I'm not sure I ever tire of listening to this song. I clearly remember their music being played in the clubs when it was new. Years later I still appreciate it. This video is unusual in that it shows more of Lee Harris. I always think he was (and could still be) camera shy. While Mark had the voice, Lee was the eye candy!
"It's my life" is 40 years old? Damn, guess I'm older than I think 🤔 not only do I LOVE new wave (real childhood nostalgia), but Talk Talk is one of my favorites since it came out, lol. Gen X forever! RIP Mark.
His terrestrial life has been paused at the moment but the life he's living now, that's for sure, it will never ends! We miss you Mark, R.I.P. Thank you very much for this video, Christian!
Thanks for doing this, I love Talk Talk and the sound of Mark Hollis’s voice. They really are the most underrated British band, their later albums are incredible but having said I can’t stop listening to ‘Tomorrows started’ at the moment. Wish someone would make a documentary about them.
I love this music. I am 44 this year... so just a bit too young to have appreciated them fully at the time (I'm either the youngest GenX or a geriatric millennial, I'm not quite sure!) but I remember my mum listening to them all the time and this brings back many warm memories. It's actually quite frustrating to have grown up surrounded by so much awesome music, but missing out on seeing it performed live. By the time I was old enough to go to festivals etc. the world had moved on and so had many of them... but hey, I didn't get to see Mozart either, it is what it is!
I would have KILLED to get THIS clean a picture on any of my old tv sets back in the day here in Canuckistan! Kudos Peri! *proceeds to consume multiple bowls of nostalgia flakes*
40 years I mean come on feels like yesterday, fantastic tune tho. Great little remaster as always looking forward to what you bring is next. Have a great weekend and take care 🙂
Fabulous post mate Its my Life is one of my all time 80s favorites and I still listen to it along with "Life is What You make" it and "Talk Talk". Those were great days in the early 80s well actually all80s .RIP Mark Hollis
@@RetroRecipes Mark Hollis was a true one of a kind. Totally committed to his musical vision but uniquely talented enough to carry off his vision. He only compromised once as Talk Talk in the 80's when their label wanted them to be a generic 80's new romantic type band. They did it for a while for Mirror man & the self titled single but Hollis soon rebelled & that was it, the Talk Talk we all love & then his evolutionary solo work.
I had completely forgotten about this song and when it played a gush of memories from the 80's came flooding back in the most haunting way. This is a very interesting AV remix, now with added elephant! 🙂Nice one, Perifractic.
I've been listening to this band since 1984 -- I was 14 -- this album was my first. There is no one like Talk Talk to me. They were one of the few bands that evolved their sound, each album better in some ways than the last. I was 16 when Colour of Spring came out -- well, the 12" for "Life's What You Make It" which included this incredible b-side called "It's Getting Late in the Evening" to me presaging Sprit of Eden's sounds a bit. I didn't like the "It's My Life" album when I first heard it -- but I had a friend that would play it around me constantly. I found myself singing a song in my head, loving it, then realizing that "it's Talk Talk!" I've gotta listen that album more. What an amazing album. The free-jazz trumpet solo from Henry Lowther on "Tomorrow Started" still blows my mind. Thanks for doing this, and it's nice to see you're a Talk Talk freak like me. :)
This song is soooo good. I first heard it on the radio at work in 1997. Not knowing who made it and the title i searched for the song a long time. For some reason i kept bumping into Simple minds - Dont you forget about me. It wasnt untill Gwenn Stefani released the remake that i finally found the original ❤
Oh! What an amazing song! I remember watching the video on Skytraxx with Pat Sharp (or, possibly the other bloke). Thank you for this very "live" remix!

Wow, pure nostalgia, right in the feels. Thanks for the detailed description, it shows your love and skills, and that it is much more than just slapping the audio and video together. Love it.
Solid gold. Induced chills. Never knew much about the band despite it being my generation but this and probably 4 other songs play on 1st Wave (satellite radio in the states) and for sure, defined our generations best music of this genre. Would love to see a retrospective of how you did this, perhaps a making of the making of. And thank you for the link to the multi-track download. Amazing that such a thing exists. (I grabbed my copy and will be firing up Logic Pro this weekend; it's sat idle for far too long).
This is awesome - I always loved Talk Talk and their short timespan. Brings back so many memories. Well done, I would never have known had I not read your documentation.
Mark Hollis really was a genius. And he had the artistic integrity to stop quite young when, I presume, he felt he had nothing left that he really wanted to say, which I really respect.
Great music and song live on forever in the memories and hearts of those touched by their enchanting notes. They bring solace, inspiration, and a timeless connection that enriches life's journey. This music resonates within us, may we always find comfort in these timeless tunes that echo in our souls.
Excellent work doing a recreation of the performance that never was... AI is amazing. I do recall this song from the 80's... underrated yes! Bravo to everyone involved! I'm playing the linked video, and it's lower in pitch like you said... I think it's better higher... and that's the way I remember it too... I guess that makes me biased?
Thank you. It's not so much spending the money as losing it... A video like this is put out solely for love and all revenue goes to the songwriters/publishers (automatically by UA-cam), but technically it doesn't cost me anything other than time (and lost ad revenue compared to a normal video), but it's well worth it!
Wow, didn't even know Mark died.. 😢 dunno how I missed that one. They were really unique. People used to say to me that it sounded so depressing, but to me it was really uplifting, especially when I was very down, I would listen to them and feel a whole lot better, energized and back, hanging in there with the tools to take on the world. Somehow there's something very comforting in their music, giving you a sense that you're not alone in feeling this way.
I seem to recall his family never made a statement as to how, so he might have been just sick - it was 2016 if my memory is correct and he was just 63. A little older than I expected.
A great track, one that I always liked, although only one of two tracks by them that I know. Whilst not as good, I also like the cover version by No Doubt. I guess the greatness is in the song itself, not just the artists performing it. 🙂
I just watched the original video from the show Popcorn in 1984; the introduction by the presenter sounds a lot like Channel 9 from The Fast Show 😊 Kries Woddol...sausage factory!
3:55 sounds like a Thank you Bremen which means the audio is from a concert or TV show recorded in Bremen , a city in Germany I bet, cause usually the british bands were touring first through western germany and Berlin like depeche mode, U2, Spandau Ballet and so many more due to domestic TV coverage and the british garisons. We had here the biggest british garrison outside the UK and lots of professional soldiers, drinking a lot, awfull lot, but next morning back on duty. I guess this has been recorded in the Radio Bremen Studios which a small TV studio cause it is a rather small town, only famous for its Rockmusic.
@@RetroRecipes they said thank you very much but on the train with a laptop I was sure it would be Bremen cause back then they had a big show for all the british bands coming to west germany for gigs there and for the Royal Army in the big garisson as entertaining acts for the soldiers from time to time which made touring for them a lot easier when they were not famous yet. With the earphones it was far easier than on a Samsung Galaxy Book with downfacing speakers. thanks
I really enjoyed this, I liked the original song but always felt the vocals were quite low in the mix. Fantastic band. Memories growing up in the 80s listening to KROQ here in SoCal.
Well im 49. I remembered this song like it was yesterday. Brings back a few good memories .😊
Classic 80s Music - Glad I grew up ( debatable !! ) around 80s music - well done

Fantastic song. The 80's the best decade of music. Released a year before I would have started high school.
