Probably the most important lesson I've had in years. I've seen countless videos on this that never talk about thumb placement. Dude, I'm halfway there in five minutes thanks to you
Oh goodness, I'm finaly managing to play with my pinky properly. I'm studying the guitar all by myself for ~1 month and couldn't figure out how to stop pinky finger from doing weird convulsion-like movements and it was ridiculously frustrating :| Thank you for the guide!
Hello Mr De Castro. I've been playing for decades, and watching instructional videos on YT for a bit more than 1 decade. This particular instructional video is one of the most helpful I've ever seen, and you are one of the best teachers I've seen also, based on a sample size of 1 (this video). So thanks! From a grateful new subscriber living in Dunedin, New Zealand. P.S. What a tasty little intro you played there!
I can't begin to tell you how helpful this little tip has been! I've been trying to teach myself to play now for about 4 months and I literally felt like my pinky was deformed. I'm not sure i ever would have figured this out on my own but this seems to make a world of a difference. I really appreciate it. Thanks so much!
I have been playing guitar for 40 years and found this incredibly helpful. I never realized that my thumb will sometimes slip parallel as opposed to perpendicular. In fact if you really want to see the biggest difference with the thumb position, for those of you that I’ve tried the spider technique or the spider finger exercise to improve your finger strength, try doing the exercise with your thumb in each position and you will see a tremendous difference when it’s done properly the way this dude just explained it.
Thanks man, great exercise! Ive hardly used my pinky in solos for my 40 something years of playing. I love exercises now, they are the only way to acquire technique. INTENSITY- do it correctly, FREQUENCY- do it daily, DURATION- in a week or two you have acquired the skill. That is how "muscle memory" works. Sorry if I'm ranting. Thanks for the vid.
I’m 59, been playing since preteens. Bar chords have been a problem for me. But after this lesson I can now ring every string. This was a great lesson. No one ever showed me this
So important for beginners to understand the bio-mechanics of the hand to start off with good playing habits. I love the explanation of that before the exercise demonstration. Understanding that along with the exercises is a great foundation for unlocking the hand for better finger independence.
Sir Perf. Maraming salamat. Thank you ulit Sir Perf! Stay safe! Bike Safe!
@@dipensubedi5666 They move independently yes but more important point than that it's more stable. For example when thumb is low positioned pinky is not shaking. And therefore when you need pinky it's ready to play. You're theaching it to be cool with this exercise. But it takes time so be patient. :)
Salamat sir perf!!! Grabe tagal ko nag hahanap ng video regarding sa thumb position na ginagawa ko.may mga pagkakataon kasi nag kakaganon ung thumb ko.... Salamat sa content na to... More power sir perf!!
Perfecto De Castro- muy Util. thanks so much for an easy explanation and you make it seem pretty easy , the small pinky is where all lies....................
wish I've found your video sooner because this is really helpful! when I practiced my pinky always curls and or out of angle, now I can do the exercise more relaxed and not painful at all! Thank you so much!
This video was so friggin helpful. As someone who took viola lessons growing up I was no stranger to the concept of hand posture, but having never taken actual guitar lessons i never had a solid idea of what hand posture means for guitars. Thank you!!
waw this is superb i have been playing the guitar and now i discovered why i cant proceed to more use of my pinky before but you just taught me one stroke of luck here a MAGIC in this little finger and i easily managed to do the exercise which i will cherish for the rest of my life...PERFECTO indeed cheers kapatid!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge in guitar to us. I love the way you teach, it's ez to understand. 😊 God bless you!! Keep on sharing and teaching 😇
I have small hands, and my hand curls into a ball naturally. So the index and pinky point in towards each other, as if I'm holding a ball. I will have to stretch and also practise this a lot. The best thing I'm taking away from this, is to go with the most natural position for my hand and fingers. So I'll be trying variations of my thumb position. My fingers are very short.
Dude!!! I literally searched your video from my long history to comment... I am practicing guitar for 4 years and almost lost hope that I would be using my pinky anyday. Your video made my pinky fair enough to play good fingerstyle songs and do hammerings... And that too surprisingly within few 10 days practice... Thanks Man! You're a champ...
Wow. Although i had control of my pinky and also had thumb position correct through my guitar playing past years, the problem is my pinky flies straight position everytime i do the cromatic exercise. Done this finger exercise couple of minutes ago and my pinky really had a workout. Thanks. Big help.
Thnks a lot sir......ur just 10 mins had really changed many things in my guitar playing.... Extremely thankful that u r sharing this to beginners like me..,
My goodness, thank you! I've been practicing C and pinky G switch this week and my pinky ofc thought "let's dance macarena." Obviously - the culprit was the thumb! Nice little adjustment, 5 minutes of practice and voila, it seems easy. Cheers man, you saved me lots of time
Wow, this helped a lot! I'm currently working on "Play with me" solo by Extreme. Only the thumb position solved all the pinky problems which made me increase the speed and progression so much faster! Thank you! 😀
That was a really great, very concise video that actually addresses several issues I'm experiencing. Thank you so much for taking the time to produce and post this video. I really appreciate it.
