If you Enjoyed this video, please do subscribe as I'm trying to reach 1000 subs this year. With the latest 'episode' showing just how difficult it is for the opposing nations in the show to stop the rumbling with their WW1 technology and I figured it could be fun to ponder if we with our modern military might could do what both Marley and alliance failing to do. It was fun researching this but I'm sure despite trying to get things right I've messed something up. If you spot holes in my logic be sure to point them out, preferably with reasoning why you think I'm wrong.
Yes, they are easily our most powerful weapons and turning paradise into a radioactive hole in the bottom of the ocean as soon as the rumbling starts would be the first and best solution.
Doubt a 30cal could do it. It's still several meters of flesh and bone. Something like a 50cal SLAP maybe. But even that is so light it would suffer from huge deviation post penetration making it really difficult to get a kill. Which is why I went with just auto cannons, their projectiles are heavier and they tend to come with better fire controll systems for more accurate engagement. Could be that it's just the tanker in me disregarding infantry tho.
@@addedcheese no you're probably correct. Would need an anti material round. Unless if the projectile was specifically made and wasn't just a steel core but perhaps solid or another metal like then tungsten they use in the tank sobot munitions
@@Kirbythediver there is a formula for RHA penetration for APFSDS for tank guns so I assume you could swap the density with that of meat but it specifically only worlds darts and it doesn't account for for material variation such as bones in the target. Either way, I'm not smart enough for that kind of math
These titans were stored in the walls of the kingdom. They were not taken from the population. And the number of tens of millions of titans was taken from the manga, not from the thin air.
the number of tens of millions doesn't match the size of the walls hence why I went with the more realistic number of 300 thousand ish. Also the titans weren't initially made form thin air hence why I brought up the population as a further reason why the number makes no sense. They had to come from somewhere and as the manga does not offer a straight solution, then the reasonable conclusion is that they were people turned into colossal titans by the founding titan.
I have a question realistically missiles are our best bet against dealing with the Titans however won't the steam act like a protective barrier for the Colossal Titans? I ask that because I remembered when Mikasa tried to attack Bertolt with the thunder spears back in season 3 he deflected it with his steam if that is the case can't the Colossal Titans do the same since they have the same ability?
It might have some very minor effects but not enough to actually protect a titan. Our missiles are just too heavy and too fast and they have fins to counter act external forces as well as keep them stable. While the weight of a thunder spear has never been mention it's estimated to be around 3-5kg and being powered by a simple black powder rocket it can't be much faster than 100m/s and probably is significantly slower than even that. Meanwhile a TOW missiles weighs around 18-22kg and travels between 270-320m/s depending on the variant. Unless the titans have force greater than your average jet engine with the steam is shouldn't really disrupt missiles. Still I don't know every single type of missile out there so some older and lighter ones might suffer more.
@@addedcheese Oh okay, thank you for the clarification, I'm not well-versed in military weapons, so thank you for that. On the steam thing, if one Colossal Titan could deflect a thunder spear, a weaker version of TOW missiles shouldn't the combined might of a thousand Colossal Titans generate enough force to deflect our missiles? If they all did what Bertolt did at the same time? Also, another question which one is better you think an air-based assault or a land-based one?
@@chrisanderson7258 I honestly don't know enough physics to be sure if the force from several titans would be cumulative or if it would just increase the area of effect. I wouldn't think it would still be enough to seriously disrupt the missile but that might come down to if the missile was in it's glide phase or if it was burning it's rocket motor. In terms of efficiency air is inherently safer and allows a larger number of simultaneous attacks to be conducted making it better. Basically the range advantage of aircraft eliminates any and all threat posed by the rumbling. Ground is a little more risky being more limited in mobility and range. Sure artillery can strike from tens of kilometers away but direct fire such as main tank armaments which is the more effective killing method is limited to a maximum range of around 3 km. But so long long as we are allowed vehicular combat neither really poses a serious threat and would yield a quick result. Admittedly if we assume that the steam could disrupt missiles limiting the range of air attacks then tanks would be the better way since the titans would have no protections against kinetic anti armour munitions.
we have already dealt with that problem, both ways, we have ERA, Depleted uranion shell encasing a ablative protection in tanks and ammunition, for example, the APFSDS, or Sabot for easier use, is a type of round in which the usa encase the tip with depleted uranium, which if heated, it only help the ammunition to penetrate even further, we use to counter Sabots with Era, but the new sabots heat even more and make the armour explode before touching it and then the inner armor starts melting before the round even touches it, it like a thunder spear but like 1000 year more advance and much more devatating, it alone could pierce the titan from any side and directly into the neck, seeng their flesh can be cut and that they can be killed by far inferior weaponry a single abrams could kill like 40 before running our of amunitions and i bet even 50 calls could tear them apart enough to get to the neck and kill it, its simply, we are far more advanced than the civilization in the anime this advancement is not linear is exponensial , so instead of just being apart like 50 years in tech, our weaponry could do 10x or more the damage than anything comparable and we have stuff much more powerfull than artillery. many say that infantry can do jack shit, well and m4 or m16 which are old weapons, is far stronger than what a blade of the best member of those soldiers could do, if modern infantry soehow know how to use the animation equipment, its done deal , even the m4 could penetrate the neck from behind and rip them apart from farther away, our snipers with barrets could also do short work of them, almost anything in our arsenal i dare to say even hand pistols from the correct angle could kill one of this giants, put a guy with a 9mm at the neck and its done, i doubt a human could do more damage with a blade than a bullet can, thats why we stoped using them when guns came into existance, they are just far superior
@@gerardovelazquez724 you are correct in a few things but also wrong in a few others. Yes, APFSDS doesn't give a flying toss about anything other than a solid object in regards to will it hit the target. ERA was initially invented to defeat shaped charge projectiles and only specialized heavy ERA, such as the Russian kontakt-5, has any real effect on purely kinetic munitions like APFSDS. Depleted uranium shells don't have any magical properties that really increase lethality to a noticeable degree and the material is predominantly used as projectiles made from it are generally cheaper as it is essentially a waste product, the material is pyrophoric but that hasn't been show to have any real increase in lethality. Also no it doesn't melt tank armour, even HEAT doesn't do that and it is significantly hotter than a sabot impact of any kind. the reason I and a lot of others don't think infantry alone would be effective against the titans comes down to their size, speed and numbers. It would take an insane amount of small arms fire to penetrate a titan from the front all the way to the neck to a point where you could reliably hit it as that is several meters of flesh, on average a .556 penetrates a maximum of 50cm of soft tissue (according to a quick google search) and you'd need multiple hits in the same spot to get to the nape and even then a single hit wouldn't be able to break it, since it is mentioned that you need to completely destroy it. Even a 50bmg wouldn't really be a viable weapon in a single shot configuration such as a precision rifle, if you really intend to kill all 600 000 of them. Not only that they move at around 50km/h, that is a little over 31 miles per hour meaning that it's not really an easy shot and you'd get squished pretty quickly. and finally, we stopped using sword several hundred years after gunpowder weapons came to play. The main reason they were used in the first place was because it was much quicker to teach a guy how to shoot a gun that it was to teach him to be a competent archer, whilst still retaining and acceptable degree of lethality and an early gun was cheaper to produce than a high end war crossbow.
killing Eren would be trivial, a single B-52 armed with a full load of harpoon missiles could destroy his entire body and we have thousands of those missiles. Not even considering stronger guided weapons or the nuclear option. That's why it's trivial.
strategy can also be very effectiv because the titans tends to advence in a line formation, we could focus the fire power in one point of the formation, break the line and attacking them from the rear, causing disorganisation and slowing there advence
If we are excluding nukes then probably not. Maybe with full combined arms, the main issue is number of weapons. 600 000 is s lot to kill when it's not one shot one kill for most weapons
@@Shade_Santiago I purposefully included all aircraft in a different category to infantry since you can't fire a man portable AT weapon in an aircraft. It needs to be pylon mounted and the it's again a bit of a problem with the number of weapons if the US were alone. For example only around 100 000 hellfires have been produced and not all of those for the US.
@@addedcheese Well either way logically i think the military would identify the giant skeleton lookin titan (eren) that dwarfs the colossal titans as the main threat and send in missles or precision strikes
