Most people wouldn't take the time to do this 'darning'. The older generation would throw the garment away and buy new, and the younger generation would wear it as is, 'holes and all'. Your 🎶 selection topped it off and was gratifying. Nice job!
It depends on the generation, and the economic level of the person involved. I am 50. Unless the mending is unnoticeable, I wouldn't use the garment outside home. I have the habit of using old clothes at home, and better clothes to go out. Clothes with noticeable mending would be used at home, if appropriate for it; and another of these kind, if I have enough, would go to the new step in processing: rags to clean or to mend, or, if there are possibilities of recycling into something else, I would do something else. I have a problem only with footwear. I am very delicate with my feet, and mending would be less of a possibility, and the bin, much more. But this is luxury for some people, I know, and I try to buy only what I need. Not that I feel that it is my obligation, but I remember things, and try to be conscientious.

If I 6 patch it with a pretty patch or embroid it with my machine, it goes to my husband, where it becomes a rag in his workshop. He is always grateful for it. Old towels become floor rags in my house as do drying cloths(tea towels), and garments in a good condition will either be gifted or I will try to make something out of it. I can't get it over my heart to just chuck it in the bin.

Oh my gosh you're amazing! This is the exact video I needed to instruct me on fixing holes in clothes and my cover. My needlework is not nearly as elegant as yours but I hope to get better with more practice. Sadly no sewing classes growing up and my mom & nana never sewed. Really appreciate the great details! Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing your talent! I watched every second and loved how you repair on the showing part, I was taught to sew underneath and then when you get done, you turn it inside out and 'look to see what you did to the front' and after watching you sew---the way I was taught seems mighty dumb! I am anxious to tackle my sewing pile now! Thanks!

My mother has a 10x15 foot bedroom as a wardrobe and shoe and accessories closet.... She always looks like a fashion model. I have no idea where she got her talents from. Certainly not her parents (my maternal grandparents). She didn't graduate from high school because she got pregnant and in the 1950s that was a dream killer. I swear she's more talented than Martha Stewart, Joanna Gaines and Rembrandt and Tiffany combined because there is literally nothing she can't do or make ALL by herself. I've sat and watched her and attempted to do 1/10th of what she does in a day/evening and it exhausts me... and she's 82!!! God bless her. A nice way to show this generation not to waste or throw away good things, but to re-use... like previous generations did. Things that are in good conditions can be repaired, they are not garbage. We need to do a favor to the environment. I like this video. 👍

Higher quality clothing brands USED TO also attach by plastic hang tag a lil zip bag that included a extra button or thread sample or even a material spot. I guess some still do but its very rare now.
Right. What I had always thought was that that little strip of cloth was for repairing purposes, until I saw a video from a tv programme in which it was stated that it is enclosed for testing cleaning products on it without accidentallt spoiling the whole garment. I do not know what to believe. Anyways, these have been lifesavers at home very often.
@@CruzSanchezRipa The washing instructions are usually placed with the garment size/made in tag inside the garment.

@@CruzSanchezRipa
The washing instructions are usually placed with the garment size/made in tag inside the garment. I guess you could say it was for either purpose but I always used it for mending or stain repairs.
I really think people would keep clothing longer or UP cycle it to Goodwill/2nd hand stores if manufacturers still would do this. Best wishes 🙏
@@PoM-MoM Yes, but some of these higher quality garments, ask for very gentle products which don't clean stubborn stains, and also some products for stains ask you to test in some hidden area of the garment to clean.
