Thank you again. Those slam doors take one back over 50 years. Great video.

    • @schoolshorts
      @schoolshorts  2 роки тому

Yes indeed - although these days those slam doors will be centrally locked by the guard. Fifty years ago they could be opened by the passengers - and frequently were long before the train actually came to a stop. There were no yellow lines at the platform edge at that time - every traveller knew the danger of being hit by a door on an incoming train, and stood well back!
Thanks for the comment and best wishes.

@@schoolshorts 👍🏻 If I remember correctly?.Often the leather window straps were difficult to pull, and/or the door frames very stiff, so that you could panic that you’d not be able to get the window down to open the brass outside handle!. Not really designed for the old, women, or weaker folk.
Unfortunately in those days the carriages were old, worn, dirty, and often cold in winter, the steam heating ineffective. Other than mainline expresses the locomotives themselves were often uncleared B.R. either short of manpower or deliberately choosing to save expenses.

Sadly it's becoming a rainbow-coloured Pullman lately - shame, because it used to look superb. Best wishes Brian.

Superb video Tim. I didn't plan to travel to Carlisle this weekend but it's disturbing to hear of more vandalism on the Tyne Valley line. Same two weeks ago which prevented me from travelling then. Nice drone images at the end. Cheers, Jeff.

Hi Jeff - one can only hope that the police can get to grips with the situation on the Tyne Valley line - two closures within a fortnight is seriously bad news. Best wishes.

Very entertaining day. I enjoyed the drone at the end beautifully scenic in the low sun. It's a shame the Blue Pullman HST was not a full set I saw somewhere they are paining another power car so they do not have to se an odd one, looks like they need a coach as well. Tangmere looked good as ever freely steaming as they do.

@@schoolshorts LOL. Yes knowing some people they would demand compensation if they got the green coach.

Wonderful day train spotting, glad to see that the drone seems to be working well. Really prefer the steam traffic but strangely enough enjoyed the freight traffic on this post, many thanks again. John K.

Great original filming Tim, as always, it may have been quiet for you, but where I live in comparison it looks very busy. I must say the new platform edges look good.

Thanks Mike - you can see where I live in the opening and closing sequences and in comparison Carlisle is always busy. It was however quiet by the usual standards of the old Citadel station. The whole station looks well these days, clean, well maintained - and welcoming.

I think going to Penrith was the best option because I saw tangmere it was a little late because it went on platform 3 to let a pendilino get past it then it gave a massive blow of the whistle and steam deflectors it was surprisingly crowded unusually in Penrith.

A superb days filming, wondering why the Northern Belle appeared to have sleeping cars in the consist - possibly for staff between trips? Platform staff/train dispatch wearing high heels - no longer safety critical?

Thanks Kevin. I had a chat with the young crew member featured at 10.36. Having come up from Darlington, he would return with the diesel to Hellifield to collect the stock hauled by Tangmere and take it on to Newcastle - then on to Scotland for tomorrow's extensive programme (a 15-hour day for him) so - yes - I imagine some sleeping accommodation is essential.

A lovely start and end to the day in Nithsdale and Carlisle being itself when steam is around.

love the guy in cream (14 minutes) not!! Some people are so selfish with no thoughts for others, the way he just wanders into shot

He was one of the lesser problems - you should see some of the clowns I had to edit out completely. Just part and parcel of the business of filming on a busy station, I'm afraid.
