The spot you're flying free your parrot's is absolutely perfect! 👍 No woods within sight = no potential endanger comming from predators above. I'm still reflecting on whether or not my 10 years hand-fed Hahn's macaw Kermit is ready enough to experience freeflying 🤔
We try to be incredibly mindful when picking level one locations since the birds have the disadvantage of being inexperienced. Hope we get to be part of your journey with Kermit!
I absolutely love galahs! I love boomer and bondi and boogie and bandit. I want a galah so bad! I would name her Bindi if I had one. I really love all of the boomer videos and seeing him learn free flight!
What an uplifting video! I wished we lived near you. My male galah has flown by his own desire, out of a barn and up a tree. He did come down easily... thankfully. 🦜
I hope we can see Bogie's freeflight journey soon :))). Same Emily, I want Cheeky to freefly more than she does lol. 😂 Although, I think Bogie would be a natural whereas Cheeky's training (and mine) would take an eternity.... Go Bogie, the super stuff pink puff! (Kirby reference). 💕😇🦜🕊
Thanks a lot for a new video! always so happy to see how you work with your birds during freeflights! May be you could help me with my question? do you have any suggestions from what temperature you take you birds outside for walk and into aviary? May be you have it in any videos of yours or in on of the courses, and i just missed it? Here you wear a pretty worm clothes from time to time so i really wonder what temperature is outside. Because i had a caique that really loves to walk outside on harness , but i'm not sure from which temperature it is save to take him out. usually i started to take him then it is around 20°C outside ( 68 °F ) but don't know if we could walk outside if a temperature lover than that. And again thank you so much for all stuff that you did it really helped me a lot with my first bird!
No, I don't, sorry. When we first got our dog as a puppy I got this book called 101 Puppy Tricks or something like that off Amazon, and trained him a ton of tricks in that. And then Dave really focused on obedience cues "stay, leave it, drop it" etc... and then Dave also focused on fear responses (he was scared of water initially) but I never felt confident or comfortable having the dog around the birds often, especially if they were in flight. I've heard too many horror stories.
You probably have a video on this, but how in the world do you teach a bird to free fly? I’m sure they have to be trained to come to you first, but what keeps them from flying away once they’re outside?
I used to play hide and seek with the dog, actually that's was how I fixed his recall, as he used to run off to go play with the dog on the other side of the field, so I started hiding as soon as he did and waiting for him to realise I was gone, it stopped the running away problem extremely quickly! I never considered whether it would be a good idea with birds, but it makes sense that it would work on any pack/flock/herd animal
Here are some tips: 1. Get a large cage if you don’t have one. Each type of bird needs a different sized cage, so I can’t tell you how big it should be. Just make sure you have a big cage. Birds can become territorial very easily, so it’s best to eliminate that possibility. 2. Don’t stick your hand in often, and when you do (to put food/water in, or change the perches or toys,) wear something like a glove (so your hand won’t look like your hand) this way, the bird wont associate your hand with intrusion. 3. When the bird bites you, hold your hand still and do not move. No matter how much it hurts, you need to teach the bird that biting will not solve the problem. The bird just wants you to go away. If you whip your hand back when it tries to bite you, that will teach it that biting you makes you go away. After it realizes that biting you won’t do anything, it will stop biting. 4. Let the bird come out of the cage on it’s own. Stay by the cage, talk to the bird, read to it, sing to it, etc. and after a few days, you’ll make significant progress. After a few weeks, your bird will not be scared of you or your hands. Do this one day: Put the birds favorite food outside of the cage and normal food/food it doesn’t like in the cage. The bird will come out of it’s cage to get the food it likes. Do this often. 5. Make sure the bird is not eating any seeds in it’s main diet unless it is a tiny bird like a budgie or a finch. You want your bird to be on a main diet of pellets and veggies. This way, your bird will be a lot more excited to get seeds as training treats. Think of it like this: If you only ate candy, you wouldn’t be that excited to get more candy because you already eat it every day. However, if you only eat veggies, you would be a lot more excited to get candy because you don’t eat it every day. 6. Take baby steps! The bird won’t like you immediately. Trust takes time. Don’t try to rush! If you rush, you will likely destroy the good relationship you have formed. Good luck! I hope this helps! P.S. here is an excellent article that I used when training my bird. It works like magic! www.parrotforums.com/general-parrot-information/49144-tips-bonding-building-trust.html
Hi , i have a cockatiel ,which is about 1y/o , he friendly , but sometimes he just turns very aggressive for no reason , idk how to make him trust me (Love ur vids )
Hi, I am a twelve year old living at home with my parents. I’m in seventh grade and go to school with no other after school activities, but my parents are divorced and I switch houses with them every so often. I’m trying to convince my mom to let me buy a green cheek conure which I’ve been told aren’t very loud. Could you maybe give me some tips and insight?
Having your bird have his first exploratory flight is absolutely nerve racking. Theres no doubt about it though its really amazing to watch

Hi! I know it’s unrelated to this video, but do you have any videos of your dog and your birds and how you trained them to be together??
No, I don't, sorry. When we first got our dog as a puppy I got this book called 101 Puppy Tricks or something like that off Amazon, and trained him a ton of tricks in that. Why don’t they fly away?

What’s the difference between a red fronted and a military
Red fronted macaws have different colorations and are MUCH smaller.
