I live on St. Kitts & Nevis and it's more expensive generally for day to day things but things like housing and child care can be less expensive here than in the US... You can also get a NIKE sneakers for $295 - $450... $750 is extreme I find. it also depends on where you shop. Government schooling and healthcare for children and seniors is also basically almost free up to an associates degree, excluding books, uniforms and school supplies. So there are pros and cons...You have to also incorporate things like utility bills etc. to give a complete picture..
How can St. Kitts and Nevis citizens live a modern life when the essentials of life are beyond the reach of ordinary people with an ordinary income because of the high customs fees for ordinary products such as electronics?
@dovygoodguy1296 In my opinion, the essentials of life are Given by God Freely. It is when we want more or what is out of our reach when things like this become an issue. Modern life is not a necessity is it?. Quality life is... and the quality of life is determined by each individual 🌻
@dovygoodguy1296 I've told people, when ordering from Amazon and the like... the duty fees can be just as much as the costs of then the item. I suggest people buy what they need. Not what they want. Living that motto, my husband and I have saved money, reduced wasting items, and have become more self sufficient on the island. We have ordered things for our business, things to make money with, not to just spend money on. So basically, we do not order from online sites unless it is something we absolutely need. We ordered 3x this year. 🌻
Hi, I think your explanation and example are approached the wrong way. First of all you should explain that it depends on where in the US you live., and also where in st kitts you live. In the city of Newark New Jersey, which has a multiple range of income and neighborhood, the average 1 Bedroom is $1400. Vs $700 in st kitts. Remember outside of groceries rent is a recurring expense every month. Amazon or shopping for tights are not. So rental alone saves you half. Depending on where you live in St. Kitts, a back yard garden or even a window pot can save you on some produce like herbs and spices, tomatoes, peppers. You haven't even attempted to hilight these differences, and they are much more.

@@yogabaejay I'm just referring to the issue of availability.
@dovygoodguy1296 it's true. It can be expensive to import. But what I have seen, a vast majority of the products needed are here on island.
@@yogabaejay I'm thinking specifically about day to day things that people nowadays take for granted obtaining from Amazon etc.
