I have played guitar both acoustic and electric for years and never felt comfortable using a pick so I avoided it. I would ask other guitarists who played professionally how to use it but they could not explain it. When they noticed me using only my fingers they would just say, "You need to learn how to use a pick." This was a great video because so many really good guitarists even guitar teachers can't explain it well. Ol Perfecto did it.... he is good at explaining the intricacy of it and gives us for free practice exercises to speed up the learning process to go from beginner to advanced. Bravo!!
I am a guitarist but happened to be blind. I'm having a hard time learning these picks proper positions since I can't see the hand of UA-camrs. Even the shape and size of their picks... I'm glad some of them at least naming the string and fret number when they teach a solo or something. That way I can follow what and how to play - instead of saying just 'this, play that, and then this...'
@blindstreet Not sure if it helps still but pick sizes are largely down to preference - what is the most comfortable for you to hold. It's best to try out a bunch and see what is easiest for you. I had to do this several times - as I got better and I held my hand closer to the strings, I started to prefer a smaller pick. The tusqs are my current favorites.
Thats why I'm here. Being impatient with learning how to use pick and shot my self in the foot in the long run. Now i can easily use the fret board but my right hand isn't following

Thank you for speaking about pick angle, that's the hardest part for me because nobody ever tells about it and I felt like my pick gets stuck to the strings, I noticed it helps if I use a different angle but I wasn't sure if I'm supposed to do so. 🙏

maybe that's why i am finding it really hard to pick strings in the three-note-per-string picking becoz i've been using down-up-down/down-up-down picking. yun kasi ang turo ng ibang guitarists. the reasoning behind it is that sa down-up-down/up-down-up na tinuturo dito, nagtatravel pa raw yung picking hand ng malayo to strike the next string, so why not ideretso na lang raw sa down stroke ang pagpick ng next string AFTER the last down stroke ng preceding string. in short, masubukan nga itong tinuturo dito lol ang haba pa ng explanation ko lol
Hindi ako pro guitar player pero kung gusto mo matuto mag gitara dapat palagi mo hinahawakan ang gitara kahit hindi ka tumutugtog kahit mang hula hula kalang ok lang ganon ako nasanay sa strings ng gitara at natutong mag scaling totoo tlga ang practice makes perfect 👌

i regret playing with my fingers bc its hard af to play with a pic now
