I recently learned that my son & his girlfriend are joining a SAR group affiliated with their county in AZ. One of the requirements to be in the group is getting at least a Technician license within 1 year of joining. I am aware of similar groups in California that also use ham radio as the primary communication for searchers.
I don’t recall the name of the team. The one my son is joining is affiliated with Maricopa County in AZ. One that I’m aware of in CA works with the San Bernardino County sheriffs department.
I have lived in 3 different states over the years. I have found that how closely ham radio works with various emergency services groups varies significantly between regions and localities. The closest relationships I have seen are in California.
Nice job on the video! 73
Thanks Jeff.
Great video. KE8WKS...
Good video, Tom thanks.
Impressive! Great job Tom!!!
So you guys use ham radio for SAR work? I’ve been told that’s a NO. I’ve been a ham for 23 years. Love the idea…

@@HamRadioA2Z now that’s interesting as sar in general frowns on Amateur radio in general…I love the idea…. What’s the name of the sar team?

Thanks Tom. Did your comms team set up a local digipeater for the drill? Also, I’ve learned a ton about my new IC7300 from your videos.
Loved the video at the meeting! Now can share with others, thank you. KF0DRN
