Thanks! I wiped everything down with rubbing alcohol when applying the seal. I was considering latches to hold it closed, but I don't think it's necessary.
I put latches on the charcoal chamber. Mine was leaking smoke all around the door even after I put a gasket on it. With the latches it locks down tight. I also put wired sensors that send me the temps of the chamber and the meat so I don’t have to open the door.
Nice! I looked at the latches, but mine seals pretty well. I have a wired sensor that connects to my phone via Bluetooth and I can monitor it that way. Which latches do you recommend?
Hey Man, did you put that gasket on all 4 points? the sides and the top? Whenever I put that same stuff on mine, I couldn't get the lid to close. Not sure if I was doing something wrong?
@@MrTinMan34 I've been doing this all summer, so about 5 months now. I even had some paint come off underneath the firebox where it got too hot and I still don't have any rust there.
If the wife doesn’t like the taste of smoke....time for a new one lol. I just rebuilt one of these and it is hard to fire up without using matches(I’m obviously referring to the gas side) the igniters are blasting away but it won’t light. Any ideas?
Sounds like lack of Oxygen. Try it again, but gently blow down around the igniter while striking it. Is it a blue flame when lit or more of a long yellow flame?
Congratulations! That gasket was a great purchase and it is still on there. I am surprised how well it has held up. I also recommend a cover and using it diligently. Good luck and happy grilling!
@@RoadandReel Yeah, because i'm not diligent I'm going to try to have it under a permanent cover or roll it into the garage. I saw your one year review and it still looks great and the seals held up. My wife just got a griddle and is not diligent with the cover either, ha ha, so I will have a pop up cover over it all the time as well.

Just watced hour BBQ video's. Thank you for the tip about the sealing, will do that too. Just got my Oklahoma Joe over from.the USA in the Netherlands
Wow, that's awesome! I hope you enjoy it!
Very smart adding the seal to the door, just ordered through your link. hope I get the results you did. Thanks for that Tip. Thumbs up just for that.

thank you thank you thank you. i never would have guessed that was a match holder...
My dad worked in the propane business for over 20 years and carried one for lighting water heaters and stoves. I'm glad it helped!

@@RoadandReel I installed the LavaLock latches for the Longhorn. It took less than 10 mins.

Yeah, I put it all around. It took it about a week to lay flat again, but the stuff I used is only 1/8" thick. That brand in the link is really good.
Big help with that rust trick!! Thanks!!
I'm glad it helped!
How long have you had this grill and done that trick?

I just picked one up and so looking forward to using it. Exciting to hear you say you love it! I may have to invest in some of that gasket.

@@JoshWeaverRC I think that's a great plan. Good luck on your first cook and congratulations, again!
how do I increase temperature in the charcoal chamber? Does the damper in the offset smoker work as intake?
Yes, that's exactly right. The damper increases the burn and the smoke stack regulates the smoke.
what was the sealer? dont see the link =/
This is the one I used. amzn.to/3ICtIHk I'll add it to the description.
the smoking chamber is small enough that I wouldn't even worry about that small amount of smoke coming out
True.
I just got one for Father's day there is a black wire thing with silver tips things in it what's that for in with the manual book doesn't tell you
Is that the striker? There's a push button striker on the front with wires to each burner to light it.
@@RoadandReel yes the wire for the side burner igniter thank you for responding back have a great Blessed happy Father's day weekend
Can you do a winter review?
Sure thing 👍 I'll record it this weekend and get it out sometime next week.
The new review video is up on my channel
I should have spent the extra dough, & got this one. I cheaped out & got the Highland. :(
How is the highland different? Is it just quality or are they a different design?
@@RoadandReel its just the smoker, but it does leak ALOT of smoke. I bought the seal tape & it still leaks smoke alot
