I see what you mean with the noise, sometimes it's part of vinyl that vinyl experience we accept but still enjoy!!.... Not heard this in a very long time, so many great memories, back in the early 90s I had an Alpine full audio system,(cassette head unit and CD multi-cartridge, separate 300watt power amp, 6 6x9 speakers) in my car, that was probably worth as much as the 4 year old Mitsubishi Gallant was at the time, and Chris Rea's Road To Hell, Yello's The Race and Seal's Killer were the 3 tracks that always remind me of those days in the Gallant, I could literally feel the music!, that intro with Chris's voice is just an amazing experience, I still have that Alpine head unit and one of the amps...I remember the amp required a 60amp power cable that had to be directly connected to the battery and not the car's circuit, I still ended up going through 2 alternators.....
Love this tune. It had a powerful effect on me the first time I heard it back in the mid 90's. Thanks for not chopping off the intro like many people do, its the best part.
Thanks, i remember being very impressed with this album too at the time. I try to avoid cutting parts of this conceptual pieces, because this songs were made to be heard as one big song. I know many people will prefer the second part over the first, but in my opinion the intro is there to build up tension and prepare the listener for the climax of part 2. For the complete emotional impact, one should listen both parts! I suppose that was the intention of the artist.
great stuff. This is the first time I have listened to Chris Rea. I instantly thought of Johnny Cash and Dire Straits rolled into one! anyhoo that's my take....
Огромное спасибо за полную версию. В наше время сокращенных версий, переработанных вариантов, фастфуда, с наслаждением послушал все от первой до последней секунды. Классная вещь. Классное звучание. С уважением, из России.
My father like this song.. Listening to it brought me back to my childhood and made me call my dad cause he`s hundreds miles away and I didn`t hear him for weeks... Thank you for this song!
When I saw the video on MTV in 1989, the song was powerful and really good, especially the video with the first and second part combined. I think Chris Rea sold this album The Road To Hell in the biggest circulation that year, because this song was so popular and famous on all radio stations and it was a big hit.
This is how music should sound! Love your videos and your way of filming. Thank you for uploading such a masterpiece. You have great equipment and taste in music. That intro is the best part! Thanks for uploading full song!

MrVinylObsessive Sounds different from my copy , more open and detail , old german copy is definitely warm side , little muffled with good dynamics not crisp like a new release.
@@ortortor Don't worry about that, the video part is just for eye-candy, an accessory for entertaining purposes. The important part is the music and the audio.
Great choice. I was a big fan of Chris Rea back in the 80s (the albums Water Sign and Shamrock Diaries are amongst his best) and still am. This was one of the last albums I bought on vinyl before switching to CDs (and then switching back again).
Like a lot of people, the first song I listened from Chris Rea was, obviously, "On the beach", in the 80's-90's; very "personal" voice. Thanks for sharing !
This is one of your very best, Rui! I just love the tone of the vocal when it enters after the intro. The M25 (the orbital motorway round London) really IS the Road To Hell ;o) "People stranded on the M25 west of London should expect to be there for at least another 4 hours". Been there, done that, worn the T-shirst. Lol!
LOL, you won the T-shirt? Congratulations, Bob! Four hours in a traffic jam is a tough test for any human. I also have my share once in a while, but no T-shirt, yet. 😄 I'm pleased you liked, Bob. Curiously, it was that vocal tonality that compelled me to make a video with this song. This record doesn't sound compressed at all to me, i mean, at least for a pop rock album.

Never head before today, 4-2019 but your musical choices are always so good many thanks, it has a little Dire straights sound to me, I know you like Mark. Starts about 5:01 to get Knopfler-ish, sweet and smooth.
@@jamespasifull Actually, they've been around from pretty much the same time , as both Chris Rea's debut album ("Whatever Happened To Benny Santini?") and Dire Straits's debut album ("Dire Straits") came out the same year (1978). Chris Rea and Mark Knopfler have different styles but they share some similarities (a talent for great storytelling in their songwriting, a unique voice that compliments the guitar playing rather than becoming the main focus; they've both been blessed with having access to wonderful talented musicians in their rhythm sections (bassist & drummer) throughout their careers; and of course there's the fact that they both favoured the Stratocaster guitar which has a uniquely and instantly recognizable sound and is one of the 2 most iconic and acclaimed guitars of all time - the other being of course the Les Paul which Mark also used occasionally like on the "Brothers In Arms" album).
The road to hell part two was released as a single from the album and part one was probably the traffic report massive hold ups on the M25 and traffic jams and rain and dizzy and heavy showers some joke made on the 1989 edition of top of the pops episode by Bruno Brookes when rea performance on the show.
