decorator/builder and who has neglected the home instance since launch (and its nodes), I'm mostly uninterested but I am kicking myself, as I usually do, for essentially foregoing the free daily loot. I can see myself either doubling down and not caring even harder or if there's any QoL available even to players like myself, maybe finally being engaged by it. We shall see.
The one thing i would really like to see is a billboard/sign or something to display titles, there are so many niche and rare titles that i will never equip so it would be cool to be able to show them off somehow.
... I use the jackle all the time. It's the best ground mount for uphill climbs or for quick teleports from node to node when doing some gathering. Raptor sucks on the uphill its leap is slower than the teleport, and the roller beetle is better for long distance travel. Springer is the one I never use.
The best home system I ever had the privilege of enjoying, IMO, was also part of a Guild system and in the open world of a well set up system that allowed near sandbox level of placement options. It was one of the greatest features in SWG before Sonie killed the game so they would not have to compete against it.
I hope build templates become a thing. I love this kind of thing but I suck at building. If someone has Their place build up and I love it. They can share it and once we have the materials we can make a replica of it.
So eventually, we'll be able to have guilds where everyone has unlocked an Eternity and they all contribute it to be displayed in the guild hall, and then a decorator will be able to make a huge Eternity flower in the Guild Hall Foyer. Or maybe make a furnace powered entirely by Incinerator daggers.
This has everything I want and more when it comes to characters and weapon displays. The only thing I am sad about is that you can't place your nodes where you want.
Muk going on a brief rant about how you can't use your mounts in your home instance is pretty funny, considering you can't even glide in the place. They're core game instances through and through. I'll say, the homesteads are now decidedly at the top of my list of things I'm excited about with the new expansion. I'll spend way too much time getting it to look like a mess, but it'll be my personal mess. Also love that they didn't go the traditional crafting profession route, given how much of a pain scribe is to level.
It'd be good if fashion statues work both ways, you could both apply your fashion to it, or apply the saved fashion on the statue to your current character/armour set. We all know how painful it can be to recreate your look whenever you want to change your gear.
This is actually an interesting addition and might...might get me to buy the last two expansions. We've been asking for a proper housing system since the GW2 beta...finally it looks like we have a system that looks interesting. The big question is how much does a floor cost, how much does a wall cost? If simple things are cheap and bigger showier things cost a bit more we will have people using the system make all sorts of crazy things...which is what they want. But if walls cost crazy rare resources, it will be a DOA system.
This looks great! I was a little worried when anet stared hyping it up as the greatest player housing system in mmo's. I've seen too many game companies claim that x feature will be the greatest thing since sliced bread only to fail miserably, but this homestead looks pretty darn good.
As someone who spent more time in Fallout 4 building elaborate settlements than actual story and as someone who spends more time in Starfield building ships and outposts than story (especially since Creation Kit came out), I feel like I may be spending more time in Homestead than out in the open world. lol
4:35 That is a lie! The Jackal is the best pet for consistently getting up lonv inclines. Sure, the only place where this might come in handy is when you want to get out of the Drakkar arena back to the surface, but still! The Jackal has at least one use case!
I consider myself a hardcore PvEer, but I myself always loved the housing systems from games like DC Universe Online, FF14, New World, etc... This looks sooo promising.
My Glyphs of industry are going to less useful with the collect all box option 😅 but oh well, love all these QOL features they've thought about with the homestead.
Kind of sad that scribing didn't been fused with the home decoration profession. So, there'll be 2 distinct professions focused on decorations incompatible in both places... scribing can't be use in home instance, and home scribing can't be use in guild halls. 😩
I rewatched this video and i am sure 1000 cap for housing right now have to be increased later on or we have a problem XD i am already on 780/1000 and i redid the fence and the gras to save around 130 tiles xD
so, can you use scribing/guild hall items here? I haven't gotten the opportunity to customize a guild hall, but i have a bunch of items I picked up in pugs i'll never use. I know it says that this can go to guild halls, but does it go in reverse?
I have two questions. Can we bring someone who is behind/not on JaW yet to visit our homesteads? And if we change the appearance of our characters will the statues update or keep the old visuals? because it would be nice to create characters like Jora and other fan favorites, poste them and then change the appearance back (or delete the alt after farming your weekly key)
I am wo hyped for this, I can't even put it into words. Not because I am speechless, but because there is just so much amazing stuff I want to point out. It's already everything I wanted and so much more. I am hoping - but don't think it likely - they will let us invite players who don't own the expansion themselves. I would love to do some cosy gaming with my best friend, but he is not going to spend 25 bucks on a game that he likely can't play due to a disability. At least not unless he can test it out first and make sure he'll get 25 bucks worth of entertainment out of it. It might actually be great advertising if anet let us do that, but I fully expect that the homestead will only be accessible from a janthir map, so my hopes aren't very high. A girl can dream, though...
i do use the jackal more than anything!!!! just after the skyscale, and its above my griffon WHICH I use a lot. I dont like that much the raptor. so thats not true MUK.
if any guest could drop a statue of their characters in your home instance, you'll be filled by requests of doing that, and half ot those requests would be mine, rest assured.
I want New Kaineng Night City elements to bring some modernity to old wilds. I will decorate it with holo-dancers and norn, humana nd sylvari female characters. Entry 1g per night of fun.
Having to move your alts to the homestead instance is BAD. I have 13 characters parked throughout the world to do daily harvesting, chest looting and so on. I only have 1 character not parked to run around in PvE. Most of my time is in WvW so it doesn't affect them being parked. Hope they can change that part.
The most important thing about having a stable for your jackal is that there is a new animation for petting your mounts. You can pet the dog.
It's cool they gave the early preview to someone that seems to actually play the game and not just someone that wouldn't appreciate it at all.
The bee you turn into to fly around should be the jade bot if you have the EOD expansion.

I'm gonna spend so many hours in this. I LOVE housing. This is what the game needed for me. I'm so happy
This reminds me of the crazy skate parks i made in the old tony hawk games on playstation, which were pretty fun!
This sounds cool but memory serves me properly & if I recall right is that GW1 had it for armour, weapons and pets, The Hall of Monuments
GW1 Hall of Monuments has stuff you have said you want and some of it is being added into this, I hope they add more from the GW1 HOM here
This has everything I want and more when it comes to characters and weapon displays.
What I want is a basement or an attic where I can put boxes and boxes of junk
Alt characters making an appearance?! I've been dreaming about this since forever!! :D
I heard that you can attribute a glyph to the Collect All option.
I've seen too many game companies claim that x feature will be the greatest thing since sliced bread only to fail miserably, but this homestead looks pretty darn good.
i'm not weaving today, i'm beezing
As someone who spent more time in Fallout 4 building elaborate settlements than actual story and as someone who spends more time in Starfield building ships and outposts than story (especially since Creation Kit came out), I feel like I may be spending more time in Homestead than out in the open world. lol
4:35 That is a lie! The Jackal is the best pet for consistently getting up lonv inclines. Sure, the only place where this might come in handy is when you want to get out of the Drakkar arena back to the surface, but still! The Jackal has at least one use case!
Very pleased with the size of the homestead- not some tiny house and backyard.
I consider myself a hardcore PvEer, but I myself always loved the housing systems from games like DC Universe Online, FF14, New World, etc...
This looks sooo promising.
Cant wait to see the Best Homestead Competition.
OMG Decorations! WOOT!
Maybe you'll be able to port right back to where you were, like the Mistlock Scroll. Then you could leave your alts in the Homestead.
Ranger pets space too please
I got a full home instance and im so showing off my first leggie i ever made Pharus.
But most important... What about the home instance cats?
To give more example of home instances being old code, you also can't glide. So vanilla gw2, not even updated for HoT.
Sorry Phill. But the home nodes in the Grove are very close to each other. lol
I find my run in it much quicker than any other home instance o.o
Only 30 characters? But I have over 100!
I wonder if we can make statues of shifted forms (ie reaper's shroud)?
Can I make a cobblestone driveway out of Chak Garent Eyes?…
I have two questions. Can we bring someone who is behind/not on JaW yet to visit our homesteads? And if we change the appearance of our characters will the statues update or keep the old visuals? because it would be nice to create characters like Jora and other fan favorites, poste them and then change the appearance back (or delete the alt after farming your weekly key)
No and No, you can access Homestead without the expansion and, you need to click on the statue so it "copies" your current look
A girl can dream, though...
it would be cool if we can change character to one of the alts directly from the homestead
I want to know if I will get my volatile magic if I use the COLLECT ALL BUTTON. I spent a lot on those glyphs.
i do use the jackal more than anything!!!! just after the skyscale, and its above my griffon WHICH I use a lot. I dont like that much the raptor. so thats not true MUK.
As someone with mostly Sylvari characters... I still use the Asura home instance most of the time. 😂
@Mukluk - It will require research notes :p :D
2:20 an intelligent game journalist?? now THAT!!! is new...
Please Mr. or Ms. Anet make new tab next to guild tab , or make portal scroll so we can go in homested in 1 click, tnx and keep moveing forward ;;DD
if any guest could drop a statue of their characters in your home instance, you'll be filled by requests of doing that, and half ot those requests would be mine, rest assured.
I definitely use my jackal more than the warclaw.
I want New Kaineng Night City elements to bring some modernity to old wilds.
I will decorate it with holo-dancers and norn, humana nd sylvari female characters.
Entry 1g per night of fun.
Again a missed opportunity here. Homestead should have been a PvP islands where you can build cannons and start grudges with your neighbors. xD
I really hope they add new bee skins or give the bee jade bots skuna
If that bee's not also a jade bot skin I guess Anet just doesn't like money
Having to move your alts to the homestead instance is BAD. I have 13 characters parked throughout the world to do daily harvesting, chest looting and so on. I only have 1 character not parked to run around in PvE. Most of my time is in WvW so it doesn't affect them being parked. Hope they can change that part.
WOW!...wow wow woooooooooow! THIS is really HUUUUUUUUGE. I love it!
