- I know that this video it titled "How to" but this is more of a "How I' type of video. Obviously, there is not only one way to catch a fish. This is just how I've been doing it.
We've spent the last month on the Texas coast. After a week or so of catching reds and black drum, I set my sights on sheepshead and pretty quickly figured out a technique that works pretty well.

This is sick! My first salt fish on fly was a sheepshead and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since!
Dude it was so much fun fishing with you amigo! I have to admit, when we went out and I saw the indicator I was extremely hesitant but after almost immediately hooking up there is NO arguing that it works. Had a blast and can’t believe I quadrupled the amount of sheepies I’ve ever caught in a matter of a few days. Hope we get to fish again soon dude.
Dude! That’s so awesome. I love multispecies in general and I focused on multispecies on fly this year. I managed to get 100 species on fly this year and I WISH one of them had been a sheepshead, but you’ve given me a leg up for nest year.
Thanks!
Cool video! I have never heard of Sheepshead before, and it was awesome to see what they look like, and also to learn some of their habits. No surprise that you found another fish that loves the PJ's marabou jig 😄
😁 I had to watch again.
You have an awesome ability to teach, & to catch fish!!!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! Skills!
I appreciate how well you explain everything! You make it simple, with your logic & technique.
🏆 Awesomeness!
Sincerely.🦈
Thanks man! Please let me know how it works for you. My only experience with this is on the Texas coast. But I imagine it should work out pretty much anywhere there are sheepshead. So let me know!
And I drew that piece of art myself. But I do really appreciate Eric’s work
Heck yeah! This looks like a blast.. high wind float fishing!
I just got a place in San Leon, TX purposely. I've very loosely looked for something there since 2019. The fishing is so good, join me here sometime and let's slay fish on a pier or my boat. Yes I want a tattoo(s) the fish are plentiful, November is coming and Flounder abundant. DO THIS...
Thanks for the tip.
Man you freaking rule
🌴 this is information to use in my fly fishing knowledge, as I didn’t even think about trying for sheepies in rough water next to a sea wall ,I thought like you before that sheepshead were hard to catch on a fly rod , but the ones I have heard that were caught were on a crab fly pattern next to docks or mangroves, as for the cutoffs ya oysters and barnacles are like razor blades , I’ll be looking for olive jigs or I’ll be tying some up in an olive shrimp pattern ! 👍🏼👊🏼, Is that sheepie in the thumb nail an Eric Estrada clip art ? It’s bad azz !
I actually drew that one myself.
And thank you! Please let me know how if works for you. I’ve o my done this on the Texas coast, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work everywhere for them
Drew look up Eric Estrada on you tube, he’s a fly fisherman/ artist , your artwork is really similar, he’s fishes a lot with a 5wt rod set up , getting peacock bass, tarpon ,and bone fish , sure would like to see some more artwork being done on your channel, nice job! 👍🏼👊🏼
Awesome!
Cool video, thanks for sharing Drew!
How far down from your indicator was the jig?
Cheers!
Usually 24-36 inches depending on where I’m fishing. I’ve fished a couple spots i had to drop it about 48 inches down.
