you’ll never be the beauty standard because you aren’t white. the beauty standard was only meant for white women and no matter how hard woc/black women try they’ll never live up to that. once you realize you’ll never fit into it you’ll be a lot happier. i’m a lot happier knowing that i’m my own center of beauty and that i don’t fit inside the norm.

As a black girl, this song brought back painful memories of being told I don’t like black girls because they are loud and ghetto and I don’t like dark skin girls. Often it was black men who told me this. I had to question every man I dated even my own race if they liked black girls. I was also bullied in school for being black and darker skin. I remember wishing I was lighter skin with straight hair and light eyes so that I would be treated better. 😓
