The Carpenter’s Christmas album is a staple in my home. Every song is great. “Merry Christmas, Darling”, “Christmas Waltz”, and “Ave Maria” are my faves.
Karen Carpenter's "I'll be Home for Christmas" is just angelic.
This is not even one of their BEST Christmas songs. It's not Christmas without a Carpenters song. The slow version of "Santa Claus Is Comin To Town." and Merry Christmas Darling is a classic by them. Karen's voice is so suited to Christmas.

@@Greg042869 Richard brought his customary attention-to-detail to the task of producing the albums. He sought out lesser-knows songs, restored seldom-heard versus to vintage ballads, commissioned richly melodic overtures, and segued and reprised songs so the music would play as a suite.
This painstaking approach stands in contrast to the casual way many performers approach Christmas Albums. “We didn’t want to just pick the 10 most popular Christmas songs and go in and record them in a few sessions,” Richard says. “I had the album pictured the way I wanted it - and it took time to get it right.”

As many people have already suggested, "Merry Christmas Darling" is another one you really should listen to. Their version of "The Christmas Song" is excellent too! As a matter of fact, their whole Christmas album is a classic!! To me and I'm sure a lot of other people...her voice IS Christmas :)

I'm a grown-ass man, and the end of "Merry Christmas, Darling" makes me cry, every time. Yup ... I teared up rn, just thinking about it. Lol! This whole album is, hands-down, my favorite-ever Christmas album!
Karen Carpenter’s voice can only be labeled as “angelic” in my opinion. Her voice floats up and down the range effortlessly! As much as I love to hear her singing, it always tugs at my heart how she needlessly passed.
Anorexia was a word that I had never heard of until she was diagnosed. The ONLY “good” thing that came from her passing was that she brought out into the light how so many people (especially young girls) had eating disorders, and were literally starving themselves to death because they felt they were too fat, even when they weren’t! Because of her, and her life story, illnesses like anorexia nervosa and bulimia were brought out into the light, and were paid much more attention to, than they had been in the past. I’m sure her life story helped to save many, many people’s lives.
This is from the Carpenters Christmas Portrait album, quite possibly the best Christmas album ever produced.

I was expecting either Merry Christmas Darlin' or There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays, since those are their two most well known and greatest Christmas songs, but this one is great as well. Her voice is something to behold.
Her midrange is what separated her from all the rest. So deep and rich with soothing over tones, she has never been duplicated. An amazing woman!
My mother still tears up when she hears Karen sing. She always told me Karen had one of the purest voices ever. She also cries when she thinks about the way she died. So very sad.

Karen Carpenter had one of those one of a kind voices. Such a great talent so sadly that was lost way too early. "Merry Christmas Darling"(written for her by brother, Richard) is a must listen.
I heard them live at my small college in W. PA. in early 70’s. Their luggage was lost and they came on in jeans and sweatshirts. Made it even more special.
You need to get the 1984 CD release of "Christmas Portrait." It's about 80 minutes long and it just flows all the way through. There's probably no more than 2 or 3 hard stops through the whole album. It really showcases the musical genius of Karen's brother Richard. It's the most beautifully arranged and produced albums I've ever heard.
The Carpenter's Christmas Album is by far one of the best Christmas albums ever made. "Merry Christmas Darlin" by The Carpenter's was and still is one of the best Christmas songs written. A must react to.

Saw them in 1972 . Karen was one of the best drummers/singers of all time. She sang and drummed effortlessly

RIP Karen. I still have their albums...yes albums...from the 70s. Her voice...oh my! They were so talented. Thank you for doing this. I still have Carpenters' albums but hadn't listened to them in 40 years because I miss her so much. But now I've pulled them out again.
The Carpenters actually recorded an entire Christmas album, and I think they did several Christmas TV specials. All their songs, and all their Christmas songs are great, but the best one is "Merry Christmas Darling." Richard Carpenter co-wrote and arranged it, and it is much more characteristic of their style.

This was from their Christmas special, Christmas Portrait. It was fantastic. This is where they involved the group they formed. Anything you play from that album is gold. Merry Christmas Darling, Richard wrote but Christ is Born is absolutely amazing! Karen never warmed up & had a perfect contralto voice.

Karen's brother Richard is equally talented in his own way. He selected the songs, re-did the arrangements, selected the instruments and handled the business end except for the year she was married.
Arguable, one of the best (if not THE best) voices in the history of recorded music. She is sorely missed!

We have a radio station here in Seattle that does Christmas music during November and December. The Carpenters are a staple.

That video was from one of their annual Christmas TV Specials back in the days when there were only 3 networks. Every year, the December TV schedule was full of these from folks including The Carpenters, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, and many others.
Karen has a deeper voice than I remembered. But you’re right, her tone and enunciation are clear and perfect.
Love the Carpenters however listen to Johnny Mathis sing this or just about any other Christmas song. People fell in love in the 50's and 60's while slow dancing to his unique and dreamy voice. It is one of a kind.

Thanks for highlighting how she perfectly enunciates every. single. word. No matter how intricate the melody, she pronounced every word soooo clearly. Just listen to how much care she uses in handling the simple word "you". How many artists do you hear slur the word or sloppily rush through it to get to the next "big" crescendo. That attention to making the small things perfect carries through to make infuse all her music. That's why when you listen to any of her songs "perfect" is the descriptor that springs immediately to mind.
I could listen to her sing anything. A truly magnificent voice that carries you away to another place.
The first man Bob Messenger who played a variety of instruments and sang the first part in this song, passed away about 3 weeks ago....the other guy Doug Strawn died a few years back of cancer I believe....Doug's voice was the male Karen Carpenter....he had a voice of honey....while hers was a voice of honey dipped in vanilla, chocolate and sprinkled with angeldust......

Karen has one of the greatest voices ever. Their Christmas album is one of my favorites. You can wrong with any Carpenter's song. The guy sitting at the piano is her brother Richard, the other half of the Carpenter's.
She's been my favourite singer since I was a little girl. I was 51 this year and still love to listen and croak along.

I love the beginning of this song, where Karen is basically singing a capella - such a beautiful voice! It isn’t Christmas until I hear the Carpenter’s Christmas album, and the Nat King Cole Christmas album.

Karen Carpenter had a beautiful voice, didn't she? I watched your reactions to Pavarotti and wondered if you've ever heard of an American tenor named Mario Lanza? He passed much too young but once you've heard his voice, you will not soon forget it. His rendition of the Christmas hymn O Holy Night is really good.

I remember being 14 and knowing every single word to every single Carpenter Christmas song by the end of the week….out of sheer repetition. Karen Carpenter was such a talent, she had one of the most beautiful voices ever. Whenever I hear her sing I am overwhelmed by joy at the sound of her voice and heartbroken that she died so young. We should have had hundreds of hours more of her beautiful voice.

Do y'all realize the Carpenters starred in several Christmas specials - their own Christmas shows? They were extremely popular at Christmas. This is from one of those shows. Great version of a great Christmas song. Christmas seems to have about 20 songs that are covered by multiple people. Everybody has their favorite version. Karen Carpenter has one of the best female voices in modern music. It was a tragedy that her career was cut short.

Sleigh Ride is one of the most classic Christmas songs of all time, and the Carpenters' version is one of my favorites. That entire album is a masterpiece -- possibly the best album they ever created!
