I actually really liked this. I watched all of it. I usually don't like TAS, but I really appreciate you putting in the silly comments and extra pointless shootings to be an entertainer rather than just a showoff.
The nature of TAS is to be a showoff. That's where the entertainment comes from lol. Still, you're right about him doing a really good job of making it more entertaining than most TAS. This is still my favorite TAS video to this day.
@@PastelPiku yeah, anyways there's that kind of TASes that are literally showoffs, "playaround" i think they are called Btw mind linking your pfp? I like it
To whoever posted about the 4th ending being a possible TAS goal: sorry, I accidentally deleted your message. (Clicked the wrong link, UA-cam didn't ask for confirmation and I can't undelete it because this site is horrible.) But in any case, the infamous 4th ending is a mod. The video describing it as being real was an elaborate April Fools joke. It's a very well constructed mod, though.
There should be some "Let's TAS" channel where they make commentary TAS like this. I love how this dude explain why he does this and that when most TAS-er don't
"I wish Quote could carry more dogs at once." Wish granted, that's now in the Switch version! Also, you can skip cutscenes to make them go faster, making the Switch version the definitive Cave Story experience.
That was a really good move on the part of the person who made the April Fools joke, because it instantly rebutted everybody who actually took the time to try (and found it to be fake). It's called "moving the goalposts". Since 17 minutes is almost impossibly difficult, virtually undoable without TAS tools, no one could test it anymore. Even the SDA speedrunners, literally the world's best gamers, were about 6 minutes too late. So the 17 minutes thing was just a trick, and it worked really well.
Thank you. I kept seeing people saying they like the commentary and it says commentary in the title but I didn't hear or see any text so I thought the poster took out the commentary.
Awesome and fun to watch. I always admire the amount of work and skill that is put into TASes like these, and the author's comments were a nice bonus. When even the creator of the game is impressed, you know you did a good job!
The movement with both the Machine Gun and Booster is like watching an elegant choreography, it almost makes me wish the Booster 2.0 was unlocked sooner to see how you could've glided through earlier sections of the game.
At 13:50 the player switches to the rocket launcher at the last second to make it look like Quote just blew the door down with his gun. Wonderful touches that make this playthrough awesome!
This is one of my all time favourite TAS videos (other favourites being Super Mario 64 "0 star" and Super Mario World "96 exits") and also one of my all time favourite games so it makes me really happy that this was the first ever TAS of a windows game at tasvideos
I had no idea what this game was. I dont understand a letter of japanese/kanji but your comentaries made it just as entertaining as a MMX TAS, a game which i love and know inside and out. I wish more TAS players used it to describe the tricks they use, otherwise its easy to mistake damage taken for randomness when in fact it is extremely calculated. Thanks!
They're probably talking about the Mimiga mask ending (which is a separate achievement in the Steam version). It's not the ending you're talking about, that one's definitely a mod. A very cool one for sure, but TAS runs are generally only made from original, unmodified versions of the game. See x.co-wA24 and x.co-wA2C (replace - with /) for more information.
It goes one further than slow motion, the game is paused and they play the game frame by frame and imput commands on the frames that are needed accordingly for the 'perfect play'. They also use savestates to overwrite any mistakes, anywhere, at anytime.
I think my favorite part of this by far would have to be the fifth dog. Like Quote just shows up at this frail old lady’s house, sees that she’s been beaten to a pulp, steals her dog, and runs off in a murderous rampage
The interesting thing I've found about the soundtracks (Original vs. Remastered) is that people who started with the original game prefer the normal mixes whereas those who started on the 3DS, on Steam (post-remastered-OST patch) or by just hearing just the music (e.g via YT) prefer Remastered. They're both great, and differ substantially in some regards, so to each their own. I guess the one thing fans of each -can- agree on, however, is their distaste for (most of?) the Remixed soundtrack...
It really is astounding just to what level this person has mastered the game. Even if I got to a really good level where I could easily beat the game without dying, the author of this would still be on an entirely different level.
