I’ve wondered for 20 years why no one has done this. Especially Caterpillar. Their heavy equipment runs diesel electric. Same with trains locomotives. One of the biggest advantages of a constant rpm engine is you could tune it so that the emissions are very low even without an emissions package.
Go and read the history of LeTourne theyre tried and tested a lot of those way back it’s unfortunate there was no UA-cam Facebook or tiktok to publicize it.
Those of us who work in the Diesel Electric world have been waiting for Edison to arrive. Since the 1920's Trains & ships have had diesel engines powering DC generators that provide power for DC drive motors. DC evolved into AC systems and we now see the addition of batteries. I'm sure many other truck (and car) manufacturers are closely watching Edison. I wouldn't be surprised if he receives a call from Elon Musk someday.
Dave these guys are genius👍👍👍 I think that’s the future. No stupid charging stations that we don’t have. I love the office shelf part idea. I think these guys have something that’s gonna turn into something big in my opinion.👍👍👍
Congratulations to Edison motors as they've said in some of their presentations they've done what the other companies didn't take the time or put in the effort to do. You would think that any of the trucking companies or automobile companies currently in operation would have gone down this path to be able to convert their current vehicles to electricity and hang on to their dealerships and their maintenance work instead of trying to go into something they know nothing about building an electric car from the ground up the crew at Edison have done a fantastic job and I can't wait till their product becomes available for truck conversions for smaller trucks pickup trucks and vans and RVs.
No doubt that the concept is great. Hybrids are the answer to both range and lowered emissions. And as explained, the torque and HP delivered to the contact surface between the tire and road, is insane. Even at 0 rpm, electric motors produce the same torque as when running.
John - It was great watching this video just now. I met you about a year ago when we talked about the bullshit around Sleep Apnea and CDL requirements. I have not met Chace yet, but his shop in Merritt, B.C. is across Coldwater Road from one of my best friends who is a log builder. I am headed up to see my buddy John Boys and his wife and I'm going to get Chace aside long enough to share some ideas I have that would be a good fit with some of the other product development that he is doing that is separate from the trucks. I also have more ideas for equipment that I will need in Sweden for a project I have in the works there. Good to see you again. Tell Catherine I said, "Hello."
Great idea but with trucks like that you have to haul less weight, because those electric trucks are heavy or change regulations in the nation to increase the amount of weight you can haul with those trucks.
Hey Edison! If the Canadian bureaucracy or even/especially the US gets inevitably ridiculous consider moving to Mexico! Stats on this gotta be somewhere ‘cause there MANY former Canadian businessmen operating in Mexico! Big Tex trailers comes to mind for one!!!!
Or making it like a train where you just deliver power directly to the electric motor from the generator where you always have the generator on that’s even more efficient than battery’s
People will say Tesla semi looks bad. I don't think his truck wins any shows for looks. Its definitely not Kenworth W900 or a Peterbilt 379. The technology in the trucks is hands down. This is where I can kind of blame the big manufacturers for dropping the ball and being completely behind the curve. Elon is always pushing over the curve achieving the impossible. Realistically this tech should have been in trucks ten years ago. But they keep us trying to fight DPF and emissions lawsuits which frankly is huge setbacks for trucking. Looks are subjective. Build the trucks lets see them everywhere.
This truck is built much, much heavier duty than a cascadia, it is designed for heavy off highway work, rather than lighter duty on highway driving. It has thicker framerails than a standard truck will have.
My 579 weighs close to 28k bobtail. Trashcadias are throw away trucks that are ran for 3/400k, sold and get another maybe 200k and it goes to the scrap yard. Even my pete is a throw away and might last 750k, but itll need a rebuild between 550k/600k. The edison truck is designed for off highway/heavy haul, not to be a pavement princess. I haul bulk cryo and would love a Edison with a 60" sleeper
Every major class 8 truck maker is going electric. Edison Motors, as its own guy describes it, is at this point a Rube Goldberg contraption. By the time Edison has anything close to a marketable truck, Tesla, Freightliner, PACCAR, etc.will own the market.
HEY THERE DRIVER. Thanks for dropping by to catch today's upload. What are your thoughts on the Edison Motors trucks? Love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks for having us on.
seeing the difference in video quality makes me realize I really need to get a better studio setup for these interviews haha

Not exactly genius to fabricate a diesel locomotive on a truck frame. It's been an idea for decades at least.
Damn about time someone who understands real engineering
As a follower of Edison motors...I've been waiting for this moment here on SmartTrucking .
More than expected!
I wish the tour happened. That would be another EXCELLENT video. R.I.P. Dave, you are sorely missed. I will be thinking of you on the backhaul.

Best interview with Chace that I have seen to date!
Love that truck, I would buy one
We need to codify laws stating auxiliary generators can't be held to emissions requirements.
Can you buy stock in Edison motors yet?
Just shows it takes more than a billionaire to make an electric truck. It takes a real trucker to get it right.
very interesting
Snapping king pins 😂

Cool video. Love the channel
I would love to see this offered with the option of a 2 stroke Detroit!
The Union Pacific railroad didn't have too much luck with their diesel electric battery hybrid locomotive. I hope you the best in your endeavor.
Hybrid vehicles and hydrogen powered vehicles is best, but there is a place for electric vehicles, just shouldn't be forced.
Electronic motors and wiring along with winter Maintenance on roads is just what we need after d e f.

That's the way to go but one problem. The rail road bought the patent and runs that setup in the trains. So may have a patent issue.
Or making it like a train where you just deliver power directly to the electric motor from the generator where you always have the generator on that’s even more efficient than battery’s
he is now putting a Scania motors in the trucks
Testing like they do at Boeing
Hybrid is the way to go, imo
Not zero emissions but lower certainly.

I bet tesla is pissed and elon will make up some bs on why you need his truck over this unit
Just like a train engine except for the batteries
Im only about 40 minutes to an hr from Georgetown
How is 28k lbs a reasonable weight when a cascadia and trailer 32k lbs 😂
These aren't primarily highway trucks
This truck is built much, much heavier duty than a cascadia, it is designed for heavy off highway work, rather than lighter duty on highway driving. It has thicker framerails than a standard truck will have.
That's exactly why it hasn't been done before. It works for trains because they're not exactly weight limited. Also, that's 28k for a DAYCAB.

I really think the owner that posts videos etc talks A LOT and has a lot of fanboys but fanboys online don’t equate to sales.

all evs use batteries to power the wheels. redundant information doesn't enhance anyone's knowledge on anything
Testing like they do at Boeing Mack truck system is dead for a reason .
