    Great first couple days. Chilly this trip. Beautiful trail to enjoy along the way with the river and waterfalls. You are making great miles but that means you finish early potentially. Nice campsite by the river. The white noise of the creek must certainly be soothing. Hope you don't get too cold in that lower location. Take care and have a great day.

      Way colder than the winter. lol. But we stayed warm. For as difficult this trail is it is beautiful in its own way. Slept like a baby along the creek.

    The previous hike sounded brutal. Cool that you went back to tackle it again. With better conditions, gear, fitness, and knowledge. Motivation to complete it.

      It was. Mainly because of the heat and being overgrown. Seemed totally different this time around. Still difficult but I think removing the heat and overgrowth out of the equation made the biggest difference.

      Thanks! It was a different experience this time around. Still very difficult it just removing a few factors really made the difference.

    Thanks for the videos. Been on my bucket list for years, but after watching, would only do the west loop. Same old story with the CKT. Tough trail with not enough trail maintenance. Looks like nice camping though.

      The west loop is much better. Both in difficulty and trail maintenance. The east loop is worse but if you decide to do it, do it before it is hot and gets overgrown like early spring. Late fall would be good too.

    This looked colder than your last trip where it rained the 2nd day!? Beautiful scenery, Spring is upon us!!

    Just started the video, but man, couldn't pay me enough to try this trail again. When i went it was a nightmare LOL

      I feel your pain. It was a nightmare when I did it in July of 2021. Still wasn’t that great this go round. But with doing it early with lower temps and little to no underbrush it was much more tolerable. The west loop wasn’t that bad. Now when we get to the east loop I understood why we bailed before finishing it last time. But the main reason for doing this was because I didn’t finish it before.

    Glad to see your opinion is changing of the trail just by going at a different time of the year! Any interesting in section hiking the AT or other long trails outside of PA?

      It’s amazing what a different time of year can do for anyway. I’ve already sectioned hike the AT throughout PA. I have a couple trails outside of PA in mind. Just lazy in doing the logistics. There are still a large amount of trails in PA that I haven’t gotten to. The Mid State Trail in PA is a 300 mile long distance trail. Donut Hoke Trail is over 100 miles and there are many just under 100 miles.

    are you still going to use dutch quilted hammock?...

    • @backpackingadventures4813
      @backpackingadventures4813  2 місяці тому +1

      Yep. Just used it on my thru hike of the Susquehannock Trail. Like any of my gear it will depend on the type of trip because of the weight. The quilted hammock is about 12oz heavier than my regular summer hammock with my 40 degree underquilt. So if I’m going for pushing high miles between 20-30 a day I will take my lighter setup instead. But I love the quilted hammock. Very comfortable and so much easier.
