There was nearly an uprising about a month ago when countless ardent WH fans repeatedly demanded they bring back the irreplaceable 'acerbic wit dude'. He was likely on vacation, but I thought he'd left or been canned and I was lost. I knew I was fond of him, but Weird History is one of my favorite channels and I didn't realize how much of that is dependent on 'The Voice'; it wouldn't be nearly as marvelous without him. In any case, if there's a chance it'll put your mind at ease, I'll share what I suspect is going on.
Weird History has grown A LOT since I started watching their videos three years ago; they produce a lot more content than they used to and I'm thinking they hired another narrator so our dude, 'The Voice' doesn't burn out and retire. So, it's probably a good thing. If I had my way, he'd still narrate every video, but it seems like he's still the voice for most of them. I don't think he's going anywhere, especially now that he must know how beloved he is. There's no way they could've missed the outpouring of indignation and fierce demands that "The Voice" return. It was startling to see how many others in the comment sections, (nearly every comment, actually) expressed their fear that he'd left. I thought he was my particular kink... turns out, he has broad appeal.
      So, I hope that helps.❤

I've heard a number of stories about how a song was pushed as "Controversial" to boost its popularity among the rebellious/counter culture at the time. Like saying a "Satanic Message" was hidden in a certain B side single if you play it backwards.
B side single by the way comes from when records had two sided. The popular song would be put on the A side of a record. A second lesser song from the same artist or another artist on the same label would be included on the B side. I was reminded of this from a few podcasts when music/MP3 sales where brought up as a way to boost album sales.

The thing is about the elvis costello snl thing, jimi hendrix did the same thing on "A Happening For Lulu", a live show on the BBC in january 1969.
He was supposed to play voodoo child (slight return), which he did. Then Lulu spoke about how the jimi hendrix experience won Billboard's group of the year award, and introduced "Hey Joe".
Here's where it went haywire. For over a year, Hendrix had been playing a long elaborate intro to the song, or sometimes an intro made of lots of noise. The show runners didnt know anything about it.
Finally when the song became recognizable, the band played about half of the first verse, then hendrix played a short solo, and immediately after, they stopped playing, the hendrix says:
"We're going to stop playing this rubbish and dedicate a song to The Cream" and launched into an instrumental of Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love".
This caused the show to run over into the evening news.
The jimi hendrix experience was banned from the BBC for life, the official reason was "Arrogance".
You can find the video of it on youtube, its worth a watch.

Tara Browne was a man. Please do your research. Here is the real story:
Tara Browne must be one of the few people who is more famous for dying than he ever was in life. In December 1966, a Lotus Elan driven at speed by Browne crashed into another car in South Kensington. Two hours later, he died of his injuries, aged just 21.
A few weeks afterwards, John Lennon - who had known Browne slightly, but never much liked him - read a report of Browne’s death in the Daily Mail. Sitting at his piano with the whisper of a melody going round in his head, Lennon began to write a song about ‘A lucky man who made the grade . . . He blew his mind out in a car / He didn’t notice that the lights had changed’

The BBC banned an instrumental called Nut Rocker for a while because of regulations regarding interpolation of classical music (it’s a rock’n’ roll instrumental version of the Nutcracker.

The BBC had no option when it came to the Lola lyric. They have a constitution which bans them from advertising, in any way, anything. Even their own publication, the Radio Times (shows how old it is. It is a TV & radio guide) couldn't be advertised on the BBC without them stating that "other magazines are available".
A lot of the apparent bans by the BBC lasted next to no time, and mostly were the "fault" of one person overreacting. More often than not, they'd be on the radio on the pirate stations, or later on the independent radio stations, and so the ban rarely lasted more than a week or two. Regarding Sailing, there's a good chance that someone in government was behind that. It was Thatcher's time after all.

It never fails to amuse me that the idiots who ban things don't get that the ban itself makes the banned song or book or whatever even more popular. If they had kept their mouths shut it wouldn't have been a big deal.

10:31 I remember D.A.R.E., we used to make pledges for the program!
D.A.R.E. has caught a lot of flack over the years, but my peers and myself are drug free and the government didn't have to use enormous amounts of public resources to protect us from drugs, we just said "no."

I never for one split, half of a second thought My Generation was the least bit of a sleight to those who stutter. I didn't know it was an homage to another musician. I thought it was just the style he sang for that particular song. To me, that's just silly to even think that. But it was the BBC, right? So....
