I have been driving a 25-year-old Hiace in Hungary for 20 years. I can safely say that it is one of the most reliable vans in the world ... Just that damn rust wouldn't be ...
I'm from UAE, Haice is a huge deal here too, sadly the previous generation Haice has killed way too many people, I'm happy to see Toyota has stepped up its safety
I have been worked in dealership as OJT in Toyota The Hiace Manual has a massive problem since its transmission is too big, it scrapes of Clutch disc like a pencil, i remember cleaning them. But the automatic has no probs, dont care about DPF Issues, i need diesel for fuel efficiency
The Ford Transit is easliy the best in class. Australia must have something for Toyota's as the Transit is easily the best selling van in Europe and the UK for very good reasons. (Plus the Toyota is strange looking thing to say the least?)
Wonder how they will compare when over 200,000km on them and the difference in re-sale. I just test drove the Ford and the Toyota and the Hiace just felt better (but didn't LOOK better)... plus that reliability and the torque difference was chalk and cheese with the Toyota just feeling so much better and incomparable to its predecessor. Hiace will be an easy choice for most.
@@DJPMackin Update, don't go near a Ford Transit Custom with their 'wet belt' problems. Must be renewed at 100,000 K's or six years (instead of Ford's original 150,000 or 10 years), about $2500Aus to fix. If you don't fix and the belt frays it will destroy the engine.
No mention of lack of driver assist entry grab handle or the wasted space between driver and passenger seat. No arm rest for driver. Most unusual for this company to waste space.
The black ford transit custom sport model does not belong in this comparison as it's a sports model not designed for load-carrying it's a show car the type of van you line with carpet or convert to a camper.
looking for a new van right now, from watching reviews and weighing up all options it's clear the Hiace is the overall winner, albeit it looks like a lego car, and only two seats at the front. Really had hoped Hyundai made a new improved iLoad because I love them the most, but instead they stopped production and made that disgusting looking Staria. Hands down the Ford custom sport is the best looking van on the road by far, but thats about where it ends, it's basically the slowest new van(crazy considering it's tough looks) and from speaking to owners it's also plagued with mechanical issues. The one other van is the Transporter T6, fastest ICE van on the road atm I believe, but I don't think I can justify the extra price over the Hiace. So for me it's either search for a 2021 iload just out of pure love for them, or go grab the trusty new fairly priced Toyota Lego van. Shame about the Transits being lemons because they look hot, but I need reliability, as do all ppl driving commercial vehicles (time is money)
Hi mate - I’m looking at the 2017 automatic version atm - I’m confused because of all the positive uk reviews .. or are you referring to the latest model? Much appreciate any answers tx
@@thinkitthroughful gday mate, tbh I've only known two ppl that have owned them and both didn't like them, one was a fellow electrician but built motors in his spare time so I trusted his opinion and he dealt with many different vans as a supervisor in charge of at least 7 different vans at a time. He said he'd take an iload any day of the week over a transit(the one he had at the time was I believe a 2018-2019 model and constant issues he said, pointing out large issues he had with the diff). On top of this they are one of the slowest new vans around which is weird because they are also one of the smallest(not much room in the back compared to iload's, staria's, hiace etc)
Seems like some people just came here to have their choice vindicated, LOL. I came to verify what i discovered myself after test driving the Ford then the Hiace.
True... but it's just a van for work. Have a much nicer looking car so not fussed what the van looks like, just that it is safe and reliable. Toyota is brilliant.
The hiace is actually very pretty and the longer bonet increases its safety too. The Peugeot is also great and toyota has rebadged the Peugeot in Europe as toyota proace
@@alanmay7929 , yeah it’s a giant leap in terms of safety. I drove one of the old hiaces regularly up until a few years ago. Always felt vulnerable, especially on the open road.
I know it's very plain. Looking at buying a campervan: Hi Ace vs VW transporter. One is plain but dependable, does everything adequately without being outstanding and is unlikely to let you down; the other is dead sexy and interesting, but more expensive and can you really trust it. Ultimately not sure I can look at the Hi Ace every day...just sayin...
Unless the 6 month 10k kms service period has changed, this alone should have dropped the hi ace. Yes. I know the servicing is reasonably cheap but the inconvenience!
@@s4127419 I think they're referring to the inconvenience of it being out of action more often due to such a low service interval. Especially for delivery drivers who do a lot of travel. 10,000 KM service intervals would see their van out of action 5+ days per year which is a lot!
Courier or tradee they used this van all day they not discuss about fuel efficiency because Toyota failed in this factor. And service every 10k cost money overall Toyota is expensive to run and it's big bother on business they not want to discuss that because they get paid from Toyota
Hiace 200 series had bumpy uncomfortable ride, poor handling, unpredictable poor brake performance and higher engine vibration compared to Nissan NV300 (Urvan). What about LH300. Hope newer is better..

No it doesn't. The Hiace is superior in both popular opinion and factual statistics. There is literally no criteria where your transit matches the current 2021 Hiace.
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior I don't know about where you live, here in the UK it's not about matching, just looking on the roads and you will notice at least 40 Ford Transit Custom to every Hiace. Hiace all-day long' at least you know its always gonna start and spend more time on the road' unlike the other two.
And being RWD it will carry loads better
Peugeot Expert is the best by far. A beautiful and reliable van with lots of practicality.
